Mackay Opens Sales and Service Center in Cape Town

Mackay Marine announced Wednesday it has opened its newest marine electronics sales and service center in Cape Town, South Africa, following the acquisition of Dynamic Marine Systems (DMS) (Pty) Ltd.Specializing in nav/comm electronics, dynamic positioning systems (DP), and automation equipment, DMS serves high-seas, oil and gas, coastal, commercial fishing and naval customers. Estonian Ferry Opts for Hybrid Retrofit

Estonian ferry company TS Laevad has signed an agreement with the Estonian shipbuilding company Baltic Workboats AS to rebuild the ferry Tõll, which operates the on the Virtsu-Kuivastu line, into environmentally friendly hybrid ship.The subsidiary of Tallinna Sadam said in a press release that during the reconstruction, a battery bank will be installed on the vessel to reduce the consumption of diesel fuel and reduce the resulting exhaust gas by replacing fossil fuel with electricity stored in battery banks.According to Jaak Kaabel, Chairman of the Board of TS Laevad, the project expects TS Laevad to replace about a fifth of the diesel fuel consumption with electricity.“We believe that on shorter ferry routes the environmentally friendly power ships are the future of ferry traffic…

Aker Solutions, Siemens Join Forces To Strengthen Digital Offerings

ABB Wins Order for World's Biggest Offshore Wind Farm

ABB has won orders worth more than $150 million from Danish energy company Ørsted to supply technology to transmit wind energy from the 1,400 megawatt (MW) Hornsea Project Two, slated to be the world's largest offshore wind farm.The orders were booked in the second quarter of 2018 and are the first tranche of a global five year frame agreement for the supply of electrical and automation equipment for offshore and onshore wind power connection and integration to the grid, ABB said.ABB will supply its Static Var Compensation (SVC) Light technology with ABB Ability MACH control systems…

First LNG Fuelled Tug for Middle East by Wärtsilä

Drydocks World (DDW) based in Dubai, UAE, has contracted Wärtsilä to design and supply the propulsion and other equipment for a new harbour tug that will operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG). This will be the first harbour tug in the Middle East region to operate on gas. The order was signed in November. The 29-meter-long tug is the first of a series of nine such vessels to be built and operated by DDW. The project is part of a green initiative launched by the Dubai government, and is intended to set an example for promoting environmental sustainability throughout the region. "We are happy to work with Wärtsilä to promote a green image for our harbour work. Wärtsilä is a solution provider with vast experience and expertise in gas fuel systems.

Kongsberg Selected for Sverdrup Field Development

Kongsberg Maritime AS has been awarded a Project Specific Agreement including FEED for delivery of Safety and Automation (SAS) systems to the four Johan Sverdrup field platforms by Statoil Petroleum AS. The Project Specific Agreement includes an option for delivery of Safety and Automation Equipment including detail engineering services and commissioning services. New Oil Tanker Series RS Classed

Two river-sea oil tankers of project RST 22M are to be built to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) class. A relevant agreement is signed by RS with Armada Shipyard that will construct the ships for the Palmali Group of Companies. At present, RS experts are engaged in the plan approval of the ships. According to the agreement, RS will render classification of the newbuildings and survey under construction for compliance with applicable statutory requirements. RS experts will perform survey of hull construction and the installation of machinery, electrical and automation equipment, and will check the ship compliance with approved technical documentation, all the applicable international and national requirements, as well as participate in the mooring tests and trials.

New Icebreaker Arktika Under RS Survey

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has performed survey of the forged blanks of a new generation RITM-200 reactor vessel for the lead dual draft nuclear icebreaker Arktika (project 22220). The new icebreaker Arktika is built to RS class with the class notation КМ   Icebreaker 9   AUT2-ICS EPP. During the construction of the icebreaker, RS experts performed survey of hull, machinery, equipment, devices, radio navigation and electrical facilities, automation equipment in compliance with the requirements of RS rules, RS-approved project documentation as well as with the applicable requirements of international codes and conventions. Upon the completion of construction, RS will continue survey of the icebreaker under operation.

Seaspan’s Selects PEMA Equipment for NSPS Project

The National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS) is an initiative of the Canadian Government to build new ships for the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard. Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards won the right to bid on the non-combat vessels under this strategy, and as such is proceeding with a $200 million Shipyard Modernization Program to support execution. As a part of modernization project, Seaspan selected PEMA welding automation equipment for their panel production.

