Kongsberg Maritime to Supply Propulsion Systems for Six Philippine Navy Vessels

Norway's Kongsberg Maritime has won an order for six sets of controllable pitch propeller systems from South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries for installation in six new 94-meter offshore patrol vessels for the Philippine Navy.Each propulsion set will consist of twin Kongsberg Kamewa Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP) 86 A/5 D-B systems, as well as shaft lines, hydraulic power units, local operating panels, and accessories. The first shipset will be delivered in August 2024.The six new offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) are part of a major upgrade to Philippine naval capacity.

Kongsberg Rolls Out CPX Propeller Lineup

Kongsberg Maritime (KM) announced it is dividing its propeller systems into three distinct categories, C-Line, P-Line, and X-Line.The ‘C’ in C-Line stands for ‘Configured’, and indicates that these propellers are configured within a pre-defined technical spectrum to suit customers whose priorities are short lead times and a strong performance-to-cost ratio, the manufacturer said. Numerous options are available within the C-Line propeller solution to fine-tune the offering further, presented in a lucid and straightforward manner which simplifies the decision process for customers.

C&C Marine and Repair has delivered the new towboat Olive Parker to Parker Towing Company. The vessel is the first the Belle Chasse, La. shipbuilder has built for the Tuscaloosa, Ala. based company.The 4,400-horsepower towboat measures 147.5’ x 34’ x 10’-9” with the pilot house eyeline measuring at 33’. Kongsberg Propellers for Spanish Navy Frigates

Norwegian maritime equipment and systems provider Kongsberg Maritime has won a contract to deliver propeller systems for five F110 frigates, currently in construction for the Spanish Navy. Rolls-Royce to Boost Output for the US Navy

Rolls-Royce and the Defense Production Act Title III office will invest millions of dollars to upgrade the company’s capability and capacity for U.S. Navy ship propulsion components in its facility in Pascagoula, Miss.The DPA Title III office has already agreed to invest $22 million for equipment, with Rolls-Royce making an additional investment for building improvements, supplemented with support from Jackson County and the state of Mississippi.Naval components manufactured by Rolls-Royce at Pascagoula include controllable-pitch propeller systems, fixed pitch propellers, and water jets.

New Yangtze River Cruise Ship Under Construction

Shipbuilder China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) is building a new cruise vessel for owner Changjiang Cruise Overseas Travel.The CSC-designed vessel is intended for operation on the Yangtze River, the largest river in China, and is scheduled to enter service in September 2021.The 150-meter-long long and 23-meter-wide vessel will reach an operating cruise speed of 14 knots. A paintings by Maarten Platje called the Great Chase  tells this amazing story of the US Frigate Constitution being becalmed off the New Jersey coast and becoming engaged in a rowing race to keep out of range of a powerful British Squadron. Today it is a wonderful little museum and right now it has a very interesting show of paintings by Maarten Platje on the War of 1812. Voith Delivers First U.S.-Built VSP Units

A new US-flagged inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) vessel leverages three different propulsion systems for improved maneuverability and a high free running speed.The IMR vessel Paul Candies, built in 2018 by Louisiana builder Candies Shipbuilders and owned by its parent company Otto Candies, is equipped with two Combi Drives, two transverse thrusters and one retractable rudderpropeller from manufacturer SCHOTTEL.Due to two type SCD 560 STP SCHOTTEL Combi Drive azimuth thrusters the diesel-electric vessel reaches a top speed of 14 knots.

Finland Ferries Standardizes with SCHOTTEL

The SCHOTTEL After Sales Team has carried out a modernization on two double-ended ferries operated by FinFerries. Both vessels, capable of holding either 14 cars or up to 60 tons of payload, were originally equipped with various propeller systems manufactured in different years. For the retrofit, the state-owned operator requested a tailor-made concept to allow the same propeller assembly to be used. At the same time, the solution had to be quick and easy to install.In each ferry, two SCHOTTEL Rudderpropellers type SRP 150 have been installed.

Seaspan Opts for SCHOTTEL Again

SCHOTTEL has been chosen as propulsion supplier for two new build Ro-Ro ferries under construction at Damen Shipyards Mangalia, Romania. Each of the vessels ordered by Canadian Seaspan Ferries Corporation will be propelled by two SCHOTTEL Combi Drives and two SCHOTTEL Transverse Thrusters. The new ferries will join the company’s first two hybrid vessels, “Seaspan Swift” and “Seaspan Reliant”, which were commissioned just over two years ago. Wärtsilä Propulsion for First UK Dual-fuel Ships

he first ever UK domestic dual-fuelled new build vessels will feature fully integrated Wärtsilä propulsion machinery packages. Wärtsilä will also supply extended engineering and site support services. The two ships, both 102 metre long ro-ro passenger ferries, are being built for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) based in Port Glasgow, Scotland. The contracts with Wärtsilä were recorded in December 2015. Besides being the first dual-fuel vessels for CMAL, they are also the first ever dual-fuel ships to be built in the UK. These will be built by Ferguson Marine Engineering Ltd. The yard is located on the River Clyde in Glasgow. "This project highlights the fact that high-end, technologically advanced commercial shipbuilding is again present in Scotland.

Stone Marine, NGC Marine Launch Joint Company

Propeller design and manufacturing company Stone Marine Propulsion has joined forces with NGC Marine of China to form a new supplier of propulsion solutions and marine gearbox equipment. The new U.K. based company, Stone Marine Propulsion NGC Ltd, is a subsidiary of Stone Marine Propulsion. It combines the experience of Stone Marine Propulsion in propeller design, hydrodynamics and metallurgy with that of NGC Marine Ltd, a manufacturer of marine propulsion and gearbox equipment. Units are available to suit a range of vessel types and sizes, including merchant, commercial and offshore. Already available are CPP propeller systems, Azimuth and Tunnel Thrusters of various types, and the company will also custom design and manufacture propeller, shaft and rudder products built.

Wartsila Propulsion System for New NMDC's Dredger

Wärtsilä supplied the full propulsion package for National Marine Dredging Company's (NMDC) new, state-of-the-art Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) launched in September. The 6,000 m3 capacity TSHD was designed by the IHC shipyard in the Netherlands in close cooperation with NMDC. The customized solution combines a shallow draft and a deep dredging depth with high manoeuvrability. The vessel has been specially designed to operate in high ambient temperatures, and the Wärtsilä machinery is capable of operating efficiently in such conditions. The scope of Wärtsilä’s supply, which comprises two eight-cylinder Wärtsilä 32 engines specially tuned for dredging operations, two controllable pitch propeller systems and two tunnel thrusters, provides the required power and manoeuvrability.

Schell, Appointed CEO, Rolls-Royce Power Systems
