Grand Bahama Shipyard Continues Relationship with PC Maritime Services

Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBS) informs its exclusive agency agreement in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg will continue, as PC Maritime Services’ new owner, Hilka Willms, takes the helm.    Upon the retirement of Hans Stoop, his successor Willms will maintain the continuity of GBS representation in BeNeLux.   Willms’ experience on both sides of the ship repair business started with a decade-long career at a ship repair yard in the Netherlands, followed by ship repair yard representation experience.

PC Maritime Earns DNV-GL Certification

DNV-GL has issued an official certificate for PC Maritime’s Navmaster ECDIS after the company passed all the tests. Navmaster ECDIS is up-to-date against all current standards including the new IEC 61174 Edt. 4 and the IHO Presentation Library Edt 4.0. This means PC Maritime’s ECDIS will meet carriage requirements from August 31, 2017 when the IHO withdraws support for version 3.4 of its Presentation Library. Existing ECDIS must be updated by then to meet carriage requirements. PC Maritime said it will offer upgrades to its customers to ensure that they are compliant in time to meet the August 2017 deadline.

PC Maritime ECDIS for 39 OSG Tankers

PC Maritime has secured a contract to supply, install and commission dual Navmaster ECDIS on 39 tankers owned by Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) and managed by V.Ships UK. The contract is to be completed and all crew trained and certified by the end of 2016. To have this number of vessels fully equipped by the end of 2016 requires installation not only during dry docking periods but also within OSG’s trading schedules. Internet Option Added to ECDIS Type Training

PC Maritime added internet delivery to Navmaster ECDIS type-specific training which now covers all bases:  onboard ship, ashore in training centers and via internet. V. Ships had identified situations where a crew member joins ship at short notice and urgently requires ECDIS training & certification to comply with ISM Code requirements. The Navmaster course is normally provided on two DVDs containing the training material and the formal assessment. The DVDs can be used by any number of crew during a 12-month period and the process does not require internet access/ satcomm time, only email.

ECDIS for 28 More Vessels in Caspian Fleet

PC Maritime and its Estonian trading partner Marine Technics have won a contract to supply Navmaster ECDIS to 28 Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ACSC) vessels.   The order follows the operation of Navmaster ECDIS on 13 ACSC vessels over the past three years. The initial supply is for single ECDIS with 24-inch displays, with an option to extend to dual ECDIS, and Jeppesen Primar charts and updating services. The systems will be installed and supported locally by Marine Technics’ office in Baku.

PC Maritime ECDIS Enhanced for Revised VDR Standards

PC Maritime have upgraded their ECDIS so that it meets the requirements of the new VDR Performance Standard (MSC.333 (90) which came into force on July 1, 2014. From July 1, 2014 VDR installations must include the ability to capture ECDIS screenshots at least every 15 seconds, record the charts in use at least every 10 minutes and record all changes of chart. IMCO Purchases NAUTIS ECDIS

A classroom of NAUTIS Desktop Trainers and a NAUTIS Instructor Station was purchased by the International Maritime College Oman (IMCO). The simulators allow the IMCO to add certified ECDIS Model course 1.27 training to its curriculum. The classroom was delivered and installed by VSTEP engineers at the IMCO premises in Sohar, Oman. IMCO purchased twelve NAUTIS Desktop trainer units and a NAUTIS Instructor Station to provide the complete range of ECDIS Model Course training for its students.

Optimized Voyage Planning in PC Maritime ECDIS

PC Maritime’s Navmaster ECDIS is able to combine with MeteoGroup’s SPOS weather routing service to provide optimized voyage planning. Navigating officers can create a route in Navmaster and load it into SPOS for optimization. Weather limits, speed profile, bunker profile, voyage speed, fixed ETA, track types and delays are all taken into account and, with this information, the route can be quickly adjusted. The route is then transferred back to Navmaster ECDIS and rechecked for safe navigation. The Master can choose how often his route is optimized.

