Krill Systems, which provides Vessel Fuel Measurement and Monitoring Systems (VFMMS), reports success in the installation and sea trial of Krill VFMMS systems on-board three support vessels operating as part of the Shell Alaska Arctic offshore drilling project. The VFMMS systems were installed in Seattle at the beginning of July, after which the vessels immediately departed for Alaska waters.
Two Shell-chartered drilling ships, Kulluk and Noble Discoverer, are heading to Dutch Harbor in Alaska’s Aleutian Island chain having departed Seattle on June 27, 2012, and a third, Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU), Arctic Challenger, is due join them as soon as final USGC inspections and approvals have been completed.
The Krill systems installed on the three support vessels will measure the amount of fuel being consumed by these vessels, in real time, and report the data back to company HQ where it will be used to record fuel use and provide the opportunity to reduce fuel consumption as well as manage emissions.
Krill Systems uses Microsoft SQL server database technology to record all sensor data with two-second resolution and storage capacity of at least one year, with unlimited roll-over capacity (ROC). Any communication system including Cellular or Satellite internet access, supporting standard SMTP email protocols, may be used to transmit customizable reports and sensor data menus, in Excel format, to any number of operators, anywhere, with no monthly fees or charges.
“Once again, we are pleased to have become part of such an important project,” said Brian Staton, Krill’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The Krill VFMMS systems installed on these vessels will allow them to operate with maximum fuel efficiency resulting in both substantial fuels savings costs and environmental advantage.”
