WAGO Names New PR Coordinator

WAGO announced Barry Nelson is the newest addition to its Marketing Communications team. Nelson will take the reins as the company’s public relations coordinator overseeing publicity, editorial content, social media and other written material.Nelson received his bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with an emphasis on radio/TV/film. He brings to the role a background in media, including news anchoring and sports play-by-play on WTMJ and ESPN radio in Milwaukee.

Carnival to Sponsor ‘The New Celebrity Apprentice’

Carnival Corporation & plc announced it will sponsor the two-part finale of the upcoming season of NBC’s “The New Celebrity Apprentice” airing next year on February 6 and 13. The sponsorship also features Carnival Corporation launching the Celebrity Apprentice Charity Challenge, supporting the charities chosen by the celebrity contestants while driving consumer engagement with the show. “The New Celebrity Apprentice” premieres on January 2 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC. DYT Yacht Transport Carries M/V OCEARCH

The 126-foot research vessel M/V OCEARCH is currently making its way from Port Everglades, Florida to Brisbane, Australia on board DYT Yacht Transport’s semisubmersible ship 686’ flagship Yacht Express. The research vessel is the namesake of the nonprofit organization OCEARCH, which is globally recognized for its work in the field of ocean sustainability. DYT has partnered with the organization to support its study of sharks and other large predators that are essential to the future of the marine ecosystem.

Will an Unsteady Ship Affect Superbowl XLVIII?

With the Superbowl around the corner, unusual maritime ties may play a role in the big game between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. As part of the press events leading up to Superbowl XLVIII, the Broncos held press conferences Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday aboard a 210-foot luxury cruise liner docked in the Hudson River outside the team’s hotel in Jersey City, N.J. On Wednesday and Thursday, in particular, the ship, Cornucopia Majesty, was very unsteady as it rocked from its moorings and raised some reports of seasickness while players and coaches conducted interviews.

NASSTRAC Sets Agenda for 2013 Conference Expo

The National Shippers Strategic Transportation Council, NASSTRAC, announces agenda for 2013 Shippers Conference & Transportation Expo. This event, which is developed specifically for the education and networking needs of transportation and supply chain executives with manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers and distributors, will take place April 21-24, 2013 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando. This year's conference will feature more than 25 educational sessions that cover relevant topics on transportation that range from economic freight indicators and perspectives of carrier challenges from CEOs in all modes to advocacy issues such as hours of service and CSA.

SUNY Maritime College Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner

State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College’s annual Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, on the College’s Throgs Neck, Bronx, New York campus. The event will begin at 6:00 pm with a cocktail hour, followed by the awards dinner at 7 pm in Vander Clute Hall. During the Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner, SUNY Maritime College will salute two Maritime graduates, Mark Barker, president, The Interlake Steamship Company, Cleveland, Ohio as well asThomas Merrell, president, General Dynamics, American Overseas Marine (AMSEA), in Quincy, Mass. The chemical tanker owner, BLT Chembulk Group  headquartered in Southport, Conn., will also be honored that evening.

SUNY Maritime Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner

On Tuesday, May 5th, at 6:00 pm, the State University of New York Maritime College will salute the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Kirby Inland Marine and Professor Emeritus William Sembler, ’52 at the College’s annual Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner. The event will be held on the college’s waterfront campus in Throgs Neck, New York. ESPN Sailing Analyst and former America’s Cup sailor Gary Jobson will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the event. ABS is an international classification society devoted to promoting the security of life, property and the marine environment through the development and verification of standards for the design, construction and operational maintenance of marine-related facilities. Schooner to be Christened in VA

On Friday, Dec. 10 the Pilot Schooner Virginia will be christened on the downtown Norfolk waterfront. Many of the state's elected officials, local civic, business and political leaders, representatives of the maritime community, students from local schools and contributors to the project will be among the thousands on hand to witness the momentous event. Additionally, those attending the ceremony will hear from two of the nation's most distinguished sailors: Capt. Bill Pinkney, USN retired and Gary Jobson, known as the nation's pre-eminent sailing ambassador. Furthermore, Gov. Mark Warner and his wife, Lisa Collins-Warner, who has been asked to officially sponsor the vessel, have been invited.

Battleship New Jersey Appoints New Trustees

The Home Port Alliance for the USS New Jersey, America's most decorated battleship, together with Troy Collins, CEO of the Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial, announce the appointment of six new members to the Board of Trustees. Co-chaired by John Matheussen, CEO of the Delaware River Port Authority and Patricia Egan Jones, Camden County Surrogate, the Board, established in 1998 to facilitate the Battleship's return to its permanent berth on the Delaware River's Camden Waterfront across from Center City Philadelphia, has spearheaded the ship's massive restoration and new life as a living, breathing history classroom and signature waterfront attraction for veterans, patriots, families and students from around the world.
