Macron Announces Anchor Handler Sale

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington announced the private sale of a 2010 built, dynamic positioning, firefighting, anchor handling tug supply vessel. The Conan Wu Design (now part of Wärtsilä Ship Design), 55.0m x 13.8m x 5.5m depth vessel is classed ABS A1 Towing Vessel, AH, Fire Fighting Vessel Class 1, Offshore Support Vessel, AMS, DPS-1, Unrestricted Service. Malaysia Keeps on Building

In spite of the global economic downturn of 2010, builders in Eastern Malaysia such as Shin Yang Shipyard maintained a steady output in 2010. As a member of the Shin Yang Group of Companies, the shipyard has extensive support and in some cases can market to its own sister companies. The anchor handling tug Danem 19 was launched from the Shin Yang Shipyard for the Shin Yang Shipping Corporation as one of several vessels added to the fleet in 2010. At 164 ft by 41 ft the 4400 HP Danum 119 is a handy sized AHT with lots of versatility.

Petra Joins Owner’s Galaxy

The Petra Galaxy, designed by Conan Wu and Asscoiates, is the latest vessel to join the fleet of Perdana Venus Ltd. of the Marshall Islands. The 75-by-20m maintenance/work vessel has approximately 700 sq. m. of open deck space with an intended capacity of five tons per sq. m. for a total deadweight of 3475.56 tons, of which 400 tons could be deck cargo with the vessel drawing 5.2 meters of draft. Classed by ABS as a + A1 +AMS Offshore Vessel, the Petra Galaxy includes air-conditioned accommodation for up 189 people as well as a hospital, conference room, recreation room and five offices.

Petra Galaxy Joins Perdana Venus Fleet

The Petra Galaxy, designed by Conan Wu and Associates, is the latest vessel to join the fleet of Perdana Venus Ltd. of the Marshall Islands. The 246 ft by 65.5 ft maintenance/work vessel has approximately 7,535 sq ft of open deck space and a total deadweight of 3,475.5 tonnes of which 400 tons could be deck cargo with the vessel drawing 17 ft of draft. Classed by ABS as a + A1 +AMS Offshore Vessel the Petra Galaxy includes air-conditioned accommodation for up 189 people as well as a hospital, conference room, recreation room and five offices.

Wärtsilä Combines Ship Design Units

– In a move to solidify its course as a complete ship system supplier, Wärtsilä at Norshipping in announced that it will combine all its ship design units into a single entity, to be known as Wärtsilä Ship Design. The units involved in this reorganization include the recently acquired naval architect companies Vik-Sandvik of Norway, Conan Wu & Associates (CWA) of Singapore, and SCHIFFKO of Germany, as well as the company's conceptual ship design unit in Finland. "There will be close collaboration between our Ship Design unit, other parts of the Ship Power organization, and other Wärtsilä businesses. Our long term ambition is to create standard proven designs with predefined solutions, and to provide operational services with performance guarantees and fixed prices.

Wärtsilä Receives 1st CWA Design Order

Wärtsilä, power system integrator, has signed a design and propulsion system order with Taiwan's Jong Shyn Shipbuilding for a product chemical tanker. The 6500 dwt vessel, due for delivery in 2011, is for CPC Corporation (CPC), a Taiwanese state-owned oil company. This is the first order through the Wärtsilä network for a design developed by Conan Wu Associates (CWA), a Wärtsilä Ship Design company, since it was acquired in September 2008. Maintenance Work Boat from Shin Yang

The Malaysian firm Ajang Shipping recently took delivery of a versatile maintenance workboat from the Shin Yang Shipyard in Miri, Sarawak, East Malaysia. The 246 by 65.5 ft Ajang Haidah has a moulded depth of 31.3 ft with a 16.5 ft design draft. Designed by Conan Wu & Associates of Singapore the new vessel is powered by a pair of 16-cylinder Cummins KTA50-M2 main engines each developing 1800 BHP at 1900 RPM. The engines turn fixed pitch four-blade 2100 by 1512 m/m propellers through Reintjes WAF664 gears with ratios of 5.044:1. This gives the vessel a speed of eleven knots.

Sarawak to Netherlands

A Dutch owner has taken delivery of the Venture G, the second in a pair of sisterships from the Sealink Shipyard in Miri, Sarawak, East Malaysia. Like the first vessel, the Mare Verde, the second vessel, the Venture G is 53.8 by 13.8-meters with a molded depth of 4.5 meters. Designed by Conan Wu and Associates of Singapore the vessel has an engine room mounted well aft with large tankage capacity forward. The bunker tankage includes 913 cubic meters of IFO 380, 220 cubic meters of MDO and 208 cubic meters of fresh water.

Anchor Handling Tug from East Malaysia

After delivery to Singaporean owner, Briggs Singapore Pte. Ltd., the 1700 hp tug Forth Hunter will be be put to work in Ukraine. Powered by a pair of Cummins KTA38-M2 engines, each delivering 1350 hp at 1900 RPM (Heavy Duty Rating) to nozzled propellers, the tug underwent bollard test prior to delivery that recorded pulls up to 35-tonnes. The Scott & English Miri division supplied the engines. Designed by Conan Wu and Associates http://cwa.com.sg the 37 by 11.4-meter tug was launched at the Shin Yang Shipyard in Miri, Sarawak East Malaysia.

Sarawak Slipways: Building for Today’s Technology

Sarawak Slipways’ Executive Director for Production, Edward P. K. Chew, has 28 years in design and construction of new vessels since qualifying as a naval architect in the U.K. A good example of the sort of new vessel that meets that need for up-to-date technology is the ABS-classed 58-meter Offshore Utility Vessel on which the yard is beginning construction for Miri-based Bumi Armada Navigation Sdn. Bhd. With a 13.8-m beam and a 5.5-m molded depth, the vessel will have tankage for 500 cu. m. of ship’s fuel oil, an additional 800 cu. m. of cargo fuel oil as well as 300 cu. m. of fresh water. Accommodation for 40 men includes two single cabins for the captain and chief engineer and, five two-berth cabins, seven four berth cabins. Twelve of these berths are intended for the charterer’s use.

East Malaysia continues to be a world hot spot in meeting the strong demand for oil industry support vessels. As fleet operators and shipbuilders, Sealink Sdn. Bhd. plays a major role in this success. In early August 2007 they will deliver the sixth in their 48-meter series of utility/off-shore-supply vessels to their operations arm. As with the others in the series, the Sealink Vanessa 7 is built to a Conan Wu & Associates design at 48x11-meters with a molded depth of 3.5 meters. These vessels have port and starboard midship tankage for 295 cu. m. of fuel and 313 cu. m. water. Accommodation is provided for 24 crew members. The Cummins-powered vessels have a pair of Cummins 6CTA-powered 150 kW generators, a Cummins VTA28 DM powered fire fighting pump.

Shin Yang Builds Tanker/Landing Craft

At the end of March Shin Yang Shipping took delivery of an interesting new combination tanker and landing barge. Built at the company’s own yard to a design by Singapore’s Conan Wu and Associates (http://cwa.com.sg/ ). The 78x16-meter craft has a molded depth of 4.8 meters. Forward of the four-level deck house and beneath the ro-ro cargo deck, ten cargo tanks are arranged fore and aft in five port and starboard pairs. The tanks have a total volume of 1994 cubic meters. Named the Danum 23, the vessel’s primary role will be to transport methanol for use in making glue by the parent company, Shin Yang Sdn Bhd. (www.shinyang.com.my ), who are among the world’s largest plywood manufacturers.
