SCG Opts for Castor 4G Package on 30 Ships

Shipping Company Groningen (SCG) has contracted offshore internet services provider Castor Marine to install its Global 4G Connectivity package on all 30 of its vessels. With this, the coasters will have a fast, global 4G-LTE internet connection for its crews. On its fleet, SCG offers its personnel a Crew Welfare Zone with free internet within the 12-mile (4G) zone. To realize this, SCG wanted a plug-and-play, cost-efficient system that is always operational and doesn’t interfere with the crew’s activities.To make this happen

Stolt Tankers Expands Partnership with Marlink

Maritime connectivity and IT solutions provider Marlink said it has signed a new service agreement with Stolt Tankers, extending a partnership between the two companies that began in 2011.Under the new agreement, Marlink will provide Stolt Tankers’ fleet of 83 chemical and parcel tankers with a bandwidth upgrade, enabling even greater digitalization of its operations. The package includes version 5.0 of Marlink’s XChange communications management system, which will deliver greater efficiency in IT management processes as well as reinforced cyber security

In a show of prototypes, a pod of unmanned sailboats from around the world competes to cross “The Atlantic” test tank in Horten, Norway. Cross the real ocean, and the Sail Bots race similarly challenges scholarly robotic-vessel designers to North America for a bit of station-keeping, collision-avoidance and “cargo moves”. Kongsberg's K-IMS Passes 100 LNG Installations

MOL Makes Fleet-wide Migration to Fleet Xpress

26 July 2016: Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT.L), the leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services, has announced that its partner JSAT MOBILE Communications has signed an agreement with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), one of the world’s largest shipping companies, to introduce the newly-launched Fleet Xpress service across the majority of its car carrier fleet. Sea IT Inks ICT Deal with Veritas Tankers

Sea IT has signed a long-term ICT agreement with Veritas Tankers including installation of the BlueCLOUD Office platform at Veritas Tankers’ headquarters. BlueCLOUD Office is a cloud-based solution which fully integrates the fleet and the office communication as a one-stop-shop. BlueCLOUD Office is a dynamic service that enables Veritas Tankers management to instant access where they can easily add and remove users or change user rights. Besides BlueCLOUD Office, Veritas Tankers also benefit from the module BlueCONNECT, a virtual software that acts as mail server and carrier controller. Sea IT has previously entered a Fixed BlueCORE ICT agreement with Veritas Tankers to upgrade all its vessels - Astina, Astral and Astoria - during a three-year period.

KVH Expands mini-VSAT Broadband Network

KVH Industries, Inc. expanded the capacity of its mini-VSAT Broadband network with two upgrades recently, supporting growing customer demand for broadband at sea. One expansion added a new satellite beam that doubled the mini-VSAT Broadband network capacity in the North Atlantic Ocean region, including Canada’s Hudson Bay. The second expansion added a new beam across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to add 30 percent more capacity across areas such as the North Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

Intellian FleetBroadband Terminals for 38 Containerships

Intellian has won the contract to supply Hanjin Shipping of South Korea, with FleetBroadband FB500 terminals for a fleet of 38 container ships. The installation process has already commenced and will be completed by Intellian over the coming months as the ships arrive into port. The FB500 is the largest of Intellian's FleetBroadband product range and provides the fastest and most cost-effective FleetBroadband service available. Orange Joins EU Cloud-based Ship Management Initiative

Orange Business Services informs it has joined a European Union-sponsored initiative developing a cloud-based ERP platform for the maritime shipping industry. The platform will make it easier to manage ships at sea, improve safety and tighten business operations. This technology is a first of its kind in this space. Orange explains that as part of the EIS (“Exzellenzinitiative Schiffsmanagement”) initiative, Orange Business Services will be the sole provider for ship-to-shore, vessel-based and land-based communication infrastructure.

CMA CGM Add New VSAT Services from Marlink

Marlink has been chosen by the CMA CGM Group, the world’s third largest container shipping group, to upgrade the majority of its fleet to WaveCall, Marlink’s standardized Ku-band VSAT service. In combination with the XChange solutions platform from Astrium Services, WaveCall will be installed on over 35 CMA CGM vessels, including the CMA CGM Marco Polo, CMA CGM Alexander Von Humboldt and CMA CGM Jules Verne, one of the largest container vessels in the world. New SatCom Test Deliver 50 Mbps to Superyachts

VT iDirect announce that OmniAccess S.L., communications provider to superyacht & megayacht owners, has successfully launched a live satellite communications network built on iDirect's latest iDX 3.2 software and incorporating the high-performance X7 remote.
