Mitsui OSK Signs Charter With New Russian Operator of Sakhalin-2 LNG project

Japan's Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) said on Wednesday it had signed a long-term charter contract with the new Russian operator of the Sakhalin-2 liquefied natural gas (LNG) project for LNG carrier Grand Mereya to continue its shipping service.Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree in June taking charge of the LNG project, creating a new legal entity to deal with buyers and shareholders. MOL's move comes after Japanese utilities, such as JERA and Tokyo Gas, signed deals with the new Russian operator to maintain long-term deliveries of LNG and Japanese trading houses Mitsui & Co and Mitsubishi Corp were approved by Russia to take a stake in the new operator.

Svitzer Gets 10-Year Contract Extension with Sakhalin Energy Investment

Svitzer, the towage operator that is part of Maersk, announced a 10-year extension of its marine service contract with Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd., a consortium set up to develop and manage the Sakhalin-II project, aimed at producing and exporting oil and liquefied gas.Svitzer has been providing towage services to the Sakhalin-II project since 2007, and the extension comes into effect in November 2022 to support the mooring of more than 1,800 gas carriers with a vessel fleet of four Robert Allen ice-breaking tugs and two mooring boats.

Gazprom, Kogas for Tighter LNG Cooperation

Gazprom, Mitsui Discuss LNG Cooperation

Gazprom, Mitsui Sign MOU on Baltic LNG Project

Russian energy giant Gazprom and Japanese Mitsui & Co. Ltd. have signed a memorandum of understanding at the Eastern Economic Forum on the liquefied natural gas plant project Baltic LNG.The memorandum was signed after the meeting between Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller and Mitsui Chairman of the Board of Directors Masami Iijima.The parties discussed the ongoing cooperation on the Sakhalin II project and the prospects for collaboration between the companies. Gazprom, Shell Discuss LNG Projects

A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Maarten Wetselaar, Member of the Executive Committee of Royal Dutch Shell, took place in St. Petersburg. The meeting addressed relevant aspects of strategic cooperation. Particular attention was paid to joint efforts in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector. The parties discussed the construction project for the third train of the LNG plant on Sakhalin Island and the progress of the Joint Study Framework Agreement for the Baltic LNG project. The meeting also focused on the Nord Stream 2 project. Gazprom and Shell are jointly engaged in the Sakhalin II project, which includes Russia's only active LNG plant. The Sakhalin II operator is Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd.

Ampelmann Produces Winterized Offshore Gangway

On April 14, 2016, offshore access solutions company Ampelmann and Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. signed an agreement to install and operate a winterized version of an Ampelmann’s motion compensated gangway system. This system will be capable of safely and efficiently transferring work crew up to -28 degrees Celsius, therefore supports Sakhalin Energy’s requirements to continue maintenance and increase offshore POB year round in the Sakhalin-2 field. The winterized Ampelmann, project name “Icemann”, will be installed on one of Sakhalin Energy’s new ice breaking support vessels of which delivery is due next year. Ampelmann will engineer and build this bespoke, unique in the world system for its launching customer Sakhalin Energy. The contract duration will be for 10 years.

Arctech Lays Keel for Icebreaking Offshore Vessel

Construction on the hull of an icebreaking multipurpose supply vessel for Sovcomflot began today at the Arctech Helsinki shipyard with a keel laying ceremony. The vessel is the first in a series of four icebreaking sister ships ordered by Sovcomflot, Russia’s largest shipping company. The vessel’s first block, which weighs 221 tons, was placed in the building dock, signaling the starting point of the hull assembly. The vessel, which will measure 100 meters in length and 21 meters in breadth, will be capable of breaking through ice even as thick as 1.5 meters and will be outfitted for emergency evacuation, rescue and fire fighting operations, oil spill response and platform support activities.

GC Rieber Shipping Earns Well

GC Rieber Shipping has more than doubled its net profit for the second quarter and recorded a year-on-year increase in profit on more vessels in operations and currency gains. However it has warned of a continued focus on shorter contracts in the future. In the second quarter of 2015, GC Rieber Shipping had a profit of NOK 103.4 million ($12.5 million), compared with a profit of NOK 43.5 million ($5.2 million) in the corresponding period in 2014. However, profit for the first half year was NOK 67.1 million ($8.1 million), compared with NOK 84.7 million ($10.2 million) in the first half of 2014. Grand Elena's Hundredth Voyage

The gas tanker Grand Elena, jointly owned by PAO Sovcomflot and the Japanese company NYK, has embarked on her hundredth voyage from the port of Prigorodnoye in Russia to Japan. The vessel is undertaking her latest shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on behalf of Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. The LNG carrier is chartered to Sakhalin Energy under a long-term time charter agreement and is operated along with two other vessels of the same series, Grand Aniva and the Grand Mereya, as part of the Sakhalin-2 project. Grand Elena was built in October 2007 at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. shipyard in Nagasaki, Japan. The gas tankers of this series have an ice class of 1С (Ice 2), which allows them to navigate in loose pack ice up to 40cm thick.