NAUTIS Simulators Introduce Interface to PC Maritime ECDIS

VSTEP and PC Maritime have jointly developed a software interface which they say makes high quality, yet affordable ECDIS and radar training possible. Following its radar video interface with the Kelvin Hughes and MARIS ECDIS, VSTEP’s NAUTIS bridge simulators now also connect to PC Maritime’s Navmaster ECDIS to provide training colleges with a DNV-approved generic ECDIS training installation. The VSTEP/PC Maritime bridge simulators can be provided as software only to run on standard PCs, or with hardware consoles up to Full Mission Bridge Simulators. The range is designed for nautical colleges and company training centers in compliance with the latest STCW requirements.

PC Maritime to Install ECDIS in 50-vessel China Shipping Deal

PC Maritime’s ECDIS has been fitted to newbuild Shen Hua 521 as part of a 50-vessel contract with China Shipping Group.

PC Maritime’s Navmaster ECDIS has been chosen by China Shipping Group to be fitted to 50 newbuild bulk carriers. This large ECDIS fleet contract was negotiated by Bogerd Martin NV’s subsidiary company, Bogerd Martin China, based in Shanghai. The vessels vary in size between 46,000 dwt and 76,000 dwt. Ten vessels already have single Navmaster ECDIS installed and the remaining 40 bulk carriers are to be equipped during the next 12 months. Later on, China Shipping Group intends to fit a second ECDIS onboard in order to go paperless. U.K.

Bourbon Chooses PC Maritime ECDIS

Bourbon Evolution 802 is the first of nine newbuild vessels being fitted with PC Maritime’s dual ECDIS.

PC Maritime’s Navmaster ECDIS has been ordered for Bourbon’s latest generation IMR (Inspection, Maintenance and Repair) vessels being built in Zheijiang shipyard, China. Four dual Navmaster ECDIS have been supplied, with a further five Bourbon Evolution 800 to be equipped this year and in 2014. Operating a fleet of 458 vessels, Bourbon is a major player in the offshore marine services market. The first vessel equipped, Bourbon Evolution 802, is operating off the coast of Nigeria and reports good satisfaction levels with the Navmaster ECDIS.

400 Officers Certified in Navmaster ECDIS

While staying on board ship and continuing with their duties, over 400 navigating officers have earned formal certification in Navmaster ECDIS. The training course launched by PC Maritime nearly a year ago meets STCW requirements and standards set out by the Nautical Institute for ECDIS familiarization. Available on standalone DVD, the PC Maritime package uses text, voiceover and video and requires users to carry out actions just as they would on Navmaster ECDIS. Questions have to be answered at the end of each section. Time involved should be around eight hours.

Bourbon Choose PC Maritime ECDIS

PC Maritime’s Navmaster ECDIS ordered for Bourbon’s latest generation IMR (Inspection, Maintenance & Repair) vessels. The new ships are beign built in Zheijiang shipyard, China. Four dual Navmaster ECDIS 800 have been supplied, with a further five vessels to be equipped this year and in 2014. The first vessel to be fully operational, Bourbon Evolution 802, reports good satisfaction levels with the Navmaster ECDIS. Her crew are using PC Maritime’s familiarisation training course onboard to achieve Type-specific certification, and three officers are already formally certified. A second vessel is now on sea trials. PC Maritime are also supplying Bourbon with single ECDIS for their newbuild platform supply vessels, the Bourbon Liberty 300 series.

Navmaster ECDIS Training CD Released

The PC Maritime Navmaster ECDIS CD Rom allows ships' officers to complete familiarisation training onboard.

PC Maritime has announced that its Navmaster ECDIS type-specific training CD Rom is now available. Believed to be the first manufacturer to provide a stand-alone type-specific training CD Rom, PC Maritime has taken the view that the required training should be made as convenient as possible to the customer. As Anne Edmonds, PC Maritime’s Marketing Director, explains: “One Navmaster ECDIS type training CD Rom onboard can be used by any number of ship’s officers, as and when their time permits. Internet access is not required, although we will later add a web-based version for shore use.

