Rolls-Royce, Astican Open Las Palmas Workshop

Rolls-Royce yesterday opened a new, custom built, 2,100-square-meter service facility at the Astican Shipyard in Las Palmas, on Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. The center is a partnership between Rolls-Royce and the shipyard. Las Palmas’ position in the Atlantic allows Rolls-Royce and Astican to enhance their support to rig and drillship owners undertaking ongoing exploration, production and development operations in Europe, Africa and the Americas, Rolls-Royce said, adding the center will also service future growth in the offshore supply and service market as well as the fisheries sector.

German Cruise Upgrades with Rolls-Royce Propulsion

Rolls-Royce Plc won a contract to supply its Promas Lite propulsion system to German based company AIDA Cruises as part of a technical upgrade of their Sphinx series cruise ships. Promas Lite is an integrated propeller and rudder system that increases efficiency and maneuverability, and is designed specifically for retrofitting to existing ships. AIDA Cruises, part of the Carnival Group, will install Promas Lite on their AidaSol cruise ship during dry docking in December this year.

New President, Naval Business, at Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce appoints Don Roussinos as President Naval - Marine, succeeding Andy Marsh. Don, who holds a Bachelors of Science in Electronic Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology and a Master of Management from Cambridge College, joins Rolls-Royce from L-3 Communications where he most recently held the position of President – L-3 Maritime Systems. He has held a number of senior roles at L-3 during his career and has also worked at Lau Technologies, General Electric and Textron. He will be based at the Rolls-Royce North America headquarters in Reston, Virginia and will report to both Tony Wood, President – Marine, and Jim Guyette, President & CEO Rolls-Royce North America Inc.

Rolls-Royce Supplies French Navy

Rolls-Royce announced that it has won a $12.5m order for the supply of podded propulsion equipment and stabilizing fins for the latest French Navy Mistral class amphibious assault ship. This latest order follows earlier contracts to supply podded propulsors and stabilisers on the first two ships in the class - Mistral and Tonnerre - which entered service in 2006 and 2007 respectively. The third vessel, to be built by STX Europe, is expected to enter service in 2012. Rolls-Royce President – Naval, Andy Marsh said: “The contract recognizes our ability to deliver a wide range of propulsion and motion control equipment and underlines our important relationship with the French Navy.
