Gumbs to take the Helm of Bosch Rexroth North America

Greg Gumbs will be the new President and CEO of Bosch Rexroth North America when Paul Cooke retires on December 1, 2020.

Paul Cooke, President and CEO of Bosch Rexroth North America, based in Charlotte, NC, USA, will retire on December 31, 2020 after 38 years of service in various international positions within Bosch Rexroth. His successor as of December 1, 2020 will be Greg Gumbs, most recently Vice President & General Manager Electrical Automation Solutions at EATON Corporation. Gumbs will join Bosch Rexroth effective September 1, 2020 in preparation for his future responsibility and will be based at Bosch Rexroth North American headquarters in Charlotte…

WWII Museum’s PT-305 Sails Again

Commercial workboat philanthropy on display on PT-305: WWII Museum’s PT-305 sails again after a far reaching donor-funded restoration. In March, the National WWII Museum in New Orleans launched its reconstructed PT-305, built locally by Higgins Industries in 1943. The museum acquired the boat known as the USS Sudden Jerk in 2007, restoration began in 2009, and it now sails Lake Pontchartrain as an interactive exhibit. PT-305, with a fifteen-man crew, belonged to a 12-ship squadron operating in the Mediterranean from 1944 until the war ended in 1945.

ABB, the power and automation technology group, is realigning responsibilities in its Group Executive Committee (EC) to put a strong focus on acquisition integration and the significantly expanded North American business portfolio with the new appointment. Under these changes, Greg Scheu, who is currently responsible for Marketing and Customer Solutions (MC) on the EC, will lead the Group’s acquisition integration efforts and take over responsibility for North America including the United States, ABB’s largest geographical market.

Intelligent Software Agents for Machinery Diagnostics

Machinery plant maintenance represents a major expense for ship operators. In addition to normal maintenance expenditures, unexpected breakdowns have a significant cost impact. Recognizing the importance of preventing equipment failures, companies continue to adopt automation for machinery monitoring at a rapid pace. Continual improvements in the price/performance ratio of automation systems have also fueled their increased use in shipboard machinery plant monitoring. As a result, more ships with automated machinery plants exist today than ever before. However, just as a typical Internet search can easily create "information overload", so too can process automation create a "data overload" situation for the engineering crews responsible for equipment operation and maintenance.

Royal Navy Grants Northrop Grumman Contracts

Northrop Grumman won a $15 million contract to supply six ship sets of machinery control and monitoring systems for the U.K.'s Type 45 "D" Class destroyer for the Royal Navy. The contract, awarded by BAE SYSTEMS Electronics, the Type 45 prime contractor, calls for Northrop Grumman to develop and deliver six platform management systems (PMS) for the Type 45 ships. The contract also includes options for life-cycle support, including maintenance, repair, spares management, equipment upgrades and training. The PMS is a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) system that provides machinery control and surveillance for the ships' main engines, auxiliaries and other systems, as well as damage surveillance and control functions.