Production Begins on Sovcomflot’s New MPSV

The production of the icebreaking multipurpose supply vessel for Sovcomflot was started with steel cutting on November 26, 2014. The ceremony took place at Vyborg Shipyard, where the blocks of the vessel are produced. The production start was attended by representatives from Sovcomflot, United Shipbuilding Corporation, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, Vyborg Shipyard and Arctech Helsinki Shipyard. The design, hull assembly, outfitting and commissioning of the vessel will be done by Arctech Helsinki Shipyard. The main purpose of the vessel is to serve Sakhalin-2 region energy production sites by transporting supplies and people between land bases and the production platforms in the harsh climatic areas of the Sea of Okhotsk.

Sovcomflot Orders 3 Icebreaking Vessels from Arctech

Arctech Helsinki Shipyard signed a contract for building of three icebreaking stand-by vessels for Russia´s largest shipping company Sovcomflot. Vessels will be built for the North East Sakhalin Offshore region oil and gas field where they will serve the operator of Sakhalin-2, Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. (SEIC). The contract was made in May 2014 and the total value of the order is about USD 380 million. Designing of the icebreaking stand-by vessels will start immediately and the vessels will be delivered between September 2016 and March 2017. The series of the state-of-the-art icebreaking vessels for Sovcomflot includes also one bigger platform supply vessel, which was contracted between Arctech and Sovcomflot in April 2014.

The contract covers a 20 year term, during which the vessels will provide safe and reliable services for Sakhalin Energy’s platforms in the Sea of Okhotsk. The vessels will also assist with accommodation of the offshore facilities personnel. In an emergency, the vessels will help evacuate personnel from the offshore platforms and will provide oil spill response services when necessary.

Russian Partners Agree Icebreaking OSV Constructions

Sakhalin Energy and Sovcomflot (SCF) inform they have agreed to extend their co-operation having signed a number of agreements for construction and long-term operation of support vessels for the Sakhalin-2 project. SCF explain that the vessels will be used as year-round personnel carriers and also as supply vessela for offshore platforms in the Sea of Okhotsk. In case of emergency, they will be deployed for personnel evacuation and oil spill response. It is intended that Russian shipbuilders will play an active role in the construction of the new vessels: SCF has already signed a shipbuilding contract with Arctech (a joint venture between OAO United Shipbuilding Corporation and STX Finland) and structural components for the vessels will be produced in Russia at Vyborg Shipyard.

The companies have signed a number of agreements for construction and long-term operation of the vessels for Sakhalin-2 project. At an official ceremony in Moscow, Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. (Sakhalin Energy) and Sovcomflot Shelf (SCF Shelf) on behalf of Sovcomflot Group have signed a contract for the construction and long-term operation of the multifunctional icebreaking supply vessel for Sakhalin-2 offshore platforms. Operations under the contract will continue for 20 years. The vessel will be used as year round personnel carrier and also as supply vessel for offshore platforms in the Sea of Okhotsk. In case of emergency, the vessel will be deployed for personnel evacuation and oil spill response.

Russia Laying the Foundations for Arctic Exploration

Gas production in Russia could pave the way for successful arctic drilling projects after new techniques helped improve efficiency during the region’s harsh winters. The creation of Russia’s first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant has meant overcoming a number of obstacles similar to those faced within the Arctic region – an increasingly attractive prospect as proven oil and gas reserves decline. The success of the programme – which has seen the use of “big bore wells” cutting operating costs and increasing gas flow – is an example of how viable working in such harsh conditions can be.

Prisco Sells Six Tankers

Primorsk International Shipping Limited (Prisco) announced the en bloc sale by Prisco and purchase by OAO Sovcomflot (SCF) of six tanker vessels employed on the Sakhalin shuttle trades. The terms of the sales were not disclosed. Two of the vessels are time-chartered to Exxon Neftegas Limited (“ENL”) for Sakhalin -1 oil export operations. Both vessels will continue operations under current agreement with ENL. Three other vessels are on charter to Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd (Sakhalin Energy). The sixth vessel is fully equipped, designed and constructed for Sakhalin shuttle service and was formerly chartered to ENL. Primorsk to Build Gas Carrier

The Primorsk Shipping Corporation (PRISCO), as part of the MOL/K Line/PRISCO consortium, has started building a carrier vessel to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) to participate in the Sakhalin-2 project, the Corporation says. The construction was begun in December 2006. Under the schedule, the gas carrier is to start operating in April 2008. The vessel is being built at a dockyard of Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding in Chiba (Japan). In November 2004, the PRISCO, in cooperation with Japanese companies Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd (MOL) and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd (K Line) won the tender for the transportation of LNG. A contract covering a long-term time-charter of a gas carrier vessel was concluded between the MOL/K Line/PRISCO consortium and Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd…
