Pertamina Shipping Unit to Spend $4 Billion on Fleet Upgrades
Indonesia's state oil company Pertamina's new unit, Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), is looking to spend $4 billion in the next seven years to refurbish its fleet of vessels and upgrade terminals, a top official said on Friday.The new unit plans to replace 23 vessels and expand its fleet, to ensure compliance with the latest International Maritime Organization standards and eventually serve other regional companies, said its director of business planning, Wisnu Medan Santoso."There are many oil and gas players in ASEAN who do not have their own shipping arm, we see this as an opportunity," Wisnu told Reuters, referring to countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations."We have a large captive cargo, we have a large economy of scale.

Swiber Reports Profitable First Half 2013
Singapore's Swiber Holdings construction & support services providers to the offshore oil and gas industry, reported that net profit in the half year ended June 30, 2013 rose 11.8% to US$37.4 million from US$33.5 million in the half year ended June 30, 2012. Commented Mr. Francis Wong, Group Chief Executive Officer and President of Swiber, âThe first half of this year has seen Swiber making strides in several ways. Notably, Swiber won several quality projects amounting to US$570 million to-date.
OAA 2013 Are Open for Entries
Following a successful re-launch last year, the Society of Petroleum Engineers Aberdeen Section is again hosting the Offshore Achievement Awards with the support of main sponsor TAQA Bratani. This year will see the ceremony move to the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre to meet the huge demand for spaces at the event in March 2012. Over 70 entries were received for the 2012 awards, which took place at Ardoe House Hotel in Aberdeen in front of around 400 people. Winners included Expro Group, AMEC and 3sun Group, with Professor Alex Kemp picking up the Lifetime Achievement award.
Fabricom Awarded North Sea Contract by EnQuest Britain Ltd
Newcastle-based facilities engineering company, Fabricom Offshore Services, announced that it has been awarded a major contract valued at more than £1million by EnQuest Britain Ltd, one of the UKâs leading independent oil and gas players. Fabricom is to support Aberdeen-based EnQuest in undertaking a significant programme of modifications and upgrades as part of a project to extend the operating life of the Thistle Alpha platform, which is located 275 miles north-north east of Aberdeen. The work is part of EnQuestâs Late Life Extension (LLX) strategy. To execute this work, Fabricom will use a team of engineers from its engineering office in Newcastle.
Singapore's Swiber Win Major Offshore Contracts
These awards include offshore construction projects and vessel chartering services in the Asia Pacific region. In addition, it has received a letter of award (âLOAâ) through its JV Company to charter out a spread of support vessels in the Middle East. Swiberâs contract wins in the Asia Pacific region include projects for engineering, procurement, and installation of pipelines, umbilicals, and subsea systems; and transportation and installation of wellhead structures and associated pipelines. In addition, the Group will provide vessel chartering services in the region. Work for these projects will commence immediately this year and will carry on into 2014.
Deadline Looms to Apply for Subsea Tech Funding
ITF is calling on technology developers to come forward with innovative solutions to drilling, well intervention and subsea challenges, with the potential for successful proposals to receive up to 100% funding. Submission deadlines are fast approaching for three global calls for proposals, following the identification of key priorities at a series of Technology Challenge Workshops (TCWs) by ITF members earlier this year. The calls for drilling and well intervention solutions follows on from two workshops held in Amsterdam earlier this year, where a number of operators and service companies identified the shared challenges where they would like to see innovative technologies developed.
SapuraCrest, Ramunia Awarded Contracts
Two oil and gas players, SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd and Ramunia Holdings Bhd, announced major contracts related to the industry worth $120 million and $24 million respectively. SapuraCrest said its 51%-owned unit Tioman Drilling Co Sdn Bhd had been awarded a contract from Carigali-Triton Operating Co Sdn Bhd (CTOC) for the provision of two drilling unitsâ Teknik Berkat and a new mobile drilling vessel, known as T-10 â to CTOC. Tioman is a joint venture between SapuraCrest and Norway's Smedvig group. SapuraCrest, through its 51%-owned subsidiary Crest Tender Rigs Pte Ltd, has awarded a contract worth $48.8 million to Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd to construct T-10.
