Marcon Sells Ocean-going Tank Barge

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington started out the New Year right with the sale of the ocean-going, combo deck / tank barge “PCC Provider” on 3rd January to Alaskan buyers. The 5,451 mtdw, 250’ x 74’ x 19’ depth barge was specifically designed by Dixon Naval Architects and built in 1999 by CSC Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China for transport of up to 6,200 short tons of limestone rock on deck and/or approx. 1,000,000 U.S. gallons of liquid slurry in 10 double-hull, cargo tanks with corrugated bulkheads, and fitted with agitator impellers, centerline piping and access tunnel. The double raked barge was heavily built with a 7/8” plate deck and 5/8” side & chine, and 3/8” bottom and fitted with twin towing skegs and a small push notch aft.

McAllister Sells Two Tugs to Port City Marine

The 4,300HP tugs Colleen McAllister (ex-Ellena Hicks, Hull 685) and Katie G. McAllister (ex-Libby Black, Hull 671) have been sold and delivered to new owners Port City Marine Services of Muskegon, Mich., reported Marcon International, Inc. Crowley Sells Ice-breaking Cargo Barge to Tagiuk

Crowley Marine Services has sold a 205’ x 90’ x 15’ former ice-strengthened, icebreaker / cargo barge, Arctic Endeavor, to Tagiuk LLC., the ship broker Marcon International, Inc. reported. The 3,029mtdw barge was built in 1982 by Gunderson Bros. to support resupply sailings to ports in the Arctic while being pushed by two 2,100HP Point-Class tugs. The barge was unique in having a wide spoon shaped bow tapering aft from 90’ at its widest point at frame 25, a tapered hull under the waterline and a reinforced ice step. The Arctic Endeavor was converted in 1999 by Duwamish Shipyard to an ABS +A1, ice classed, double-hull oil response barge for use in the Beaufort Sea, northeast of Deadhorse, Alaska. The barge was laid up in Puget Sound at the time of the sale.

Foss Maritime Sells U.S. Flag Tug

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington informed the sale of the 1,700BHP “Benjamin Foss” by Foss Maritime Company of Seattle, Washington to private U.S. interests. The 78.0’ x 26.3’ x 11.0’ depth x 9.7’ draft, tug was built in 1980 by Main Iron Works of Houma, Louisiana as Hull 352 - the first in a series of seven “Super D” class, advanced, medium size tugs contracted in 1979. The low-profile tugs were built for PacTow, a Dillingham Maritime Company, and Foss Maritime, also a subsidiary of Dillingham in the 1980s, as a larger, enhanced version of the popular 1,200HP, 66’ “D” class boats built in the mid-1960s. After delivery from the shipyard, “Benjamin Foss” remained in the U.S.

Scripps Sells Oceanographic Research Vessel

Purpose-built oceanographic research and survey vessel New Horizon has been sold from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography to private interests, announced ship broker Marcon International, Inc. New Horizon will continue to work under her new ownership as a U.S. flag research and survey vessel. The 170' loa x 36' beam x 15' depth / 12.76' draft New Horizon was specially built as a dedicated oceanographic research ship for Scripps, whose research vessels and research platform make up one of the largest academic fleets in the world.

Crowley Marine Services, Inc. has sold a second sister-tug of the Point Class to Island Tug & Barge Co., Marcon International, Inc. reported. The sale of the ABS +A1, Towing, +AMS classed, 2,100BHP shallow draft ocean towing / push tug Pt. Oliktok mirrors the transaction which Marcon brokered in 2013 between the two parties on the sister vessel ex-Pt. Barrow. Former ‘Google Barge’ Sold

After concluding two 3,500HP tug sales on December 30, Marcon International Inc. has started 2015 with three ocean barge sales, and hopes to report on several additional sales before the end of this month. Five 4,500-6,000HP tugs, one 5,150BHP AHTS and two 3,200 – 5,500dwt ocean barges continue to be fixed on previously arranged long-term charters. The most recent transaction is the purchase by private U.S. West Coast Buyers of the former “Google barge JMC 262” (ex-BAL0001, CIB 721) from Cashman Equipment Corp.

