Norwegian Fish Farming Firm Eyes Green Hydrogen Use as Fuel for Its Ships

The Norwegian fish farming company Nova Sea and the well boat operating company North Salmon Services will collaborate with Gen2 Energy regarding the use of green hydrogen as a fuel for their ships.The parties have entered a Letter of Intent for exploring different opportunities for zero-emission vessels. ABB's Hybrid Power and Propulsion for Færøysund Live Fish Carrier

ABB will provide a hybrid power and propulsion solution with integral energy storage for the under-construction Færøysund live fish carrier.This will be the first live fish carrier to feature ABB hybrid power and propulsion solution with integral energy storage.The 77m-long diesel-electric vessel is being built at the Aas Mek. Verksted AS shipyard in Vestnes, Norway, for Nova Sea Service AS, one of Norway’s largest producers of Atlantic farmed salmon. Due delivery in September 2021, Færøysund is Aas Mek.

Polarcirkel Expands Design

Polarcirkel AS partnered with Nova Sea AS, Norway, to design and build a Cabin Workboat for transporting personnel out to fish farming feed barges, even in the harshest weather conditions. Designated the Polarcirkel 860 Cabin Workboat, MS Nova Polar is built to the standard 28 ft 3 inch Polarcirkel limit, with the 10 ft beam providing a great working deck and a huge cabin with lots of head room and all round visibility. Under the floor aft is a single Volvo Penta D6 series 5.5 liter diesel engine rated at 370 hp.
