Kraken Robotics Delivers Minehunting Systems to Royal Danish Navy

Canadian company Kraken Robotics has completed deliveries and sea acceptance tests of all systems for its minehunting sonar equipment under the contract with Royal Danish Navy.The contract was signed in September 2020, following a competitive bidding process. UK to Upgrade Warship Defence Missile System used in Red Sea

Britain's Ministry of Defence said on Sunday it would spend 405 million pounds ($514 million) to upgrade a missile system now being used by the Royal Navy to shoot down hostile drones over the Red Sea.The Sea Viper Air Defence system will be upgraded with missiles featuring a new warhead and software enabling it to counter ballistic missile threats, the MoD said in a statement.The contracts were awarded to the British division of MBDA, a missiles joint venture owned by Airbusā€¦

India Providing Escort for Ships Around the Red Sea

India's defense ministry is providing protective escorts to Indian containerships in the high seas around the Red Sea as the security situation there continues to simmer, a government source said on Friday.Containers could face delays of 14 days in their turnaround time due to taking a longer sea route around Africa which is also causing higher transport and insurance costs, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added."The cost of freight & insurance has risen due to ships being compelled to avoid the region & take a longer route.

Babcock Awarded More Dreadnought Contracts

Babcock has been awarded two further contracts for work on the UKā€™s new Dreadnought Class submarine worth a combined £121 million.The contracts include a 4.5-year £66 million contract with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide input into the development of the support solution for the UKā€™s new Dreadnought Class submarines. Damen Triton and British Royal Navy Collaborate on Remote Monitoring

Damen Digital Solutions and the British Royal Navy's innovation programme NavyX have announced a collaboration on the development of new solutions to enhance maritime operations based on the Damen Triton data platform.Damen will provide NavyX with its industry-leading Triton remote monitoring system and perform associated data collection. RH Marine to Provide Technology for New ASW Frigate Quartet Destined for Dutch, Belgian Navies

Damen Naval, a naval shipbuilding division of the Dutch Damen Shipyards Group,  has signed a contract with the first Dutch supplier for the four new Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Frigates to be built for the Dutch and Belgian Navies. Netherlands-based RH Marine will supply the Integrated Mission Management System (IMMS), the Integrated Navigation Bridge System (INBS), and the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for each of the four frigates for the Dutch and Belgian Navies.

Baltic Workboats to Build Autonomous Warships

A consortium led by Estonian shipbuilder Baltic Workboats (BWB) has won a funding of 95 million euros in the European Defence Fund competition to create a new type of naval platform for European fleets.The initiative, called EUROGUARD, aims to develop a modular and semi-autonomous surface vessel platform with a remote control system that could be used across Europe. British Navy Seizes Smuggled Iranian Weapons in Gulf

Russia suspended participation in the U.N.-brokered Black Sea grain deal after what it said was a Ukrainian drone attack on vessels in the Bay of Sevastopol in the early hours of Saturday. What do we know so far? WHAT HAPPENED? Russia said 16 air and maritime drones attacked civilian and Black Sea Fleet vessels in the Bay of Sevastopol in Crimea at 0420 Kyiv time on Saturday. Russia said all nine of the air drones were destroyed. Four of the seven maritime drones were destroyed on the outer perimeter of the bay, but three more made it inside before they were destroyed, Russia said.

Harland & Wolff to Restore HMS Quorn Mine-hunter

Harland & Wolff's Appledore site in the UK's southwest has won a £55 million (around $65 million) contract to regenerate a former Royal Navy mine-hunting vessel, HMS Quorn. "On behalf of the Lithuanian Government, the Defence Equipment Sales Authority (DESA) awarded the contract that will see HMS Quorn renovated and restored, bolstering NATO maritime capability in Europe," the UK Ministry of Defence said Thursday."Supporting ambitions to bolster British shipbuilding, laid out in the National Shipbuilding Strategy Refresh, the regeneration will support 100 jobs at the south-west shipyard.

Harland & Wolff Buys Former HMS Atherstone Mine Hunter

Harland & Wolff said Wednesday it had acquired the former HMS Atherstone mine hunter from the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) for an undisclosed fee."The former HMS Atherstone is a mine hunting class vessel that is no longer in service. The company has acquired this vessel with a view to refurbishing it for non-military uses, discussions for which have already commenced with interested parties," Harland & Wolff said.Harland & Wolff is involved in a competition run by the MOD regeneration program for the former HMS Quorn (M55).

Braemar inks deal with UK MOD

Braemar signed a seven-year contract with the UKā€™s Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide global shipbroking services across all commercial maritime sectors. US Navy to Recover F-35 Warplane that Fell into South China Sea

New Tug Enters Service at Portland Port

On September 18, Portland Port held the official naming ceremony of the newest tug to enter the fleet, the Rupert Best.It was announced earlier this year that the new tug would be arriving at Portland Port following its construction in 2019. The tug was built in Turkey to a Robert Allen design, the Sanmar Sirapinar class ā€˜RAmparts 2200ā€™ azimuth stern drive tug will improve and help support the portā€™s ability to welcome larger vessels.The multimillion-dollar tug entered service earlier this year shortly after the passing of Commander Best.
