The Man Behind the 'Jones Act'

Senator Wesley Livsey Jones gave his name to the famous “Jones Act” governing U.S. domestic maritime trade. But what do really know about him? Holland America Line Appoints Geivett as Director, Social Media

Holland America Line has hired Kathryn Geivett as director, social media. In this capacity Geivett’s primary responsibility will be to drive, plan and oversee the execution of strategic social media and digital initiatives for the cruise line. She will report to Mary Beth Wressell, vice president, marketing communications, for Holland America Line. “Social media is an important way we communicate with our fans, and we’re thrilled to have someone of Kathy’s caliber join the company to oversee all of our different engagement channels,” said Wressell. Geivett has more than 12 years of marketing and advertising experience with an emphasis on digital and social media. Prior to joining Holland America Line she was at Microsoft Corp.

The Transportation Club of Tacoma (TCT), the largest Transportation Club Chapter in North America, has chosen Terry Thomas, president and one of the founders of his company PNW Equipment Inc., as their 'Person of the Year 2013'. TCT explain in a brief biography that Terry Thomas, founded his company, PNW Equipment Inc. in 1980, and it has since then become a recognized leader in the design, manufacture, sales and leasing of maritime and intermodal equipment throughout the Pacific Northwest and the Pacific Maritime region which includes Western Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii.

Seaspan Welcomes Brian Carter

Brian Carter is joining Seaspan Shipyards as President, assuming this role full-time beginning January 9, 2012. In this role, Brian is responsible for delivering the long-term strategic plans of Seaspan’s three shipyard operations (Vancouver Drydock, Vancouver Shipyards and Victoria Shipyards). In addition to working with Seaspan’s senior management team at both the corporate and shipyard level, one of Brian’s key areas of focus will be aligning the shipyard group for long-term success under the new $8 billion Federal Fleet Renewal Program.

Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Inc. (TOTE) announced the promotion of John D. Parrott to company president. Parrott replaces TOTE’s former president, Bill Deaver, who had been with the company since March 2002. John initially worked for TOTE beginning in1992 as First Officer of the S.S. Northern Lights. Crowley Announces Management Team for Petroleum Services Group

Crowley Maritime Corporation announces the appointment of Bruce Barto to vice president and general manager of its newly formed Petroleum Services group based in Seattle. Barto has profit and loss responsibility for Petroleum Services and reports directly to Tom Crowley Jr., chairman, president and CEO of Crowley Maritime Corporation. Reporting to Barto are Bruce Harland who has been promoted to director, operations and will be relocating from Houston to Seattle; Jim Dwight, sales manager, Alaska; Royal Harris, manager, pricing; Chris Dugan, sales manager, oil transportation; and Hugh Stepaniuk who has been promoted to director, finance.

Grune To Lead Crowley Ship Assist and Escort Services Group

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced the appointment of Robe Grune to the position of Vice President and General Manager of Crowley's newly formed ship Assist and Escort Services based in Seattle. Harland Promoted to VP at Crowley

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that Bruce Harland has been promoted to vice president of the company's West Coast, Alaska and international contract services. He will remain in Seattle and continue to report to John Douglass, senior vice president and general manager of Crowley's marine services group. Harland, who most recently served as general manager of West Coast, Alaska and international contract services, will now have profit and loss responsibilities for the business as part of the upgrade in the position. His group provides a myriad of services to customers, including energy logistics, remote offshore drilling support, ocean towing and transportation, and energy support services, including all-terrain transportation of cargo and personnel on the North Slope of Alaska.

Wren Joins EBDG

Reginald Wren has joined Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) as a senior mechanical engineer. Wren, a licensed Professional Engineer, holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington and a Masters of Business Administration from Seattle University. A well-known player in the marine industry, Wren brings over 27 years of experience to the firm. Prior to joining the staff at EBDG, he was the Principal Engineer and Owner of WRENgineering Ltd. Wren is already busy working on the MV Columbia repower for the Alaska Marine Highway System.
