In 2018, Havyard Design & Solutions won a contract for the delivery of two ship designs to Royal Arctic Line A/S. Russian Navy Vessel Collides with Container Ship in Danish Waters

A Russian navy vessel collided with a Swiss-owned container ship in Danish waters on Wednesday near the Oresund Bridge linking Denmark and Sweden, Danish defense authorities told Reuters.The Ice Rose, which was sailing from St. Petersburg in Russia to Gothenburg in Sweden, collided with a Russian frigate early on Wednesday morning, a spokesman for the Joint Operation Centre said.He said the reason for the collision was not clear, but that the Russian vessel had permission to be in Danish waters and had notified Danish authorities of its presence.No one aboard the Ice Rose was injured and there were no signs of oil leaks or ingress of waterā€¦

Report: Reefer Ship Attacked Offshore Nigeria. Two Crew Members Kidnapped

Maritime security intelligence agencies have reported that the Water Phoenix reefer vessel was boarded Tuesday morning off Nigeria by an unknown number of persons and that two Russian nationals have been kidnapped.Per Praesidium International, a risk consultancy and maritime security company, the incident happened at 5:50 a.m. UTC Tuesday, approximately 34 nautical miles south of Lagos."According to the initial reports, the perpetrators managed to board the vessel and kidnap the master and another crew member, both Russian," Praesidium said, adding that the crew includes 18 seafarers, of which seven Russians and 11 Filipinos. Hapag-Lloyd Launches Reefer Monitoring Tool

Zamakona Launches Siuana Arctica

Spanish shipbuilding and ship repair company Zamakona Yards reached a new milestone with the launching of the first of two new 69-meter reefer vessels to be built for the Greenlandic shipowner Royal Arctic Line A/S. Launching will take place February 4.The vessel will be named as Siuana Arctica and will replace the existing vessel Pajuttaat built in 1979. Conceptual design is being carried out by the Norwegian company Havyard Design & Solutions.The ship is designed to operate in northwest Greenland and have greater capacity than current ship. Eimskip Sells Three Reefer Vessels

Icelandic container line and a logistics company Eimskip has made an agreement to sell three of its reefer vessels in Norway for USD 12 million (EUR 10.9 million).The vessels, Langfoss, Stigfoss and Vidfoss, are 30 years old and have been operated by Eimskip in Norway for 20 years and owned by the Company for the last 8 years. Eimskip has parallel to the sale agreed to charter one of the divested vessels for the next two years.Eimskip is currently operating six reefer vessels but following the sale it will operate four, of which three are owned by Eimskip. Container line Ocean Network Express (ONE) is adding another 6,000 refrigerated containers (reefers) to its fleet as the trade continues to outperform that for conventional boxes.The new Reefer would expand its current refrigerated container (reefer) fleet of 240,000 TEU. SCCT Announces Reefer Repair Hub

The Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), strategically located at the mouth of the Suez Canal in Egypt, has announced its intention to open its reefer container inspection and repair hub to all brands. The terminal will also launch a dry container inspection and repair hub in October 2019.Until just over a year ago, the terminal faced unnecessary costs for moving and repositioning reefer containers with damaged panels or defects that hadnā€™t been recorded, said a press release from the APM Terminals, which holds majority stake in SCCT.Since it opened its reefer container inspection and repair hub for Maersk containers around a year ago, the terminal has inspected close to 30,000 reefers.

Hapag-Lloyd Orders 13,000 Reefers

Indian Container Trade Grows 6%: Maersk

Indiaā€™s containerised trade grew 6 per cent during the last quarter of 2018, with the western region outperforming the other three regions in Q4 trade.A report released by the worldā€™s largest container shipping company Maersk has attributed the growth in trade to increased demand for refrigerated cargo from India coupled with improved trade relations with China. The demand for India-made goods such as vehicles, cereals and rice; supplemented by refrigerated cargo such as fish, seafood, vegetables and pharmaceuticals saw maximum growth in exports.While imports have maintained a stable growth of 9%, largely driven by substantial inflow of metals and paper.

APM Terminals Barcelona Cuts CO2

The electrical capacity of the APM Terminals Barcelona has also been improved, leading to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 600 tonnes per annum, said the international container terminal operating company headquartered in The Hague.As part of a broader Port of Barcelonaā€™s programme for alternative fuel use, APM Terminals is also working with LNG services provider HAM, technology provider IDIADA and Naturgy Iberia, on a pilot to convert an existing straddle carrier to natural gas.Natural gas burns a lot more cleanly and efficiently than diesel. The straddle carrierā€™s two 150 kW diesel-based motor engines are currently being converted to natural gas while maintaining the same level of performance.

APM Costa Rica Enhances Reefer Services

APM Terminals Inland Services in Costa Rica has worked closely with one of the worldā€™s largest producers and exporters of tropical fruit.The Hague-based international container terminal operating company  said in a press release that among other things, the solution has helped optimize the flow of containers to fruit plantations on the Caribbean coast, increase efficiency and lower reefer inventory.With a large number of refrigerated containers (reefers) being shipped to global markets by Costa Rican tropical fruit exporters, the challenge is finding a cost-effective way of getting them back to the farmer to start their cycle again.Many of the reefer containers are shipped back as non-operating reefers (NORs).
