Seafarers International House Honors Maritime Leaders

Members of the maritime community gathered last evening at the New York Athletic Club to honor three of its leaders: H. Marshall Ainley (President, Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association), Ian T. Blackley (President & CEO, Overseas Ship Management, Inc.) and Raymond J. Burke Jr. (Partner, Burke & Parsons). These individuals were given the 2016 “Outstanding Friend of Seafarers” Award by Seafarers International House, a Lutheran, non-profit agency serving merchant seafarers in Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island, at the organization’s 16th Annual “Setting the Course” Awards Banquet. * Marshall Ainley was elected president of MEBA in January 2014 and is a 1982 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Maritime Academy in Kings Point, NY.

Charity Banquet to Honor ‘Outstanding Friends of Seafarers’

Seafarers International House will hold its 16th annual awards banquet from 6-10 p.m. on April 21 at the New York Athletic Club.   The banquet will honor Marshall Ainley, president of Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA); Ian Blackley, president and CEO of Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc. (OSG); and Ray Burke, partner at Burke & Parsons.   The Setting the Course annual award banquet supports Seafarers International House’s port mission and honors those in the maritime industry who’s achievements have earned them the Outstanding Friend of Seafarers Award. Seafarers International House Awards Banquet

Seafarers International House will hold its 15th Annual Setting the Course Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the New York Athletic Club, 180 Central Park South, New York City.   This year’s honorees are Anthony Chiarello, President & CEO, Tote, Inc. and Stephen Knott, General Vice President, International Longshoremen’s Association.   The banquet supports Seafarers International House’s port mission to seafarers in Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, New Haven, New London and Providence, also serving to honor a member from the labor and the business sector of the maritime industry whose achievements have earned them the Outstanding Friend of Seafarers Award.   For details about the banquet, contact Chris Roehrer (212-677-4800 or [email protected]).

Setting the Course Awards Banquet

Seafarers & International House will hold its 14th annual Setting the Course awards banquet the at the New York Athletic Club on Tuesday evening, April 22, 2014 to honor Donald J. Marcus, Edward R. Morgan and Captain Richard P. Phillips as the 2014 Outstanding Friends of Seafarers. •Don Marcus is the President of the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots, having served for many years as its Secretary-Treasurer. He is also the first president of the Maritime Labor Alliance (MLA), an organization formed by six unions to revitalize the U.S flag feet, to enhance cooperation within the maritime industry and to protect the jurisdictional rights of the maritime union members.

Seafarers & Int'l House Awards Banquet

On Thursday evening, April 22, 2010, Seafarers & International House will hold its annual awards banquet, “Setting the Course,” at the New York Athletic Club for the purpose of honoring Donald Keefe, President of Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association, Philip J. Schapiro, President & CEO of Liberty Maritime Corporation and Joseph C. Sweeney, Distinguished Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law. Seafarers & International House is a Lutheran mission serving seafarers and sojourners. Its 84-room guesthouse at 123 East 15th Street in Manhattan, once one of several seafarer hotels, is now utilized to accommodate a greater variety of travelers, including domestic violence victims, refugees, asylum seekers, as well as the reduced number of seafarers requiring accommodations.

SUNY Maritime College Hosts Annual Awards Night

The Alumni Association, SUNY Maritime College, will host its annual Awards Night on Thursday, March 27 at the New York Athletic Club in New York City. Captain Robert E. Johnston, Class of 1969, has been selected as the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. As you know, the Association presents this award to an alumnus who has achieved outstanding success in his/her career as well as service to their industry, country and alma mater. Capt. Johnston is the executive vice President of OSG Ship Management, Inc. He joined OSG in June of 1969 as a Third Mate. In 1974, he assumed command of a 38,000-ton tanker. His seagoing experience was gained on crude oil and product tankers in all capacities from Third Mate to Master.
