Mesa Verde Commissioned Newest Navy Ship

Sampson Set to Join Fleet
Sailors man the rails aboard guided-missile destroyer USS Sampson (DDG 102) during a rehearsal for the ship's commissioning ceremony. Sampson is the 52nd of 62 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, and is named for Rear Adm. William T. Sampson (1840-1902), a naval hero during the Spanish-American War. USS Kidd Arrives in San Diego
Just hours before her commissioning, the newest Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Kidd sits pierside at the Port of Galveston. Designated hull number DDG 100, the new destroyer honors Medal of Honor recipient Rear Adm. Isaac Campbell Kidd Sr. who was killed on the bridge of his flagship USS Arizona on Dec. 7, 1941. Two granddaughters of Rear Adm. Kidd, Regina Kidd Wolbarsht and Mary Corrinne Kidd Plumer, brought the ship named for their grandfather to life. The newest USS Kidd is the 50th ship in the Arleigh Burke class of guided-missile destroyers. Cmdr. Richard E.
