Triton Builds upon Recently Launched Service

Triton Overseas Transport, a global non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC) and international freight service provider, today announced the recent launch of a less-than-container-load (LCL) export service from Houston to destinations throughout Central America and the north coast of South America. The newly launched service enhances Triton’s sailings to the growing trade regions and provides reliable, fast transportation at competitive rates to its international customer base. “Central and South America hold a large consumer base that relies on U.S. exports to meet much of their trade needs. Seated in the Gulf of Mexico, Triton is excited to open two previously underutilized LCL trade lanes to the region,” commented Sean Ratliff, sales associate at Triton Overseas Transportation.

President Bush signs Marine Highway Legislation

On Dec. 19, 2007, President George W. Bush signed into law the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which contains provisions establishing a formal marine highway program within the federal government. Under the new law, marine highway or "short sea" transportation refers to the carriage by vessel of cargo in containers, loaded on the vessel by cranes or by means of wheeled technology. Specifically, the new law requires the establishment of a program and the designation of transportation projects to mitigate landside congestion. The program will encourage the development and expansion of vessels, shippers, port and landside infrastructure, and marine transportation strategies by state and local governments.
