Transocean Awarded $222 Million Drillship Contract

Offshore drilling contractor Transocean announced it has been awarded a $222 million contract for one of its ultra-deepwater drillships to go to work offshore India.India's state-controlled Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd awarded the binding notification of award for Transocean's Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1, a sixth-generation drillship built in 2009 by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries.The 21-month program is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2024, contributing an estimated $222 million in backlog…

NYK, Pertamina Ink Energy Transport MOU

As demand for energy transportation, especially liquefied natural gas (LNG), is expected to increase in Indonesia, NYK and PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), a wholly owned subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero) agreed to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for energy transportation.The framework of the deal sees Pertamina, the largest oil and natural gas corporation in the state, and NYK in a strategic partners in energy transportation and covers ownership and management.

Asia: Pertamina, Petronas Join Forces

Indonesian state-owned energy company PT Pertamina and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) of Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop oil and gas business – upstream and downstream, not only in Indonesia or Malaysia but also in other countries.As per MoU, Pertamina will swap crude produced in its Malaysian fields of Kikeh, Kimanis and Kidurong with crude from Petronas' Indonesian fields of Jabung and Ketapang, said a Reuters report quoting Pertamina sources.Meanwhile, Pertamina,  Jakarta-based state-owned oil and natural gas corporation, said in a statement that the two companies have also agreed to explore crude processing investment in East Asia and in other continents…

Foresight Takes Delivery of New Jackup Drilling Rig

London-based international law firm Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) advised Foresight Group of Dubai on the delivery arrangements relating to a LeTourneau Super 116E jackup drilling rig named “VIVEKANAND 3”.The rig was constructed in China by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry Dalian Shipyard (“Cosco Dalian”) and is one of three jackup rigs constructed, delivered and employed over the last three years; a great achievement given the current challenges faced by the offshore drilling market.VIVEKANAND 3 will be deployed on charter to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (“ADNOC”) and is the last of the three rigs built for Foresight by Cosco Dalian.

Search for ONGC Offshore Helicopter Crew Continues

The Indian Navy has widened its search operations for the missing crew members of the Pawan Hans helicopter  (C/s VT-PWA) which crashed off the Mumbai coast on Saturday. The helicopter with seven people on-board, including five Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) officers and two pilots, crashed off the Mumbai coast minutes after it took off for the state-owned company’s oil installation in the Arabian sea on Saturday. According to NDTV report, on the third day of search in the high seas, the rescuers located the last remaining body - of the missing pilot. Earlier the rescue teams of Indian Navy and the Coast Guard had recovered six bodies on Saturday, including the five ONGC deputy general managers who perished and one of the pilots. However, this is not officially confirmed.

Kreuz Subsea Wins 5-vessel Contract in India

Subsea services provider Kreuz Subsea said it has been awarded a contract to deliver subsea completion work for Indian multi-national conglomerate, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) from the start of 2018. The contract, worth an undisclosed eight-figure sum, will see Kreuz Subsea support L&T to install all riser clamps, risers, crossing works, tie-ins, subsea trenching and hydro-testing of pipelines which are part of the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation’s (ONGC) Pipeline Replacement Project (PRP4) and Daman Field development projects off the west coast of India.

L&T Bags Offshore Contract from ONGC

L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, has signed an offshore contract for ‘Bassein Development 3 Well Platform & Pipeline Project’ with Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Larsen and Toubro stated in a stock exchange announcement that the contract is valued at approximately 1,483 crores (approximately 229 Million USD). The order, won against International Competitive Bidding, encompasses ‘EPCIC’ – Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning - for the project. The EPCIC scope of the project includes three new wellhead platforms, 23- kilometer subsea pipeline, composite subsea power cable, clamp-on works on an existing platform and modification work on nine existing platforms in the western offshore basin in India.

Swan, EXMAR Partner for India’s First FSRU Terminal

EXMAR has entered into a binding Term Sheet with Swan Energy Limited for the joint development and operation of the Jafrabad LNG Port project, to be located in the State of Gujarat, India. The Jafrabad LNG Port will be a 5 million tons per annum (MTPA) LNG receiving terminal, with one jetty-moored Floating, Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). The two partners have the firm intention to expand the terminal to 10 MTPA, through the deployment of a second FSRU. Swan secured all necessary permitting for the project and the concession agreement is ready for execution.

India's Oil Exploration near South China Sea Irks China

The state-run China Daily says that India's plans to conduct oil exploration off Vietnam coast in the South China Sea is "illegal and is an "unwise move" that may "sabotage" positive momentum in ties. "India's intention to once again explore for oil in the disputed waters of the South China Sea is an unwise move, as it will further complicate the maritime disputes and do a disservice to maintaining the positive momentum that has been achieved in China-India ties," the China Daily said in an editorial. Titled 'India should rethink its oil exploration plans', the editorial said according to reports India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation plans to restart exploration activities in the waters off Vietnam's coastline which are "also claimed by China".

