LNG Majors Okay MHPS Gas Turbine

The engineering and manufacturing giant Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group (MHI Group) said it has completed successive technical qualification, conducted by oil majors and engineering companies on Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems’ 120MW H-100 Gas Turbine.To date, major LNG players, including ExxonMobil, Shell, Total, along with key engineering contractors such as Bechtel, have all completed extensive qualification studies on Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems' 120MW H-100 Gas Turbine for use as the mechanical driver in conjunction with well-proven compressors of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corporation."Acceptance of our LNG Solution by customers around the globe is a real boost for the MHI team"…

HHI, GE Win AIP for Gas Turbine-powered Carrier

Hyundai Heavy Industries announced today that the company has jointly developed world’s first gas turbine-powered 174,000 m3 LNG carrier with GE Aviation and Marine (GE), a leading industrial gas turbine maker, and has secured Approval in Principle (AIP) on the vessel from the UK-based Lloyd’s Register. The IMO Tier III-compliant 174,000 m3 LNG carrier is equipped with GE’s gas turbine-based Combined Gas turbine Electric and Steam system (COGES 2.0). The vessel is expected to save shipowners or operators an estimated 20 billion Korean won ($17.83 million) on the assumption that the LNG carrier operates for 20 years with an annual operating cost of $720,000, since it does not need additional equipment to handle exhaust emissions.

BG Group Selects Rolls-Royce Trent 60 DLE

Rolls-Royce is proud to announce that BG Group has selected the Trent 60 DLE industrial gas turbine as the driver for the main refrigeration compressors in the proposed Lake Charles LNG Export project in Louisiana, USA. BG Group and Rolls-Royce have also agreed the terms of a Long Term Service Agreement covering the support and maintenance of the equipment for up to 25 years that will help deliver high levels of availability for this important LNG plant. Both the equipment and service contracts are expected to be activated in the first half of 2015, subject to the US LNG plant permitting process and final investment decisions by BG Group and Energy Transfer, the developers of the project.

Two Offshore Industry Contracts for Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce will supply Petrobras with advanced maintenance and repair services to support fifteen Rolls-Royce RB211-G62 industrial gas turbine power generation units which are installed on four Petrobras oil platforms operating in the petroleum rich, pre-salt Campos Basin. The four Petrobras platforms, which together can produce over 500,000 barrels of oil per day, or 25 per cent of Brazil's entire output, are reliant on nearly 375MW of Rolls-Royce generated power to maintain a consistently high production output.

Siemens Receives Major Order for Russian LNG Project

Siemens will deliver the key components for a power station that is going to supply the future Yamal LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) production plant in Northern Russia with electricity and heat. The Siemens scope of supply comprises the design, manufacture, factory testing, delivery, installation and commissioning of eight SGT-800 industrial gas turbines as well as nine step-up transformers. Four of these turbines will additionally be equipped with waste heat recovery units. The power plant will have an electrical output of 376 megawatts (MWe). The order has been placed by the Russian engineering company Technopromexport (TPE), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rostec State Corporation.

Waller Marine Installs Floating Power Generation Barges, Venezuela

Waller Marine, Inc. announced the successful installation of its recently constructed floating power generation barges into a prepared basin at Tacoa, Venezuela. The two 171 MW barges, each supporting a GE 7FA dual fuel industrial gas turbine, will quickly be connected to the grid and soon supply much needed power to Caracas. The basin will be closed from the ocean this week for the installation of two large structural caissons, each having dimensions of 115 ft long by 16 ft wide by 26 ft high and 450 tons, which will be positioned at the entrance of the basin to house the power barges.

Rolls-Royce Invests in Future of Engineering

Rolls-Royce has donated a 501-K5A industrial gas turbine to The George Washington University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS). GW Engineering students will use the gas turbine to develop a finite element computer model and conduct analysis in jet engine failure preventions as well as a range of other topics. They will also use digitized data from the 501-K5 to help create a generic engine model. The engine will be housed at the University’s National Crash Analysis Center (NCAC) in Ashburn, VA. It was formally unveiled at a ceremony yesterday. “ We view this donation as an investment in future engineers and in the future of engineering,” said Pat Marolda, President, Rolls-Royce Naval Marine and SEAS alumnus.

FGH Delivers Power Barges

Waller Marine, Inc., took delivery of two 30 MW power barges from the Friede Goldman Offshore shipyard, Pascagoula, MS, in April 2001 and immediately loaded the vessels on the M.V. Smit Express for their dry tow to Lagos, Nigeria. The 60 MWs of power will be connected to other similar vessels, delivering much needed electricity to the city of Lagos. Each power barge was designed by Waller to ABS River Rule standards, each supporting a single General Electric, frame 6B, industrial gas turbine generator set, controls, switchgear, main transformer and associated equipment. Waller contracted Friede Goldman for the vessel's construction, installation and testing under a fast track schedule to deliver the units to Lagos. Waller is currently designing power barges for installation in U.S.
