Vice Adm. Richard Hunt to lead SNA

Retired Vice Adm. Richard Hunt will assume the position of president of the Surface Navy Association (SNA) at the association’s annual symposium in January. Hunt succeeds retired Vice Adm. Barry McCullough, who has been president since 2013.Hunt is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was commissioned in February 1976 through the Officer Candidate School program in Newport, R.I. He attended Naval Post Graduate School, receiving a Master of Science in Telecommunications Systems Management in March 1988.He has served in USS Sampson (DDG 10), USS Underwood (FFG 36) and USS Roark (FF 1053), and has commanded USS Crommelin (FFG 37) and USS Philippine Sea (CG 58).

Raytheon Anschütz Expands US operations

Raytheon Company announced the launch of its new subsidiary, Raytheon Anschuetz USA LLC, located in San Diego, Calif. According to the company, Raytheon Anschuetz USA LLC aims to reinforce customer care and support for Raytheon Anschütz navigation systems in the United States for commercial ship owners and shipyards as well as government entities, including the Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, Navy and Army. “In January 2012, Raytheon Anschütz returned to the U.S. navigation systems market with the establishment of a San Diego-based regional sales office. Now, we are taking the next step to becoming America’s new center of navigation excellence,” said Frank Christophersen, president of the new subsidiary.

Coastal Watch Center Opens in Philippines

A new National Coast Watch Center (NCWC) for maritime security has opened in the Republic of the Philippines. Raytheon Company designed, implemented and equipped the center and its coastal system using the company's integrated border security solutions. The NCWC is the hub of the Philippines' National Coast Watch System for maritime security. The system improves the ability of the country's maritime forces to detect, prevent and deter threats and security risks across its territorial waters. The Raytheon team also provided communication and surveillance solutions for the islands of Palawan and Cebu with associated training and sustainment for the Filipino operators.

US Navy Expands Shipboard Missile Authorization

The U.S. Navy authorized ships in the Aegis Combat Weapon System baselines 5.3 and 3.A.0 series to carry the Raytheon Company Standard Missile-6. The authorization expands the missile's use from five ships to more than 35 ships. "SM-6 is the longest range integrated air and missile defense interceptor deployed, and its multirole capabilities are unprecedented," said Mike Campisi, Standard Missile-6 senior program director. To date, Raytheon has delivered more than 130 missiles to the U.S. Navy, which deployed SM-6 for the first time in December 2013, the company said.

Raytheon Appoint Vecchiolla Business President

Raytheon says it has appointed Thomas A. Vecchiolla as president, Raytheon International, Inc., effective immediately. In his new role, Vecchiolla will be responsible for leading Raytheon's international business team worldwide. Vecchiolla will report to John Harris, vice president, business development, Raytheon Company, and CEO, Raytheon International, Inc. and will be based in Washington, DC. "Tom's impressive depth of industry knowledge and strong customer relationships, combined with his political expertise and military background, provide him with a strong foundation to advance Raytheon's focus on global growth and customer success," said Harris.

Raytheon Get US$35-Million Navy LCS Sonar Contract

Raytheon Company says it is to provide the U.S. Navy with AN/AQS-20A minehunting sonar systems and equipment. The system leverages advanced sonar technologies to support the Navy's critical minehunting missions, ensuring safe access and passage for military and civilian vessels on the world's oceans and waterways. Deployed from the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) as the variable depth sonar for the AN/WLD-1 Remote Minehunting System (RMS), the AN/AQS-20A system is towed undersea to scan the water in front, below and to the sides of the vehicle for anti-shipping mines.

Raytheon Company says its Board of Directors has elected Dr. Thomas A. Kennedy to serve as its Chief Executive Officer, effective March 31, 2014, when William H. Swanson, who has served as CEO since 2003, steps down following his 65th birthday. Afterwards, Swanson will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors while the Company completes the transition to the new Chief Executive Officer. Raytheon Company has established the Raytheon – Zumwalt Scholarship, in honor of Admiral Elmo R. "Bud" Zumwalt, Jr., Chief of Naval Operations (1970 – 1974), and the next-generation multimission destroyer, the DDG 1000 class, which aptly bears the Zumwalt name. Established through the Anchor Scholarship Foundation, Raytheon has funded a $125,000 endowment to support an ongoing program to provide annual scholarships to students pursuing a four-year degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) related field. Candidates must be either a dependent child or a spouse of a U.S.

Raytheon Demo Advanced Maritime Radar in Australia

Raytheon Company completes test and demonstration flights of the SeaVue XMC (eXpanded Mission Capability) maritime surveillance radar in Australia. The SeaVue XMC maritime surveillance radar's innovative features provide both radar and mission system advanced capabilities, such as automatically detecting, tracking and sorting thousands of maritime targets simultaneously and correlating radar tracks with Automatic Identification System (AIS) contacts. The system also geographically registers radar detections to AIS data and digital nautical chart features, allowing for more precise target tracking, locating of threats and accurate cross-sensor cueing to the electro-optic system.