Lamprell Delivers Jackup Rig to Greatship

Lamprell announced it has completed construction on jackup drilling rig Greatdrill Chaaru, delivering the rig to Greatship Global Energy Services Pte. Ltd. Greatdrill Chaaru has been designed according to the LeTourneau Super 116E (Enhanced) Class design. The rig’s construction was undertaken on a fast-track basis, completed 18 months after initial steel cutting. The naming ceremony was held at Lamprell’s Hamriyah facility in the UAE on February 9. Lamprell said Greatdrill Chaaru is due to sail to its drilling location in India within the next few days, joining its sister vessel, the Greatdrill Chaaya, which Lamprell delivered in January 2013. Both rigs are contracted to work for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) in the offshore Indian territorial waters.

The Lamprell Group delivers its 12th Super 116E jackup drilling unit. Lamprell has announced the completion of construction on the jackup rig Jindal Pioneer and its delivery to Dev Drilling Pte Ltd of Singapore, a D. P. Jindal Group Company. The contract for the Jindal Pioneer rig was signed in January 2013 and this is the second rig with the LeTourneau Super 116E (Enhanced) Class design which Lamprell has delivered to this client. Keppel Wins $120m in Offshore Contracts

Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd's (Keppel O&M) subsidiaries Keppel Shipyard Ltd (Keppel Shipyard) and Keppel Nantong Shipyard Co. Ltd (Keppel Nantong) won five contracts worth about $120m in total. Indian Board to Review Offshore Vessel Deal

The Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Board is expected to take up a proposal to place orders with the Netherland's IHC Offshore & Marine BV for a well stimulation vessel for about $244 million against the company's budget estimate of $150 million. The reservations over the contract stem from the fact that IHC Offshore & Marine was the only bidder that was technically qualified and it quoted a price of $254 million for the vessel, or nearly 70% higher than ONGC's estimate, reports 'The Times of India'. Sources indicated to the newspaper that the proposal may not find an easy passage in the board, with a section of the management holding the opinion that the contract should be retendered to avoid vigilance complaints. Arabian Sea Contract for Technip Consortium

Technip, in a consortium with Afcons and TH Heavy Engineering, awarded offshore India contract. The contract, worth in total about 50-million Euros, awarded by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC), is for the Heera Redevelopment (HRD) process platform project in the Arabian Sea, approximately 70 km South-West of Mumbai, India. Installation of a new bridge connecting the existing HRC process platform, the strengthening of the existing bridge and the modification on an existing HRC process platform to ensure interconnections between all the process lines and the utilities. Technip’s operating center in Mumbai, India will execute the overall engineering and procurement of tagged equipment of the project.

Keppel Shipyard Secures S$142 Million Contracts

Keppel Shipyard Ltd (Keppel Shipyard) has secured three conversion contracts worth a total of S$142 million. These conversion contracts are to convert a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Carrier to a Floating Storage Unit (FSU), a VLCC tanker to a Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) unit as well as a tanker to a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit. Mr Nelson Yeo, Managing Director of Keppel Shipyard, said, "We are glad to have the trust and confidence of the global industry for a range of conversion projects. Working closely with our customers, we will continue to enhance and extend our capabilities, and ensure safe and high quality deliveries." The first contract is for the fast-track conversion of the LNG carrier Tenaga Empat into a FSU for Malaysian customer MISC Berhad.

Wärtsilä Ship Design Contract for 12 Vessels

Wärtsilä, ship power system integrator, has signed a ship design contract with Pipavav Shipyard of India. The contract calls for a total of 12 Offshore Supply Vessels (OSVs) to be designed by Wärtsilä and built by Pipavav, for delivery to ONGC - Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd, which is the largest oil and gas producer in India. Keppel FELS Delivers Rigs Early

Keppel FELS Ltd (Keppel FELS) has delivered two rigs safely, ahead of schedule and within budget to owners. The KFELS B Class jackup rig, Greatdrill Chitra, was delivered to India’s Greatship Global Energy Services Pte Ltd (Greatship) 12 days ahead of schedule, earning Keppel FELS a bonus of S$300,000. Keppel FELS also delivered Gold Star, the world’s first DSS 38 deepwater semisubmersible drilling rig, to Brazilian operator, Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás (QGOG), six days early. Both rigs are well on-track for their maiden deployments.

Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 5-Year Contract

Transocean Ltd. (NYSE:RIG) announced that the ultra-deepwater drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 has commenced operations in India under a five-year drilling contract with Reliance Industries Limited. The company currently expects that Reliance will sublet the rig for the first four years of the contract to Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited, and that Reliance will operate the rig for the fifth year of the contract. The Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 is the first of two ultra-deepwater newbuild drillships owned by a joint venture company with Pacific Drilling Limited and scheduled to commence operations in 2009 and 2010. The second ultra-deepwater newbuild drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2 is also contracted and is scheduled to commence operations in 2010.

SCI to Acquire Offshore Vessels

Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), is planning to acquire 10 offshore support vessels (OSVs), DNA reported. An internal study report said the company is mulling the acquisition of 10 anchor handling and tug supply (AHTS) vessels of various sizes.
