Head of Major Russian Shipyard Dies Suddenly, No Cause Given

A major Russian shipyard that specializes in building non-nuclear submarines said its general director had died suddenly on Saturday after 11 years in the job, but gave no details.Admiralty Shipyards, based in the western port of St Petersburg, announced the death of Alexander Buzakov in a statement. Royal Caribbean Flags Slow Summer Demand in Europe as Ukraine Crisis Weighs

Royal Caribbean Group on Thursday flagged slow summer demand for European cruises due to the Ukraine crisis, after a dull first quarter as it reeled under a resurgence in COVID infections in some parts of the world.Shares of the cruise operator fell about 5% to $73.87 after Royal Caribbean Group said higher fuel and food costs, spurred by inflationary and supply chain-related challenges, are expected to weigh on 2022 earnings.The company said while bookings for Europe sailings improved throughout the first quarter, they slowed following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in late February.

Royal Caribbean Joins Rivals Canceling Sailings to Russia

Cruise operators Royal Caribbean Group and Viking Cruises canceled sailings to Russia on Wednesday, joining their rivals and many Western brands in suspending operations in the country after its invasion of Ukraine.Celebrity Cruises, owned by Royal Caribbean, said it was removing Russian port city St. Petersburg from upcoming itineraries, adding that it would visit other Scandinavian ports in its place.Silversea Cruises also said it would re-route summer voyages scheduled to stop in Russia and Ukraine, while Royal Caribbean International said it had canceled its visits to St.

Lukashenko Expects Russia to Build a Port for Belarus Potash Exports

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko expects Russia to build a new Baltic Sea port for exports of Belarusian potash which were hit by Western sanctions, he said on Friday after he met Russian President Vladimir Putin.The two leaders met as Russia held military exercises in Belarus as part of a buildup of troops near Ukraine that has prompted Western warnings of an imminent Russian invasion. Moscow denies any such plan and says such warnings are dangerous.Belarus' state-owned Belaruskali is the world's second largest producer of the crop nutrient potash.

The owner and operator of Port Bronka Fenix LLC St.Petersburg and NBG Nouschirvan Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH Hamburg have signed an agency agreement for the promotion of the most modern sea port in Russia.Port Bronka is the only deep-water port in St.Petersburg.The port handles container, project, break bulk and ro-ro cargo. The current capacity of the port is 500.000 TEU and 130.000 units of ro-ro cargo per year.The further development plan includes an increase in the container cargo capacity to 1.9 million TEU per year and ro-ro cargo – up to 200.000 units per year."The development of the port is very dynamic and enormously increasing.

Gazpromneft Marine Bunker in Pact with Cruise Lines

The Gazprom Neft bunkering business Gazpromneft Marine Bunker has concluded new agreements with cruise operators Royal Caribbean International and Saga Cruises.Gazpromneft Marine Bunker will be managing approximately 60 bunkering operations for Royal Caribbean and Saga cruise liners during the summer navigation season (May—September 2019) at St Petersburg’s Marine Façade passenger port.Total sales of marine fuels under these contracts are expected to be in the order of 55,000 tonnes.Passenger cruise liners will be supplied with marine and hybrid oil products with sulphur content of less than 0.1 percent, produced at Gazprom Neft’s Moscow and Omsk Refineries.These highly environmentally friendly marine fuels are designed for use in SECA emission control zones…

St. Petersburg Terminal Adds Kalmar Fleet

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, is to supply a total of 16 terminal tractors to long-standing customer Container Terminal Saint-Petersburg CJSC (CTSP, part of UCL Holding).According to a press release, the order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q1 order intake, with delivery of the machines to take place during Q3 of 2019. Located in the Big port of St. Petersburg, Russia, CTSP specialises in handling all types of containerised cargo at its modern facilities, which include an automated control system that enables high-speed container handling on ship, road and rail transport alike.The terminal has seen significant growth in demand in recent years, with a 12% increase in throughput in 2018 compared to the previous year.

