ABS & Vietnam Register Sign Joint Cooperation Agreement

ABS has signed an expanded agreement of cooperation with Vietnam Register (VR) covering the provision of a wide range of classification and statutory certification services. Christopher J Wiernicki, ABS President and Nguyen Van Ban, General Director of Vietnam Register signed the agreement at ABS’s Corporate Headquarters in Houston on Monday 14 May. The two societies had been operating under a more limited cooperative agreement, originally signed in 1994 and subsequently amended in 1999. Panama certified to inspect VN ships

Panama’s Isthmus Bureau of Shipping (IBS) has been authorized to inspect and grant certificates for Vietnamese flag-carrying liners operating offshore from Central and South America, under a mandate signed in Mexico earlier this week. Viet Nam Registry Director Nguyen Van Ban said the mandate for the IBS, would facilitate the navigation of Vietnamese ships in the region.

Panama Signs up Vietnam to Inspect its Ships

The Vietnam Register (VR) and the Panamanian Isthmus Bureau of Shipping (IBS) have signed an agreement under which Vietnam will check Panamanian ships in waters near its territory. The agreement to check if the ships follow international maritime regulations was signed in Hanoi Tuesday. VR Director Nguyen Van Ban said a similar deal would be inked in Panama in April allowing IBS to inspect vessels flying Vietnamese flag while in Central and South American waters.
