Mercury Marine Opens New Global Distribution Center in Indiana

Mercury Marine opened its new, purpose-built distribution center to support its parts and accessories business. The new 512,000 square foot facility is located near Indianapolis, Ind., a major thoroughfare connecting Mercury’s global customers that will improve delivery and service and will add much needed capacity for scale, stability, and reduced logistics costs, the company said.Mercury’s current distribution facility at its global headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wis., will be repurposed to support its propulsion systems…

ABS Opens New Headquarters

PSA, ONE Launch Container Terminal in Singapore

Wilhelmsen Ship Management Goes to Southampton

Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) adds another ship management office in Southampton, England, to increase their global footprint in the region. “Southampton is a city with one of the longest histories in the maritime industry. It has an established maritime cluster of infrastructure and human resources that we can tap into immediately to support growth,” said Carl Schou, President of WSM. ASA hosts Response Training for Houston Authorities

More than 40 U.S. Coast Guard, State of Texas, maritime industry and local emergency responders attended the American Salvage Association’s (ASA) Marine Salvage and Emergency Response training course last month in the Houston-Galveston area presented by the ASA Training Committee. Port of Long Beach Welcomes ONE

For three Japanese ocean carriers combining their shipping container business into ONE, the future is bright and it comes in magenta. The future arrives this April. ONE stands for Ocean Network Express, a joint venture of “K” Line, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and NYK Line that consolidates the three companies’ container shipping units into a single, integrated company. Volvo Penta Names Kelleher VP Customer Support, Training

Volvo Penta of the Americas announced the appointment of Tony Kelleher as vice president for customer support and training. Kelleher will be responsible to support both marine and industrial segments within the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Kelleher was previously director of the marine leisure segment with responsibility for OEM and dealer sales and partnership development for North America. He has also served as head of the service department and purchasing director within Volvo Penta of the Americas.

Wilhelmsen Relocates to Singapore

Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) will be relocating its global headquarters from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Singapore within the first quarter of 2018. The relocation decision is part of WSM’s strategic initiatives to be nearer to current clients and also future market. Singapore is an established maritime hub, and a driver of digital innovation that will play a significant part in the company’s ongoing transformation. At the moment, only a few selected key personnel in the management team will be relocated. Kuala Lumpur will continue to be an important location where shared services and back office functions will remain operating to serve the global fleet.

Jeremy Nixon is CEO of ONE Ocean Network

The management of the new company,  Ocean Network Express Holdings (ONE) -  the joint venture between three Japanese shipowning societies Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ("K" Linens), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) was unveiled. The existing NYK Line chief executive Jeremy Nixon named as the chief executive of ONE. Nixon has been chief executive of NYK’s liner division since 2012, and moved to Singapore two years before that to head its South Asia operation. COSCO Shares Climb After OOIL Bid

COSCO Shipping Holdings Co Ltd saw its stock climb on Monday after bidding $6.3 billion for a Hong Kong peer, a deal that would see it become the world's third-biggest container shipper and underline China's supply-chain ambitions. The offer for Orient Overseas International Ltd (OOIL) comes as China's government pushes to raise the country's profile in global shipping, which dovetails with its Belt and Road initiative aimed at increasing China's influence over distribution from Asia to Europe. Beijing merged two shippers last year to form COSCO Shipping which, after the latest deal, will rise from fourth to rank only behind Denmark's Maersk Line and Switzerland's Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC).

Faststream Opens New Global Headquarters

KotugSmit, MOL Team up for Smart Operations

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (container, tanker, dry-bulk and car carrier divisions) and KOTUG SMIT TOWAGE (KotugSmit) signed long term towage agreements, effective early 2017. The two have agreed upon a long term towage contract for the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp, Ghent, Terneuzen, Flushing, Bremerhaven, Hamburg, London and Southampton. ABS Breaks Ground on New Houston HQ

ABS has broken ground on its new global headquarters. Anchoring the CityPlace 2 development, the new headquarters will be located near the intersection of I-45 and the Grand Parkway in the Houston area. “This is an important milestone in our 155-year-young history and reaffirms our commitment to Houston,” said ABS Chairman, President and CEO Christopher J. Caterpillar mulls Global Headquarters in Chicago

Caterpillar Inc. announced today it will locate a limited group of senior executives and support functions in the Chicago area later this year and reaffirmed the ongoing importance of its presence in Peoria and Central Illinois. “Caterpillar’s Board of Directors has been discussing the benefits of a more accessible, strategic location for some time,” said Caterpillar CEO Jim Umpleby. “Since 2012, about two-thirds of Caterpillar’s sales and revenues have come from outside the United States. “We value our deep roots in Central Illinois, and Peoria will continue to be our hometown. The vast majority of our people will remain in this important region where we have many essential facilities and functions,” added Umpleby.

Mercury Marine Expands Manufacturing Capacity

Mercury Marine is adding a 53,000 square foot manufacturing capacity expansion to its global headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wisc. The expansion will consist of 45,000 square feet of manufacturing capacity and an additional 8,000 square feet of office space. In addition, Mercury is investing in state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment to better streamline the manufacturing process and meet the growing demands in the marketplace. The new space will be completed in January, 2017. “This is an exciting time for Mercury Marine,” said John Pfeifer, Mercury Marine president.

ACE Winches hosted a delegation from SPRING Singapore to its Towie Barclay Works facility for a visit to share an overview of its products and services, including manufacturing and engineering expertise. Several delegates from the Marine and Offshore Department in SPRING Singapore were welcomed to ACE Winches global headquarters by key personnel during their visit to Northeast Scotland. SPRING Singapore is a statutory board under the Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, responsible for helping Singapore enterprises grow.

According to Jukka-Pekka Mäkinen, President and CEO of The Switch, the primary motivation behind the location change is to be located in the center of Helsinki, making meetings with partners, clients and suppliers more convenient. Mäkinen called the new office an investment in the company's future, adding that The Switch has plans for further expansion.
