Seabourn - Newest Ultra Luxury Yacht

The Yachts of Seabourn has announced its next ultra-luxury yacht, to be named Seabourn Sojourn in a ceremony in London in June 2010, before sailing on its 14 day Maiden Voyage. The sleek new vessel is being built in Italy, and will position from Genoa to London before its inauguration. "London has always been a great destination for our Seabourn yachts," noted Seabourn president and CEO Pamela Conover. "We have earned a large and loyal following of repeat cruise guests from the UK, and we are proud to debut our beautiful new vessel in London". Sailing from Greenwich, ports of call on its Maiden Voyage include the Faroe Islands, Iceland and the Norwegian Fjords. Fares and detailed itineraries will be announced in February 2009.

Queen to Name QM2

Cunard is delighted to confirm that Her Majesty The Queen will name the company's new flagship Queen Mary 2 at a ceremony to take place in Southampton, England, on Thursday, January 8, 2004. Her Majesty will be accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. The launch will be a milestone in British maritime history and will be a major event of worldwide interest. According to Pamela Conover, president of Cunard Line: "This will be an historic occasion in the true sense of the word. The Queen honoured Cunard by launching our current flagship QE2 in 1967, and we are delighted Her Majesty has agreed to do the same for our next transatlantic liner, Queen Mary 2.

Charities to Benefit from QM2

Cunard will sponsor charitable benefits in Southampton, England, and Fort Lauderdale in celebration of the January 12 Maiden Voyage ofQueen Mary 2, the largest ocean liner ever built. Among the beneficiaries are the U.K.-based Lord's Taverners and Miami City Ballet, New World Symphony and Winterfest, based in South Florida. QM2 Accident Claims 15 Lives

French prosecutors have begun investigating Saturday’s shipyard accident on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 that has left 15 dead and at least 32 injured after a gangway collapsed in Saint Nazaire in France. It is said that an inquiry will examine the cause of the gangway that collapsed when families of the ship workers were visiting the vessel. The collapse of the walkway caused victims to fall some 80 feet to the concrete of the drydock. Reports are indicating that the temporary 30-ft. walkway connecting the quayside of the ship was constructed by the French firm, Endel.

QM2 Delivered

Cunard officially took delivery today of Queen Mary 2 -- the largest (151,400 tons), longest (1,132 feet/345 metres), tallest (236 feet/72 metres), widest (135 feet/41 metres) and most expensive ($800 million) ocean liner ever built. Queen Mary 2 is the first true transatlantic liner to have been built since the line's legendary Queen Elizabeth 2 entered service in May 1969. The historic ceremony at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard here included the symbolic changing of the flag where the Blue ensign and the Cunard house flag -- a gold lion rampant on a red background -- were raised.

Master of QM2 Named Commodore

Captain Ronald Warwick, master of Cunard Line's new Queen Mary 2, has been awarded the rank of commodore, the highest position a cruise line can bestow on one of its captains. The announcement was made December 26, 2003, as Queen Mary 2 was welcomed to Southampton - her British home port - for the very first time. "I am pleased to make this appointment, which recognises Ron Warwick's long and distinguished career with this great company," said Pamela Conover, Cunard's president and chief operating officer. Queen Mary 2 is the first ocean liner to be built in over three decades. Natansohn Named Seabourn President

Deborah L. Natansohn has been named president of Seabourn Cruise Line. A well-known industry veteran, Natansohn most recently was senior vice president of sales and marketing for Cunard Line Ltd., where she spearheaded the launch of the celebrated Queen Mary 2 and the rebranding of the venerable line. Natansohn's appointment is part of a corporate restructuring in which the ultra luxury, all-suite Yachts of Seabourn will operate as an independent brand within the Carnival Corporation. Previously, Seabourn shared back-office functions with sister brand, Cunard Line, which is relocating to Valencia, California. Seabourn will remain based in Miami. Fincantieri to Construct New Liner for British Market

Queen Mary 2 Commences Production With First Steel Cut

Pamela Conover, Cunard Line's president and COO, will make history today when she presses the button to start the cutting of the first steel for Queen Mary 2 - the largest, longest, widest, tallest and most expensive passenger ship ever. Queen Mary 2, the first liner to be built in over three decades, will enter service in January 2004 and will be the fastest passenger ship built since QE2 entered service in 1969. Constructed by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France, birthplace of such famous liners as Normandie, France (now Norway) and Ile de France, the 150,000-ton QM2 is destined to become the benchmark by which all other passenger ships will be judged.

Pimentel Steps Down From Top Post At Cunard Line

Carnival Corp. announced the resignation of Larry Pimentel, president and CEO of its Cunard Line Limited unit. Pamela Conover, COO of Cunard, has been given the additional title of president and will replace Pimentel as head of the luxury cruise operator. Both management changes are effective immediately. Pimentel has served at the helm of Cunard Line, which is comprised of both the Cunard and Seabourn cruise brands, since 1998, when the Miami-based combined entity was formed, following Carnival Corp.'s acquisition of Cunard. Prior to that he spent six years as president and COO of Seabourn Cruise Line, formerly based in San Francisco. Pimentel resigned for personal reasons, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.

Queen Mary 2 Celebrates Keel

Cunard Line celebrated a milestone when a prefabricated section of the keel was lowered into the building dock of Queen Mary 2. The new $800-million Cunard flagship will enter service in January 2004 and will be the largest, longest, tallest and most expensive passenger ship ever built. QE2 Scores 92 On Latest Inspection

Cunard Line's flagship Queen Elizabeth 2 received a score of 92 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Vessel Sanitation Program. A satisfactory score is 86. The vessel, which was inspected yesterday in Honolulu, Hawaii, had received a failing score earlier this month from the CDC due to defiencies that were then immediately rectified by the line. According to Pamela Conover, Cunard's president, "As the world's foremost luxury liner it is important that QE2 meets or exceeds all government standards and we will continue to do so with vigilance." Cunard's 1,791-passenger QE2 is currently on her World Cruise, which began in New York January 5 and will end there April 23. The ship departs Honolulu today for Papeete, Tahiti.

Cunard Names New Ship Queen Victoria

Cunard Line will name its new 85,000-ton cruise ship Queen Victoria, in dedication to the British cruise market. The new ship, which is scheduled to enter service in 2005, will be the second largest Cunard ship carrying 1,968 passengers. Together with the current flagship, Queen Elizabeth 2, and Queen Mary 2, the Cunard fleet will include three Queens for the first time. Currently being built at Italy’s Fincantieri shipyard, Queen Victoria will enter service in the company’s 165th anniversary and will operate round-trip Southampton cruises to the Mediterranean, Canaries, Northern Europe as well as cruises to the Caribbean. The vessel will feature a covered wrap-around promenade deck, a forward-facing observation lounge, and a large Lido pool with a retractable magrodome.

Cunard Fleet to Feature Three Queens

For the first time in its long history Cunard Line will operate three luxury liners named for British monarchs. In 2005, the line's fleet will consist of the legendary Queen Elizabeth 2, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria. The 668-passenger Caronia will leave the fleet in November 2004, having been sold to the UK-based Saga Group. "With our three Queens, Cunard will truly have the most famous ocean liners in the world, offering luxury amenities, our unique Queens Grill and our signature White Star Service," according to Pamela Conover, Cunard's president. "Caronia will continue to play an important role in the fleet through the fall of 2004.