PC Maritime, Shipowners Can Control Costs

With freight rates in the doldrums and many vessels laid up, shipowners worldwide are looking to reduce expenditure. However, mandatory installation of ECDIS is being phased in from 2012 on board newbuildings and from 2014 on board existing ships. Anne Edmonds, PC Maritime’s marketing director says the company is exploring ways in which it can provide its customers with more convenient, cost-effective ways of carrying out the required ECDIS Type Training. “One solution now under development is a CBT (Computer Based Training) program.

Navmaster ECDIS Recieves Type Approval

PC Maritime announced that its Navmaster ECDIS has completed the Type Approval process related to the latest ECDIS regulations. The approval programme was conducted under the supervision of Det Norske Veritas (DNV). Eleven-Ship Contract Placed by EuroShip

Euroship Services has ordered 11 Navmaster PC-based ECDIS to be installed throughout the Cobelfret fleet of Ro-Ros. The contract was awarded to PC Maritime, developers of Navmaster, after extensive competitive trials of 5 systems over a six-month period. Navmaster was selected for its clarity and ease of use, backed by PC Maritime's high quality service and responsiveness to customer requests. The EuroShip contract includes installation and training delivered by PC Maritime staff onboard each of the eleven ships. Seven are already operating with Navmaster, and the remaining four installations will be completed in October.

PC Maritime Offers Engineering Training Products

A new suite of engineering training products from PC Maritime has been developed to meet STCW 95 Sections A-1/12 and B-1/12 and ISM Code Sections six and eight. The PC-based products are designed to deliver effective training at low cost and provide tools to assess and document the competence of personnel. Engine Room CBT Upgraded

Engine Room CBT, a set of computer based training software for marine engineers from PC Maritime, has been enhanced with the addition of three new modules. Engine Room CBT provides a combination of simulator and multimedia training on a wide variety of engine room plant and machinery. The revised version now consists of a library of 28 individual training modules, which cover extensively the subject of marine power plant equipment.The three new modules are: Marine air-conditioning system, EcoStream oily water separation and Basics of hydraulics. Navmaster ECDIS Gets GL Type Approval

PC Maritime, a member of the Charente Group, has received Type Approval from Germanischer Lloyd (GL) for its Navmaster ECDIS. The GL Approval is in addition to the existing DNV Approval and was achieved in collaboration with PC Maritime’s agents Veinland GmbH and Lilley & Gillie. Veinland GmbH was founded in 2006 by Dipl Ing Gerald Rynkowski and Fred Ahrens and is located in Neuseddin, close to Berlin. Veinland’s business is involved in hardware and software for maritime and industrial markets and sees it undertake research, development, consultancy, maintenance and servicing of systems. This year, in just the company’s second year of operation, Veinland expanded into two exciting markets, with Veinland North America Inc in Boston, USA and Veinland Asia Ltd in Hong Kong being established.

Navmaster ECDIS Selected for SELEX and Viking Offshore

Lilley and Gillie, has been awarded a contract by SELEX Communications in Aberdeen, Scotland, to provide Navmaster ECDIS systems for installation on a series of new 1,500grt offshore support vessels now under construction in Spain for Viking Offshore Services Ltd, also of Aberdeen. Last year, Navmaster ECDIS, developed by PC Maritime, which is 50 percent owned by Lilley and Gillie, was awarded Type Approval by DNV, certifying that it complies with IMO A817 (19) and the latest edition of all associated specifications. Designated by Viking Offshore as Pan-European Field Support and Rescue Vessels’ nine new ships are being built by Astilleros Zamakona in Bilbao with the first ship due for delivery in December 2006 and the last of the nine in March 2009.
