Fred van Beers, the newly appointed CEO for Blohm+Voss, unveil details of an aggressive new investment plan in the superyacht sector. Over the next year, the company is restructuring some independent divisions under the same roof. It’s further offering lifetime warranties and monitoring equipment on all new builds. This plan has been prepared over the past few months in partnership with Star Capital and the Board of Directors. Beers will be implementing a number of noteworthy changes over the next 12 months to reinvigorate the superyacht sector of the historic Blohm + Voss shipyard. These changes are designed to ensure that the business is fully optimized and efficient in meeting the needs of the diverse marine markets in which the company operates.

SMM was another full success. With more than 2,100 exhibitors from all around the world, including 150 first-timers, with 50,000 industry visitors and roughly 90,000 square metres of exhibition space, SMM has demonstrated once again what it means to be the leading international trade fair of the maritime industry. Severn Trent De Nora’s MARINER OMNIPURE® Series M55 Sewage Treatment System selected for use aboard LNG tanker. German ship operator Pronav has chosen the system for use aboard the “LNG Gemini”, a 72,472dwt LNG tanker. The M5508 model, which can treat black and gray water for up to 25 persons, will be installed aboard the vessel in late November 2012 when she is in Subic Bay, Philippines. Vessels generate sewage that can contain contaminants that have a detrimental effect on water quality and the overall marine environment.

It could be argued that running an efficient, safe and profitable ship repair yard is one of the most difficult of all maritime jobs. With the deal officially closed on January 31, 2012, the sale of the civilian Blohm + Voss companies – Blohm + Voss Industries, Blohm + Voss Repair and Blohm + Voss Shipyards (plus their subsidiaries) – to the UK investment company Star Capital Partners (SCP) is now complete. The purchase agreement between ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG and SCP for the acquisition of these companies was finalized on December 11, 2011. After having been docked for 20 days in dry dock ELBE 17 of Blohm + Voss Repair, a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, the Queen Mary 2 is planned to be undocked on November 13, 2008 as scheduled. The longest ocean liner worldwide is to be undocked with the morning high tide at 3:30 a.m.* (high tide: 4:01 a.m.) to leave for Southampton to start the next transatlantic voyage to New York on November 15, at 5 p.m. After the period at the Hamburg shipyard Blohm + Voss Repair, the Queen Mary 2 will be fit for service for another five years.

The cruise ship Braemar entered the Elbe 17 Dock at Blohm + Voss Repair on May 13 for lengthening and other conversion work. The ship, which belongs to the Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines will be lengthened by 31.20 metres amidships at the shipyard, which is part of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. Braemar is the second cruise ship from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines to be lengthened at Blohm + Voss Repair. She follows the conversion of the BALMORAL between November 2007 and January of this year. In addition to getting a new midship section, 18 new balconies will be installed on the BRAEMAR and her Deck 8 restaurant will be completely renovated. Various other public areas will be rebuilt or renovated as well.

After the cruise liner GTV Summit had been docked in 17 for about two weeks for the installation of a new diesel generator, on April 27. the Brilliance of the Seas will follow. Owned by the Norwegian-American company Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, a new genset will be installed in addition to other miscellaneous work to be carried out. The new diesel genset with a power of about 12 MW will be used in addition to the existing gas turbines. For the installation of the 210 tons unit, a new steel foundation will be installed and 70 metres of exhaust line will be laid. During the docking period, the bearings of both main propulsion units (pods) will be replaced and various other maintenance works, improvements and conversions will be completed. The ship will be berthed at the quay for another 12 days so that tests can be carried out and the equipment set to work in cooperation with the crew, which stayed on board during the docking period. The Matthew, a large order for the traditional Hamburg shipyard, has hundreds of people working around the clock, seven days a week so as to hand over the ship to Cabot LNG Corp as scheduled.

The Matthew, a large order for the traditional Hamburg shipyard, had hundreds of people working around the clock, seven days a week to ensure the delivery to Cabot LNG Corp. went off as scheduled. The tanker is in service on the route from Trinidad to Boston transporting natural gas, which is taken on board in liquefied form at a temperature of -162°C.

On the February 24, the containership PERU was floated into dock 10 of Blohm + Voss GmbH, a company of ThyssenKrupp Werften. The ship, which is owned by the shipping line Schepers & Co. in Elsfleth and classified by Germanischer Lloyd, has a length of 207.40 m, a beam of 29.80 m and a gross tonnage of 33,014 GRT. The work to be carried out includes repair on the sterntube seal, exchange of steel plates (approx. 1 t of steel) and the replacement of the bow thruster. On March 20, the BANASA, a combined passenger/car ferry of the shipping line Comarit of Morocco, is scheduled to arrive. With a length of 115.35 m, a beam of 20.60 m and a deadweight of 11,668 TDW, the BANASA is classified by Bureau Veritas.

The MS EUROPA, a 5-star-plus luxury cruise liner of Hapag Lloyd Kreuzfahrten GmbH arrived in the morning of 31 August 2004 at dock 10 of Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH. After its stay at the shipyard, the MS EUROPA will be setting off restyled for a 19-day. The cruise will start from Hamburg to Norway, Iceland, Greenland and on to Montreal.

The MS EUROPA 5-star-plus luxury cruise liner from the Hapag Lloyd Kreuzfahrten GmbH is expected to arrive at the dock of the Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH on 31 August 2004. Extensive modernisation will be carried out on the 198.6 metre long, 24 metre wide cruise liner by 14 September 2004. On the morning of March 30, 2004, the Black Prince of the Fred. Olsen Cruises Line shipping company docked into Dock 10 of Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH. The cruise liner as it is today was originally constructed in such a way that it was able to be employed on the one hand as a passenger liner and cargo ship, and on the other as a passenger and car ferry. The Black Prince was converted into a pure passenger liner in 1986. The ship particularly stands out due to the newly designed Marina Park – a water sports facility that is unique up to now.

The factor time becomes more and more important for repair and conversion shipyards to hold their own on the international market. Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH has recorded success with an efficiency has been continuously improved, especially to ensure extremely short work procedures. An example is the repair of the fire damage on the Superfast III. In only 71 days Blohm + Voss Repair was able to complete the job, where others had calculated a repair time of five months, i.e. 150 days.