Crewboat Sold to European Buyers‏

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington infomred that Tidewater Marine International Inc. has sold their 41.2m x 8.2m x 3.5m depth / 2.38m draft, high-speed, aluminum crew / supply vessel “Patrice Tide” to private European operators. Built by Breaux Brothers Enterprises, Inc. of Loreauville, Louisiana in 2002, the vessel is powered by four 1,007bkW Cummins KTA 38M2 diesels totaling 5,400BHP driving four 44” x 46” fixed pitch props. This produces a speed range of 15 – 30kn on abt. 100 – 260gph, and range of abt. 1,721nm at economical speed. Vessel’s maneuverability is enhanced by a 150HP tunnel bow thruster. The 233.7mtdw, Vanuatu-flagged vessel has a deck cargo capacity of abt. 182.9mt on a 22.9 x 7.0m, 1.9t/m2 clear deck aft and a total of 72 persons on board.

Marcon Sells 3,900BHP Tug Overseas

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington announced the sale of the 3,900BHP, U.S. flag twin screw tug Maria Brusco (ex-Ocean Service) from a U.S. owner to private overseas buyers for transfer to registry under foreign flag. The 127’ x 32’ x 14’ depth tug was originally built in 1967 by Burton Shipyard Inc. in Port Arthur, Texas as Hull 404 for International Bulk Transport of Wilmington, Delaware and operated for Sonat Marine of Philadelphia towing petroleum barges coastwise. The tug underwent a major reconstruction in 1987 under her previous ownership.

300th Tug Brokered by Marcon Int'l

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington reported the sale of the U.S. flag, twin screw tug “Pacific Patriot” (ex-Pacific King) from Kirby Marine Offshore to U.S. West Coast buyers on private terms. This was the 300th tug brokered by Marcon and 1,351st sale or charter since the sale of the vintage and some would say very “classic” 1950s built, 135’ supply boat “Low Tide” from Tidewater in the early 1980s. Built in 1980 by Main Iron Works in Bayou Blue, Louisiana, the 1,700BHP “Pacific Patriot” measures 77’ x 26.5’ x 11’ depth of hull and is powered by twin CAT D398SCACs driving fixed pitch propellers in kort nozzles, developing a bollard pull of 26.4 tons and free running speed of 12kn.

Marcon Brokers Sale of Ocean-Going Tugboat

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington, says it has sold the U.S. flag ocean-going twin screw tug "Melvin E. Lemmerhirt" to U.S. buyers on a private & confidential basis. The 3,900BHP tug was built in 1973 for Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. as one of the company's largest tugs by Southern Shipbuilding of Slidell, Louisianaas Hull No. 102. Southern Ship always had a reputation of building fine tugs, building their first in 1903. The shipyard was originally established by Fritz Salmen in the 1880s, becoming Slidell Shipbuilding in 1914 and Canulette Shipbuilding in 1919. After passing through several hands, it was renamed Southern Shipbuilding in 1957. The yard was eventually closed and the site razed in 1993.

Brokers Marcon Conclude Ocean Deck Barge Sale

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington says that Pacific Coast Maritime, Inc., Seattle, Washington, a subsidiary of Harley Marine Services, Seattle, has concluded the sale of its 240’ ABS ocean deck barge “HML 240-2” (ex-Aqua 242, MK-242, Foss 242) to Island Tug & Barge Co. also of Seattle. Marcon International explain that the 240’ x 60’x 16’ flat deck barge was originally built by Todd Shipyards Corp. of Houston, Texas for Foss Maritime in 1967, and acquired by Pacific Coast Maritime, Inc. in 2000 as the “Aqua 242”.