Ship-to-shore Cranes Shipped via The Northern Sea Route

HANSA HEAVY LIFT has transported the first-ever ship-to-shore (STS) cranes via the Northern Sea Route (NSR), relocating them from the port of St Petersburg to the port of Vostochny, spanning both the European and Far East regions of Russia. HHL Valparaiso is the first vessel to sail open hatch through the Northern Sea Route, which is covered by thick ice for most of the year and has a limited window of about two months open to cargo voyages. Bronka to be Gateway to Moscow

Bronka Container Terminal is the biggest in the Baltic Sea, and has already accepted a call from CMA CGM, and is due another from the French liner in March of this year. Ruscon Increases Business in Russian Market

Intermodal operator Ruscon reported it has increased its market share in Russia, maintaining a strong position in a country which has seen imports fall by 20 percent in the last 12 months. In the first quarter of 2015, Ruscon handled 32,250 laden containers compared to 28,497 in the same period last year. Vladimir Bychkov, CEO of GCS, Ruscon’s parent company, said that handling a higher than average volume of import goods also benefits its ability to handle export business. “Imports have fallen but export demand has grown since the devaluation of the rouble and the fall in oil prices.

RS Certifies Containers for Upper Stage Rockets

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) informed it has expanded its competencies in certifying containers for dangerous goods. In 2014 RS certified a new specific type of containers for upper stage rockets by request of Lavochkin Research and Production Association, and in the beginning of December 2014, containers used for shipping space objects to the Kourou launch site in French Guiana were successfully returned to the port of St. Petersburg. Containers of this type are a unique high-tech product designed to protect expensive space equipment from external exposure while shipping it to the launch site in the Pacific Ocean and are currently in use for international outer space exploration programs.

Ruscon Looks to Double Service

New Navy Ship -- JHSV -- to Drop Anchor in St. Petersburg

The Navy's first Joint High-Speed Vessel, USNS Spearhead (JHSV 1), is scheduled to visit the Port of St. Petersburg beginning Sunday, Feb. 10. The ship will remain in port until its departure Tuesday afternoon. The port call is primarily a working visit and an opportunity for senior officials and military personnel from U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command to visit the ship and receive short briefings on Spearhead's capabilities. Built in Mobile, Ala., by Austal U.S.A., USNS Spearhead is designed for rapid, intra-theater transport of troops and military equipment.

New Liner Services Between Hamburg, Russia

Starting in November 2011, two new feeder line services will be scheduled for regular sailings between the Port of Hamburg and Russia. The shipping company Team Lines will be using the RUS 2 Service in the Hamburg – St. Petersburg – Hamburg – Bremerhaven – Hamburg rotation to augment its RUS 1 service handled by its own vessels with capacities of OOCL for containerised shipping to this key market region. The first ship will be sailing from Hamburg on 7 November. The Swan Container Line has also included Hamburg in its weekly schedule for its St. Petersburg service. On the Hamburg – St. Petersburg – Rotterdam – Hamburg rotation, two 900 TEU container vessels link Germany’s largest seaport with Russia.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service Strengthens Presence in Russia

Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) has consolidated its legal status in Russia which will enable the global ships services provider to supply all clients in the country, including internal ports and waterways. Wilhelmsen Ships Service has had offices in all main ports in Russia for the last 15 years, but until now has only been able to service foreign vessels calling at Russian ports. By establishing a legal entity within the Russian Federation, WSS is now able to supply marine products inside the country from warehouses in Vladivostok and St Petersburg.

Konecranes Wins Crane Orders in Russia

In September and October 2007 Konecranes signed two contracts to supply container-handling cranes to the cargo terminal OJSC Petrolesport (PLP) in St. Petersburg, Russia. One of the orders comprises two ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and the other six RTG (rubber tyred gantry) cranes. The cranes will be delivered in mid-2008. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the orders. PLP is one of the largest stevedoring companies in the port of St. Petersburg. PLP belongs to Severstaltrans Group of companies. Cargo traffic is increasing in Russia, so PLP is increasing its terminal capacity in the St. Petersburg port. Konecranes has delivered cranes to PLP's terminal in the past, and the terminal has six Konecranes cranes in its fleet, one STS and five RTGs.
