U.K. Coastguard Holds Three Foreign Ships

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced today that three foreign flagged ships were under detention in U.K. ports during July 2013 after failing Port State Control (PSC) inspection. Latest monthly figures show that although there were no new detentions of foreign flagged vessels in U.K. ports during July 2013, three vessels remained under detention from previous months. They remained under detention at the end of July. The overall rate of detentions compared with inspections carried out over the last 12 months was 3% - a slight decrease from June’s 12 month rate. Two of the detained vessels were registered with a flag state listed on the Paris MOU white list. The other was unregistered. Although there were no new detentions in July, several carried over from previous months.

MCA Detains Five Vessels in June

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced today that five foreign flagged ships were under detention in U.K. ports during June 2013 after failing a Port State Control (PSC) inspection. Latest monthly figures show that there were two new detentions of foreign flagged vessels in U.K. ports during June 2013 and three vessels remained under detention from previous months. The overall rate of detentions compared with inspections carried out over the last twelve months was 3.18% this is a slight decrease from May’s twelve month rate. Three of the detained vessels were registered with a flag state listed on the Paris MOU white list, one was registered with a flag state on the grey list and one was unregistered.

Safety Alert – PROSAR Technologies

The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Safety Alert advising that it has discovered defective lifejacket lights made by PROSAR Technologies. It has also learned that PROSAR Technologies is no longer in business. The Coast Guard is canceling all approvals for PROSAR Technologies lifesaving equipment because quality control cannot be verified. PROSAR Technology equipment currently in use should be replaced as soon as practicable with approved equipment. (HK Law).

MCA Detains 14 Foreign Ships in June

The Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced that 14 foreign ships were under detention in UK ports during June 2002 after failing port state control safety inspection. Latest monthly figures show that nine foreign ships were detained in UK ports during June 2002 along with five other ships still under detention from previous months. The overall rate of detentions compared with inspections carried out over the last 12 months is 6.3 which is a decrease of 0.1% on the 12 month rate to May. The ships detained included a Norwegian flagged general cargo vessel detained at Seaham. While the crew had just completed a drill the Surveyor noticed when he arrived that the embarkation ladder was some 4 meters short.
