Tugboat Master Appointed V-P by Crowley Solutions

Captain Alex Sweeney joins Crowley’s Solutions Group as Vice President, Project Operations. Sweeney, who most recently served as vice president of operations for Crowley’s petroleum distribution group in Alaska, will remain in Anchorage and report to Michael Johnson, vice president, project management. In his new role, Sweeney will be responsible for the planning, coordination and management of select solutions projects. He will also assist the solutions business development team in pursuing project opportunities.

Crowley Petroleum Distribution Restructures

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that it has restructured its petroleum distribution and contract services group, consolidating all Alaska operations under Craig Tornga, vice president. Tornga, who will remain in Anchorage and will continue reporting to Rocky Smith, senior vice president and general manager, will continue to manage Alaska's petroleum distribution and fuel sales but will now also manage tanker assist and escort services in Valdez and Prince William Sound, Alaska, and energy support services on Alaska's North Slope.

Sweeney Promoted to VP of Far East Operations at Crowley

Effective March 1, 2004, Alex Sweeney will assume the position of Vice President of Russian Far East Operations. In his new position, Sweeney is responsible for the management of the BETS Sealift to Lunskoye, Sakhalin Island and the tow of the Orlan from Sov Govan, Russia to Ulsan, Korea. He will report directly to Steve Peterson, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Energy and Marine Services and will work closely with Chris Peterson, General Manager, Contract Services, who has commercial responsibility for those contracts. Sweeney joined Crowley in 1980 and has over 20 years experience in marine operations for Crowley on the east and west coasts.

Crowley Promotes Sweeney

Crowley Maritime Corporation promoted Alex Sweeney to vice president and general manager of its energy and marine services business unit. Sweeney will live in Seattle and report to Chairman, President and CEO Tom Crowley Jr. He replaces Steve Peterson, who is leaving the company. Sweeney will be responsible for all aspects of Crowley's specialized services provided to companies engaged in the exploration, production and distribution of oil and gas. Areas of operation extend from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to the Russian Far East to Africa.

Tornga Awarded the 2001 Thomas Crowley Trophy

Craig Tornga, general manager of oil industry services for Crowley Marine Services in Alaska, was awarded the 2001 Thomas Crowley Trophy, Crowley Maritime Corporation's highest honor, at ceremonies held last week in Seattle. Tornga, based in Anchorage, is a member of Crowley's Energy and Marine Services group, which is part of the corporation's Contract Services segment. Created more than a decade ago, the Thomas Crowley Trophy award honors employees with outstanding performance, whose dedication, leadership, initiative and productivity most clearly reflect those of the company's founder. The trophy, a limited edition, bronze sculpture depicting young Thomas Crowley as he ferried goods to and from ships on San Francisco Bay in the early 1890s…

Crowley Promotes Sweeney; Gleason Joins As Director

Crowley Marine Services has promoted Alex Sweeney to vice president, Valdez Business Unit. Sweeney is responsible for all marine activities in support of the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company's Ship Escort Response Vessel System (SERVS) in Alaska. SERVS' mission is to prevent oil spills by assisting tankers in safe navigation through Prince William Sound and to protect the environment by providing rapid and effective response services. Sweeney and his staff and crews are helping SERVS meet this critical mission in the harsh environment of Prince William Sound by operating the most technically advanced fleet of escort vessels in the world. Sweeney joined Crowley in 1980 and has more than 20 years experience in marine operations for Crowley on the east and west coasts.

Crowley Names Sweeney as VP of Safety and Health

As part of its focus on safety, Crowley Maritime Corporation announced today that Alex Sweeney has been named vice president of safety and health. Sweeney will relocate from Seattle to Anchorage and will report to Charlie Nalen, vice president, environmental, safety and quality assurance (ESQA). In his new position, Sweeney will continue to promote and develop the safety culture of Crowley's west coast operations including the company's extensive footprint in the Alaska marine and petroleum services industry. Sweeney joined Crowley in 1980 and has over 25 years experience in marine operations for Crowley on the east and west coasts. In 1995 he was promoted to director of Atlantic operations and in 1999 was relocated to Valdez and promoted to general manager, Valdez services.
