CLdN Acquires Seatruck Ferries from Clipper Group

European RoRo ferry operator CLdN announced on Tuesday that it has entered into an agreement to acquire all shares in Seatruck Ferries Holding Ltd. from Clipper Group. Cammell Laird: Polar Ship Contract to Kick-start Exports

British shipyard and engineering company Cammell Laird said it plans to unleash an “aggressive exports drive” in 2017 after one of its busiest years for commercial marine work, which saw it land the biggest shipbuilding project in the U.K. for a generation. Cammell Laird CEO John Syvret said the winning of the £150 million contract to build the Sir David Attenborough polar research vessel for the U.K. Government “threw open” a new global market to build a range of high value polar vessels from research to cruise ships.

Gibdock Performs Quick Freight Ferry Repair

Gibdock has redelivered the Seatruck Ferries container/ro-ro vessel Clipper Point on-time, after a fast turnaround 11-day renewal project for the Clipper Group-owned operator. The ship has subsequently been introduced to Seatrucks’ Irish Sea operations. Returning Gibdock customer Seatruck scheduled the 5,193dwt Clipper Point to arrive in the yard on September 18. The 142m long (23m beam) freight ferry left the yard after the job’s completion on September 30. Fishing Vessel Skipper Fined for Collision

The skipper of a fishing vessel that collided with a ferry was fined after pleading guilty for failing to keep a proper lookout. The skipper, Lindsay Haugh, of the fishing vessel Onward N336, was fined a total of £2,500 plus costs of £231 at a hearing today in the County Court Division of South Down, the U.K Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) reported. At approximately midnight on September 12, 2014, the fishing vessel was heading back from fishing grounds in thick fog to its home port of Killkeel when it collided with the Clipper Pennant, a Seatruck Ferries vessel at anchor off Carlingford Lough, Northern Ireland, MCA said. Cammell Laird Environmental Package Targets Ferry Market

Birkenhead shipyard and engineering services company Cammell Laird said it has developed an advanced shipyard environmental package for ferries, following its strongest year of trading in the sector. Cammell Laird said it has docked 24 ferries between 2013 and the beginning of 2014 and, in addition, has carried out a further 24 afloat repairs for ferry operators. During 2013 Cammell Laird repaired, built and converted almost 250,000 gross tons of ferry and Ro-Ro ships for a wide range of owners. Already in 2014 it has docked and repaired ferries of 150,000 gross tons.

On Friday Dec 19 the naming and launching ceremony of a new 634 ft RoRo freight ferry will take place in Flensburg, Germany. The freight ferry is the thirteenth of fourteen RoRo vessels, which our longstanding Turkish customer U.N. Ro-Ro has ordered with Flensburger. U.N. Ro-Ro is in ownership of the private investor KKR (New York), who took over the shipping company U.N Ro-Ro in 2007. The vessel will be christened Cüneyt Solakoglu. Crescent takes delivery of new design ships

U.K. shipping and transport group Crescent PLC has added two 2,670 dwt bulk carriers to the fleet of ships operated by Crescent Shipping, the group's dry cargo shipping division. "The Crescent Seine and the Crescent Rhine are of a brand new design and are exceptionally flexible ships. Both have low air draft designs, allowing them to trade on combined river-sea routes. Fully loaded with 134,800 cu ft of grain, for instance, they will still only have a draft of 4.05 m and an air draft of 5.2 m. Moreover, both are fully fitted to carry 84 teu boxes," says Jim Stewart, managing director of Crescent Shipping. The Crescent group of companies comprises four distinct divisions operating throughout Europe.

Seatruck Ferries Voted Irish Shipping Line of the Year

Irish Sea freight ferry operator Seatruck Ferries has been voted "Irish Sea Shipping Line of the Year". Seatruck Ferries received the award at the annual All Ireland "Transport & Logistics Awards" at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast on Friday, 10 September. The award was open to any shipping operation that sails into Ireland, including all ferry operations, container, bulk and liquid carriers. Seatruck made it into the final three, with P&O Irish Sea and Stena Line also in contention. During the presentation ceremony Seatruck was praised for running an excellent operation, with a number of extremely favourable customer comments finally convincing the independent judging panel that Seatruck should be given the winning vote.

Seatruck Ferries Adds Third Vessel

Seatruck Ferries is to introduce a third vessel onto to its Heysham - Warrenpoint service in the summer of 2005. Lembitu, to be renamed Challenge, will join the Seatruck fleet on a two-year charter, allowing an additional 25,000 units per year to take advantage of the specialist freight route. With a capacity of 65 units and a service speed of 16.5 knots, the Challenge is well proven on the Irish Sea and will join the Moondance and Riverdance to increase schedule frequency from 2 to 3 sailings per day in each direction. The additional sailings will be timed to ideally fit the needs of the Irish Sea transport industry. Seatruck expect volumes to increase to 85,000 units per year.

Seatruck Christens First of Five

SEATRUCK Ferries has celebrated the christening of the first of five new ferries, the Clipper Point, at Astilleros de Huelva in Spain. When it enters service early in 2007, the Clipper Point will be by far the largest and most powerful vessel to operate from Heysham. Working on the Seatruck route to Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland, the vessel can carry over 120 units, doubling the capacity of the current Seatruck vessels. Service speed will be an impressive 22 knots, reducing crossing times from 9 to 6.5 hours. To cope with the new vessel, Heysham Port is undertaking a significant investment in new facilities, including the provision of a brand new double-width ramp to permit more efficient vessel handling.

Freight-only Volumes Boost Seatruck Third Vessel Success

Freight ferry operator Seatruck Ferries has seen a significant 45 percent year-on-year increase in volume on its Heysham – Warrenpoint service since the introduction of a third vessel in July 2005. The Challenge joined the Seatruck fleet on a two-year charter in July, allowing an additional 25,000 units per year to take advantage of the specialist freight route. The Challenge joined ferries Moondance and Riverdance to increase schedule frequency from 2 to 3 sailings per day in each direction. Seatruck expects volumes to reach 85,000 units per year. The extra sailings accommodate demand while Seatruck is awaiting its two new purpose-built larger ro-ros, due to enter service in 2007.

Seatruck Confirms Newbuilding Delivery Dates

Seatruck Ferries has celebrated its tenth anniversary by confirming that the third and fourth vessels in a four-ship series building in Spain for the Clipper Group-owned Irish Sea freight ferry operator will be delivered in 2008. Last year, Seatruck ordered two 142 metre-long, 120-unit, 22-knot vessels from Astilleros de Huelva in Spain. These vessels – the Clipper Point and the Clipper Pace – will be delivered in 2007, replacing the Riverdance and Moondance, doubling capacity and significantly increasing speed and efficiency on the company’s Warrenpoint to Heysham route. The new vessels will be the largest and fastest freight-only ships ever to be used on the Irish Sea, offering a new level of service and reliability.

Seatruck supports Mersey shiprepair

Heysham-based Seatruck Ferries has drydocked its freight ferry MV Moondance with newly formed North Western Ship Repairers, using Birkenhead's Bidston dock. The dock is not far from the Camell Lairds facility, and North Western is led by John Syvret (ex-MD of Camell Lairds. Seatruck is the first company to use North West for a full drydocking. Kevin Hobbs MD of Seatruck, says, "We are delighted that North Western has stepped in to offer the quality service that we require. Merseyside has once again proved itself as a center of excellence for ship repair and conversion. Seatruck welcomes the new facility that is well placed to provide for its needs on their Irish Sea route.
