Tampa Bay’s Cross Bay Ferry a winner for HMS Ferries

The Ferry’s second season this year presents permanent possibilities.The Cross Bay Ferry from Tampa’s Florida Aquarium dock to the dock at the North Yacht Basin in St. Petersburg, Florida is off to a rollicking start, with 3,000 more passengers in it’s debut month of November 2018 than its strongest month during the 2016/2017 test period, and with continued support from Tampa Bay area leadership.“We are very encouraged by the numbers we are seeing so far,” St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman said.

Cross-Bay Ferry Returning to Tampa Bay

New Navy Ship -- JHSV -- to Drop Anchor in St. Petersburg

The Navy's first Joint High-Speed Vessel, USNS Spearhead (JHSV 1), is scheduled to visit the Port of St. Petersburg beginning Sunday, Feb. 10. The ship will remain in port until its departure Tuesday afternoon. The port call is primarily a working visit and an opportunity for senior officials and military personnel from U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command to visit the ship and receive short briefings on Spearhead's capabilities. Built in Mobile, Ala., by Austal U.S.A., USNS Spearhead is designed for rapid, intra-theater transport of troops and military equipment.

SecDef Announces Flag Officer Nomination

Special from the Department of Defense Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced May 10 that the president has made the following nomination: Navy Vice Adm. Eric T. Olson has been nominated for appointment to the grade of admiral and assignment as commander, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. Olson is currently serving as deputy commander, U.S. Special Operations Command.