Adria Winch, a leader in designing and manufacturing of hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic deck equipment for vessels, has chosen the QTERM-A7 human machine interface (HMI) with iX software by Beijer Electronics to control five oceanographic winches located on an open deck of a Russian research icebreaker ship. The QTERM-A7 was chosen because of its ability to operate in harsh environments and its compatibility with existing PLC systems.

Beijer Electronics' 7" QTERM-A7 & 12" QTERM-A12 interface terminals now American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certified for marine applications. With the recent ABS classification, US-based Beijer Electronic's, QTERM-A7 and QTERM-A12 terminals can now be used in many challenging marine applications including ballast water treatment and propulsion. Known for being built for demanding environments, the QTERM-A7 and QTERM-A12 are also Class I Div 2 certified for hazardous conditions.

Russian Navy Receives New Harbor Tugboat

JSC Astrakhan Ship Repair Plant have built and delivered a new harbor hug to the Caspian Flotilla. Project 705B harbor tug was deigned specially for the Caspian Sea and the estuary of the Volga River. The ship is equipped with up-to-date navigation aids GLONASS, communication and automation equipment. Basic features of the ship is high navigability and shallow draft (0.28 meters) making possible to navigate in shallow waters of the Volga River, the Volga-Caspian Canal, and northern zones of the Caspian Sea. Two 800-shp engines make the vessel capableof towing any ship in the Caspian Flotilla.

Russian Icebreaker Keel Laid Down

A ceremony to mark the keel laying of the project 21900M icebreaker, to be classified by RS, was held at the ОАО Vyborg Shipyard. The Icebreaker is to be constructed according to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS)  class with notation: KM (*) Icebreaker6 [2] AUT1-ICS FF2 BWM EPP ECO HELIDECK Special purpose ship. Construction of the ship is being carried out within the Federal Target Program "Development of Transport System in Russia (2010 - 2015)". The new icebreaker has been upgraded taking into account the experience of previous projects’ icebreakers operated during winter navigation in the Gulf of Finland. Project 21900М icebreaker is a double-decker with helideck, a displacement of about 10 000 t, and with two full-revolving rudder propellers [sic] and a bow thruster.

Approval for Water Treatment System

Finnish-based Auramarine Ltd. has recently received an IMO type approval for its CrystalBallast ballast water treatment system. The approval was issued by DNV on behalf of the Norwegian Maritime Directorate after the successful land-based and shipboard testing in accordance with International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) “Guidelines for approval of BWM Systems (G8)” and DNV rules. In addition, the electrical components were subjected to DNV’s “Environmental test specification for instrumentation and automation equipment, DNV Standard for Certification No 2.4”. These requirements are more stringent than the IMO requirements and include, for instance, also electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), vibration, low temperatures and damp heat testing.

Offshore Automation Contract for ABB

ABB wins four-year $16 million automation services contract renewal for PEMEX in Mexico. ABB wins an order worth $16 million for the renewal of a lifecycle service contract to maintain and upgrade automation equipment installed on sixteen offshore production platforms in PEMEX’s Cantarell and Ku-Maloob-Zaap Oil Fields. Cantarell and Ku-Maloob-Zaap are the largest and most productive oil fields in Mexico, located in the Bay of Campeche, about 100 kilometers northwest of Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico. Collectively they produce over 1.3 million barrels of crude oil per day. Seventh AIDA Ship to Sail with Siemens Technology

Siemens Industry Solutions Division has received an order from the Meyer Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, to equip another club ship for the AIDA Cruises shipping company with diesel-electric propulsion systems, and power generation and distribution systems. The scope of supply also includes the automation equipment which will control and monitor all the on-board functions. The value of this order lies in the lower double-digit million euro range. When the new passenger ship comes into service in the spring of 2013, it will be the seventh AIDA ship to be equipped with Siemens technology.

SAM Taihang to Equip Brazilian Tankers

SAM Taihang Electronics, SAM Electronics’ Chinese subsidiary in Taizhou, Jiangsu Province, has been awarded a contract for the supply of comprehensive automation and electrical systems to be installed on four 48,300 dwt product tankers being built at the Estaleiro Maua Petro-Um yard in Rio de Janeiro for Transpetro, the logistics and transportation arm of the Brazilian state oil company, Petrobas. Due for delivery in 2010-11, the vessels form part of Transpetro’s major fleet renewal programme involving construction of over 40 newbuildings, Promef.
