Harland & Wolff to Build NnG Offshore Wind Farm Jackets in Methil, Creating 290 Jobs

InfraStrata's Harland & Wolff has won a contract with Saipem to build and load out eight wind turbine generator (WTG) jacket foundations for the EDF Renewables and ESB Energy-owned Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm project, located in the outer Firth of Forth in Scotland.The contract value is around £26million (~$35,7 million), with the contract scheduled to start from July 1, 2021.The works for fabrication, consolidation and load-out of the eight WTG jacket foundations will principally be conducted at Harland and Wolff's newly acquired Methil facilities in Scotland…

When one thinks of offshore renewable energy, one usually thinks of offshore wind. For the first time progress is being made in the U.S. to develop offshore wind resources. The first steel foundation jacket has been placed in the ocean floor to support the Deepwater Wind project off the coast of Block Island, Rhode Island. (See www.dwwind.com/press/#/1). But recently, progress is also being made in the development of tidal and wave energy resources closer to shore, which are known as marine hydrokinetic or MHK resources.

Thomsen Joins Strategic Marine

Specialist shipbuilder Strategic Marine has appointed Dennis Thomsen as its Business Development Manager aimed at boosting its presence in the wind vessel and European work boats markets. He will be based out of Singapore. Dennis will be responsible for all wind vessel and European workboat related business development activities including strategic planning and market growth. He has experience in the offshore wind industry and joins Strategic Marine from Samsung Heavy Industry where he was the general manager, sales, in Europe for Offshore Wind Steel Foundation. RCL Ship to be Modernized at Blohm + Voss Repair

After the cruise liner GTV Summit had been docked in 17 for about two weeks for the installation of a new diesel generator, on April 27. the Brilliance of the Seas will follow. Owned by the Norwegian-American company Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, a new genset will be installed in addition to other miscellaneous work to be carried out. The new diesel genset with a power of about 12 MW will be used in addition to the existing gas turbines. For the installation of the 210 tons unit, a new steel foundation will be installed and 70 metres of exhaust line will be laid. During the docking period, the bearings of both main propulsion units (pods) will be replaced and various other maintenance works, improvements and conversions will be completed. The underwater coating will be renewed as well.
