Whether we realize it or not, robotics and robotics systems are starting to impact our daily lives. Shippers Must Reduce Costs, Boost Efficiency

Sluggish recovery from a lingering worldwide recession, unsustainable debt loads, endemic overcapacity in most shipping trades, punishing freight rates, rising costs of fuel and regulatory compliance and a lingering sense that ships are not running as efficiently as they could. Rydex Introduces Rydex Express

Rydex released of Rydex Express, a new entry-level ship-to-shore email service. "Rydex Express is our answer to the industry's demand for a value oriented email service backed by the high quality technical support and product performance that Rydex is renowned for," said Rydex CEO David Lloyd. This software is fully user installable including automatic recognition of satellite communications equipment, dramatically reducing the cost of installation. "The user-install features of Rydex Express combined with the low-cost of entry-level PC's make reliable email service an affordable option for any vessel equipped with suitable Inmarsat equipment," said Mike Antoniak, Rydex' VP of Customer Service. Rydex communications software allows users to easily manage their ship-shore email activity.

WSF Debuts Fee-Based WiFi

Beginning in late November, Washington State Ferries (WSF) and vendor Parsons Transportation Group will offer ferry customers an enhanced, fee-based wireless fidelity or Wi-Fi service. The improved service will include better connectivity on the vessels and the ability to connect while waiting at a terminal. The Edmonds/Kingston and Seattle/Bainbridge routes will have the new Wi-Fi service available in late November, followed by Mukilteo/Clinton and Seattle/Bremerton in December. The rest of the routes will come online in early 2007. “We are thrilled to partner with Parsons to improve our Wi-Fi capabilities,” says Traci Brewer-Rogstad, Director of Marine Operations for Washington State Ferries.
