SCI Appoints New Ohio River Chaplain

The Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) has appointed the Rev. Kempton D. Baldridge to serve as its new Ministry on the River (MOR) chaplain, serving the Ohio River region, effective June 1. Based from SCI’s Paducah, Ky. Center for Maritime Education, Chaplain Baldridge will serve mariners along the Ohio River plus river regions surrounding Nashville, St. Louis, and Memphis. In addition to his direct care for mariners and their shore-side counterparts, Chaplain Baldridge strengthens a network of River Friendly Churches who partner with SCI to provide ministry to mariners.

Crowley Recognized as a Reader's Choice Carrier in Logistics Management

Crowley Liner Services, a subsidiary of Crowley Maritime Corporation and part of its liner segment, has been named a Readers' Choice carrier in Logistics Management magazine's 19th Annual Quest for Quality survey, the results of which were published in the magazine's August edition. Crowley was rated as the top ocean carrier serving Central America and the Caribbean and was ranked No. 4 in the world, after some 3,000 magazine readers, all of whom buy transportation or third party services, completed the questionnaire mailed earlier this year. Areas surveyed include on-time performance, value, information technology, customer service and equipment and operations. and ranked No. 1 overall in equipment and operations and No. 3 overall in customer service.

Tiger Woods Comes Out at Yacht Builder

A federal court in Miami has ruled that golfer Tiger Woods’ lawsuit against Christensen Shipyards, Ltd. will proceed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and that an order enjoining Christensen from the unauthorized use of Woods’ name or photographs of his boat will remain in place. Woods filed his rights-of-publicity suit against Christensen last October in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The suit alleges that the luxury yacht manufacturer, based in Vancouver, improperly used Mr. Woods’ name, his wife’s name, and photographs of a yacht built for Woods in connection with the advertising and marketing of Christensen’s products. Mr. Woods also seeks injunctive relief from Christensen.