Time Charter of DP-1 Research Vessel Fixed

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington reported that Stabbert Maritime of Seattle has time chartered the U.S. flag, DP-1, research vessel Ocean Pioneer (ex: Seabulk Montana, Montana, Seabulk Montana, Indian Seal) to FMC Technology of Davis, California. The 205' x 40' x 17' depth vessel was built in 1974 by Burton Shipyard in Port Arthur, Texas for Seal Fleet of Galveston, Texas and acquired by Hvide Marine, Inc. in 1996, along with seven other offshore supply boats. Hvide reorganized in 2001 and was renamed Seabulk International.

Main Iron Works Built Tug Returning Home

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington reported that the 5,570BHP tug Jabbar has been sold by Awal Marine Services of Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain to TradeWinds Towing LLC of Saint Augustine, Florida. Jabbar, meaning “powerful” or “tremendous” in Arabic, was originally built by Main Iron Works of Houma, Louisiana as their Hull 335 for McAllister Towing & Transportation of New York. The twin screw tug was operated by International Tug Service, a joint venture company between McAllister and Arabian American Oil Co. Ltd.

Marcon Broker Tugboat Sale a Second Time

Stevens Towing of Charleston, South Carolina has sold their U.S flag, twin screw tug “Island Fox” (ex Pt. Brower, Arctic Knight, Arctic Fox) to private foreign buyers. Marcon International, Inc. adds that they acted as broker for the sellers, to whom Marcon sold the vessel in 2006 from the West Coast. The 85’ x 30’ x 11’ depth tug was built in 1981 at Dakota Creek Shipyard in Anacortes, Washington as the “Arctic Fox” for Bering Marine of Seattle. It was originally designed and built as a versatile boat for working both in the rough, cold coastal waters and the shallow rivers of Alaska.

Tow Fixed By Marcon Completes 5,233nm Delivery

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington reported that after 52 days, the 2,800BHP twin screw tug Miss Lis (ex-Kari A, Marine Pioneer) successfully completed the 5,233nm tow of the ocean crane barge Thomas W from Long Beach, California through the Panama Canal to the Hudson River in New York. The 225’ x 78’ x 15’ depth, ABS +A1 Ocean crane barge, outfitted with a 400T Whirley with a 150’ boom, and laden with three smaller flat deck barges, was destined for the new Tappan Zee Bridge Project in New York.

Two Crewboats Sold to Mexico

Marcon International Inc. reported the sale of two 105’ x 22’ x 8’ depth, aluminum crew boats by a private U.S. Owner to Mexican buyers. The triple screw, sister-vessels were built in 1981 and 1982 by Swiftships, Inc. in Lafitte, Louisiana. Both are powered by three turbocharged GM 12V71TI diesels, generating a total of 1,530BHP at 2,100RPM, which propels the boats at a speed of 20 – 25kn. Capacities include about 34 LT of cargo on an open 43’ x 17’ cargo deck aft, 2,400g fuel and 1,000g fresh water.

75-Ton Bollard Pull ASD Chartered Long Term

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington announced the long-term bareboat charter of a 2011 built 5,364BHP ocean ASD tug on a private and confidential basis. The 32.0m x 11.6m x 5.4m tug was built in 2011 and is classed Lloyds Register + 100A1 Tug LMC, FiFi 1. Powered by a pair of CAT 3516Bs driving stern mounted Schottel SRP1515FP azimuthing props, the tug is capable of 75 metric tons of bollard pull and a free running speed of about 13 knots. The tug will be employed docking ships in Latin America. Marcon acted as sole broker in this charter and the second charter which we have arranged for this tug in the region. Marcon currently has two other 65-ton bollard ASD tugs fixed on long-term charters in Latin America.

Marcon International Brokers 3,000-hp Tugboat Sale

After 6 months of charter Marigny Tug LLC of St. Augustine, Florida has closed on the purchase of the U.S. flag tugboat “Leslie Foss”. Prior to the sale, the twin-screw, sheer bow, ocean tug “Leslie Foss” (ex-Caribe Pioneer) had been on charter from Foss Maritime of Seattle, Washington. This is the second tug sale that Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington has brokered to the Buyer. The new owners are in the process of renaming the tug “Simone”, after one of the principal’s oldest daughters.