Raytheon Anschuetz Introduce Shipborne Training Simulator

Raytheon to unveil at upcoming CANSEC 2013 Expo an onboard navigation simulator that allows operators to train with the system they will use at sea. Raytheon Anschuetz, a German based, indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Raytheon Company, developed the embedded, simulation-based training system in partnership with Canadian-based Virtual Marine Technology (VMT) to enhance the realism and effectiveness of training offered to operators of Anschuetz's Integrated Navigation System.

Raytheon to Supply Navy Unmanned Vessel Sonar

Raytheon Company awarded a sub-contract from Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) for its latest medium frequency hull-mounted sonar system. The sub-contract is part of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program. According to the U.S. Navy , 43 nations operate more than 600 submarines; the steady increase in undersea vessels makes tracking a challenge. Raytheon's Modular Scalable Sonar System (MS3) will integrate into SAIC's prototype trimaran vessel as the primary search and detection sonar. The systemis designed to provide search, detection, passive-threat filtering, localization and tracking capabilities without requiring human operation.

Ship Self-Defense Contract for Raytheon

Raytheon awarded US Navy contract to extend open architecture combat system deployment and fleet support. Raytheon Company has been awarded a $22.5 million U.S. Navy contract for the Ship Self-Defense System. With this award, Raytheon will continue system development, test and integration, as well as Platform Systems Engineering Agent (PSEA) services and support for fleet-deployed systems. SSDS is an open, distributed combat management system in service on carriers and amphibious ships, including CVN, LSD dock landing ship, LPD, LHA and LHD classes. The LHA variant is nearing initial deployment, a technical refresh of the LSD-class is almost complete, and system development is underway for the new CVN 78-class of aircraft carriers.

Raytheon Anschütz has developed an innovative system solution for OPV’s, smaller Naval and Coast Guard vessels. At Euronaval, the Synapsis Command Bridge is launched as a combination of commercial-off-the-shelf navigation with Command & Control capabilities to a new, homogeneous bridge system. The Synapsis Command Bridge aims to provide a solution that not only includes the Synapsis Integrated Navigation capabilities but also transfers enhanced Command & Control (C2) capabilities from the Raytheon Anschütz’ SmartBlue surveillance system to a new sea-based application.

Raytheon Anschütz expands to USA

Raytheon Anschütz is expanding its presence in the U.S. navigation systems market with the opening of its San Diego, Calif.-based operations in January 2012. The business area will be co-located at Raytheon’s established facility, dedicated to the development and delivery of naval and maritime systems and technology. With the new office, Raytheon Anschütz focuses its capabilities in providing navigation systems and customer support to the U.S. maritime industry. The U.S. office will promote the full portfolio of Raytheon Anschütz’s navigation  components and solutions, including gyro compasses, autopilots and steering controls, radars, ECDIS and complete integrated bridge systems for both, new and retrofit projects.

RiverHawk Launches First-of-Class Advanced Multimission Platform (AMP) at Tampa Yard. RiverHawk Fast Sea Frames (RHFSF) has launched its signature Advanced Multimission Platform (AMP) at its shipyard in Tampa, Florida. Fully designed and built in the United States, the 145-foot coastal security craft was contracted 12 months ago by the U S Department of the Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) to Maritime Security Strategies (MSS) of Tampa, Florida. RiverHawk designed, produced and is outfitting the ship, scheduled for final delivery to NAVSEA in May.

Raytheon Delivers US Fleet's First Dual Frequency Sonar

Raytheon Company completed delivery of the electronics for the AN/SQQ-90 tactical sonar suite, the complex sonar for the first ship of the U.S. Navy's DDG 1000-class multimission destroyer. The AN/SQQ-90 tactical sonar suite, the first dual-frequency hull-mounted sonar of the Navy's surface fleet, is a major advancement in undersea warfare capability and will provide broad warfighting coverage to DDG 1000. Raytheon delivered the sonar electronics completely assembled and integrated into an Electronic Modular Enclosure (EME), an innovation to 21st century shipbuilding designed into the Zumwalt-class destroyer program for affordability.

GPS Systems Integration Milestone Reached

Raytheon Company and Lockheed Martin successfully completed the first significant integration milestone between Raytheon's Global Positioning System (GPS next generation operational control system (OCX)) and Lockheed Martin's GPS lll satellite system. Adapting Commercial Container Ships to Deliver Emergency Aid

Through the TEMP program, Raytheon is creating an innovative system of modular technologies – including air and sea cargo transport, cargo transfer and onboard support resources – that enable commercial container ships (cargo ships) to support humanitarian aid and other non-combat missions through the use of advanced technology such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Unlike naval ships, commercial vessels are not designed with the capabilities needed for aid missions. Through the TEMP system, alternative vessels such as container ships could be quickly readied to carry out an aid initiative with limited manpower. The system can be deployed in less than a day and is capable of maintaining mission operations for 30 days or more.
