State Secretary Lind Receives WISTA Award

WISTA Norway announces Rikke Lind as the “Shipping name of the year” during Nor-shipping 2011. Lind receives the award as recognition of her dedicated efforts to support women in the maritime industry for more than 10 years.

Rikke Lind will accept the award this afternoon at a ceremony in Oslo. Women´s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) is an organisation for women at management level in the maritime industry. Its mission is to facilitate networking and professional development for women in shipping.

Statement from the juryjustification:
The award is given out as recognition to women in shipping who truly lives the WISTA values - professional, dynamic, open-minded and committed - for their contribution to the development of the maritime industry. Since 2001, Rikke Lind has held several leading positions in the shipping business, including organisations such as the Norwegian ShipownersAssociation and the Maritime Forum in Norway. With wisdom and dedication Rikke Lind has worked to better the conditions for the industry in general and for women specifically for many years.

"State secretary at the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry, Rikke Lind, uses every opportunity to emphasize the importance of having a diversity of gender, age and competence on the management level and above in shipping companies. Her openness and support of other women in the industry sets her apart as an important and inspiring role model in the maritime community, "says Bjørg Ekornrud, President of WISTA Norway.

Elisabeth Grieg was the first to receive the “Shipping Name of the Year” in 2006. Same year, she was also awarded”Personality of the year” by WISTA International. Other recipients include Ellen Forland (2007), Gunvor Ulstein (2008), Marita Scott (2009) and BorgnyEidesvik (2010).
