General Dynamics received a $20 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to continue modernizing the AN/BYG-1 Weapons Control System (WCS) Technology Insertion and Advanced Processing Build software for U. S. Navy and Royal Australian Navy submarines. The AN/BYG-1 software analyzes and tracks submarine and surface-ship contact information, providing tactical, situational awareness for submarine crews including the capability to target and employ torpedoes and missiles. “The AN/BYG-1 software program is an exceptionally cost-effective way for the Navy to quickly update and add capabilities to submarine weapon systems,” said Carlo Zaffanella, vice president and general manager of Maritime and Strategic Systems for General Dynamics Mission Systems.

Lockheed Martin Corporation, Maritime Systems and Sensors, Manassas, Va., is being awarded a $5.1m cost-plus-award-fee modification under previously awarded contract (N00024-06-C-6243) to exercise an option for engineering services and material, travel and subsistence, in support of the Submarine Combat Control Systems Structurally Integrated Enclosure CC 3-Bay program. Work will be performed in Manassas, Va., and is expected to be completed by December 2007. Contract funds in the amount of $319,942, will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting facility.

Raytheon Company has been awarded a $31 million contract from Naval Sea Systems Command for integrated combat control systems for the next five Virginia class submarines. Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) will procure, produce, test and integrate all combat control hardware and software.

Raytheon Company successfully delivered the Collins-class submarine tactical command and control system to Australia, providing enhanced combat management, tactical and weapons control capabilities to the Royal Australian Navy. Raytheon will lead the installation and integration onboard the HMAS Waller, the first Collins-class diesel submarine to be equipped with the advanced tactical command and control system. Raytheon's AN/BYG-1 is the first international version of the company's proven submarine combat management system, designated the baseline combat system for the U.S. Navy's submarine fleet. Raytheon's AN/BYG-1, developed to replace Australia's existing combat management system, not only enables interoperability with the U.S.
