Volvo Cars Switches to Biofuels for Ocean Freight

Volvo Cars has announced that it is switching delivery of its production material to container ships using renewable biofuel.The company will use renewable fuel for inbound ocean container transport of production material destined for manufacturing plants based in Europe and the Americas, as well as all spare parts distribution made globally by ocean container transport.Volvo Cars says that it is the first global car maker to announce such a switch which will achieve an immediate reduction in fossil CO2 emissions from intercontinental ocean freight by 55,000 tonnes a year.

Over the last few months, the inland waterways system has been particularly stressed by both emergency and Mother Nature-inflicted outages at key locks and dams. Mammoet to do Heavy Lifting for Sasol Project

Westlake, Louisiana - Mammoet, the world’s largest service provider specializing in engineered heavy lifting and transport, has been awarded an important contract by Sasol for its new ethane cracker and derivatives complex. Sasol’s new facilities, which will be built adjacent to its existing site near Westlake, Louisiana, are one of the largest projects on the Gulf Coast. The new ethane cracker will have an impressive annual production capacity of 1.5 million tons of ethylene feeding six chemical manufacturing plants. The facility is expected to be commissioned in 2018. The contract awarded to Mammoet comprises all of the heavy lift and transport engineering, receiving modules and oversized equipment from domestic and overseas yards, transporting the cargo to site and all major lift work.

Sixth Season of Hudson River Dredging Begins

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Judith A. Enck announced the start of the sixth, and final, season of dredging of PCB-contaminated sediments from the bottom of the Hudson River. The historic dredging project – one of the largest and most complex cleanups in Superfund history – began in 2009. The EPA is overseeing the dredging project that is being conducted by General Electric Company (GE) under the terms of a 2006 legal agreement. According to GE, the company has invested more than $1 billion on the cleanup project to date.

The contract, executed through Crowley’s Carib Energy subsidiary, includes the fuel supply and transportation of LNG, helping the customer yield lowered emissions and an alternative to their current fuel source, diesel. Crowley’s Carib Energy has been awarded a multi-year contract to supply containerized, U.S.-sourced Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to its first industrial customer, Coca-Cola Puerto Rico Bottlers in Cayey and Club Caribe in Cidra, both wholly owned subsidiaries of CC1 Companies, LLC. The contract, executed through Crowley’s Carib Energy subsidiary, includes the fuel supply and transportation of LNG to two of the manufacturer’s plants in Cayey and Cidra, Puerto Rico, which will provide both facilities with substantially lowered emissions and an alternative to their current fuel source, diesel.

Industry majors, Gamesa and Areva, have announced exclusive negotiations to create a 50/50 joint-venture company in the field of offshore wind power. The principals consider that the offshore market represents one of the most promising areas for the development of renewable energies over the next decade, particularly in the coastal countries of northern Europe, where the installed base should reach over 25 GW by 2020, and in Asia. India Plans Expansion of Auto Exports

Ennore Port Limited (EPL), Chennai and Ford India Private Limited have signed an agreement for export of Ford cars though the Ennore port for a period of 10 years. Speaking on the occasion the Union Minister for Shipping Shri G.K. Vasan said that this is a part of series of initiatives by the UPA government for attracting investments in the infrastructure sector, particularly in ports and automobile sectors. The agreement provides for various volume based discounts on wharfage by EPL ranging from5-30% to encourage more exports through EPL. Ford India Private Limited has set up a modern integrated manufacturing facility at Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai, for export of their automobile products.

Aker Solutions Awarded Troll extension

International oil service group Aker Solutions has been awarded a contract by Statoil to deliver three subsea trees, tubing hangers and a tool package to the Troll field on the Norwegian continental shelf. Estimated contract value is NOK 250 million. The extension is a call-off from a contract signed with Statoil in February 2012. The spare tubing hangers will be utilized on several parts of the Troll field. The Troll field is the world's biggest subsea development with regards to the number of subsea wells. Last year, Aker Solutions reached a major milestone in delivering the 100th subsea tree to the Troll field. The Troll contract awards and deliveries have helped shape and develop Aker Solutions' subsea business.
