World's First LNG-hybrid Tug Will Run mtu Gas Engines

The main propulsion system of the Sembcorp hybrid tug comprises twin 16-cyclinder mtu Series 4000 gas units which will provide a combined total power of 2984 kilowatts. The new engines are part of Rolls-Royce's Green and High-Tech program. Without exhaust gas aftertreatment they emit no sulfur oxides and only very small quantities of nitrogen oxide and particulate mass is below the verification limit. (Photo: Rolls-Royce)

A new liquefied natural gas (LNG)-hybrid tug—said to be the world's first—will be equipped with two mtu 16V 4000 M55RN gas engines from manufacturer Rolls-Royce.The harbor tug will be built by Sembcorp Marine Integrated Yard and operated in Singapore by Jurong Marine Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine. MOL Signs LNG Charter with Pavilion Gas

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced that it has signed a long-term charter contract to operate Asia's largest (12,000m3-class) LNG bunkering vessel in Singapore, the world's largest fuel supply port, with Pavilion Gas, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pavilion Energy.Demand for LNG as bunker fuel is expected to grow on a global scale as stricter SOx regulations take effect in January 2020. Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) is focusing considerable effort on development of an LNG fuel supply infrastructure and implementing policies aimed at creating the world's largest LNG fuel supply port.The Japanese government also concluded a "Memorandum of understanding in relation to the cooperation on the development of LNG as a marine fuel" with seven other countries…

Sembcorp Marine Bags Offshore Wind and Ferry Projects

Sembcorp Marine is breaking new ground in renewable  energy engineering solutions with two separate projects worth over S$200 million (USD 145 mln).The Group has inked an agreement with Ørsted Wind Power subsidiary Optimus Wind Limited for engineering, procurement, construction, hook-up and commissioning works on two topsides, to be deployed at the Hornsea 2 Offshore Wind Farm in the UK North Sea.With a combined weight of approximately 8,700 tonnes, the two topsides will be fabricated at Sembcorp Marine’s integrated yard facilities for delivery in the first quarter of 2021.The 1.4 gigawatt (GW) capacity Hornsea 2 Offshore Wind Farm – the world’s biggest when operational in 2022 – is located 89km north-east of Grimsby…

Sembmarine to Buy Sevan Marine’s IP

Sembcorp Marine (SembMarine) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Marine Integrated Yard (SMIY) plans to buy the intellectual property (IP) of Norway’s Sevan Marine for US$28 million and bring an end to a long-standing intellectual property dispute between the two parties. SMIY will further undertake to take over some of Sevan Marine’s existing service contracts and provide engineering services to some of Sevan’s existing contract partners which have outstanding licence fees payable to Sevan Marine. The litigation between SCM Group and Sevan Marine in the US Courts over the infringement of intellectual property rights of SCM Group will be terminated subject to completion.

Sembcorp Plants UK Footprint

Sembcorp Marine (SMOE) acquires, from Smulders Group, SLP Engineering Limited (SLP) based in Lowestoft, UK. SLP  will be renamed Sembmarine SLP Limited (Sembmarine SLP) and will be held through newly incorporated company Sembmarine North Sea Limited (Sembmarine North Sea). Sembmarine North Sea will be 70% owned by SMOE and 30% owned by eight members of the SLP Management team led by its Managing Director, Mr Paul Thomson. SMOE will acquire all the shares in SLP from Zefier, a subsidiary of Smulders Group. Under the Sales & Purchase Agreement signed on 14 September 2012, SMOE will pay about £2.5 million for both shares and settlement of the intercompany loans of SLP. The deal will be completed only upon certain conditions being met. The NTA of SLP is about £0.7 million.

Sembcorp - LNG Carrier Longevity Contract

This contract signifies the first time that a major LNG operator has committed itself to a long-term longevity program to extend its vessels’ future trading life when the vessels progressively reach their 20th year in service. The contract, signed in by Mr. John Charles, Commercial Manager of North West Shelf Shipping Service Company Pty Ltd (NWSSSC) on behalf of IGTC, and Ms Wong Lee-Lin, Executive Director of Sembawang Shipyard Pte Ltd, is the first such contract of IGTC’s Longevity Project, which involves the life extension of 6 LNG carriers over a period of 6 years. Sembawang Shipyard is a subsidiary shipyard in the Sembcorp Marine Group.

SembCorp Signs Long Term LNG Deal

Singapore’s SembCorp Marine Ltd has announced a long-term contract from Australia’s North West Shelf venture (NWS) to provide dry-docking, refit, and other marine services, for their fleet of LNG ships. This breakthrough contract signifies the first time that a major LNG consortium has committed itself to a long-term maintenance and refit contract in the region. At a time when Singapore is preparing itself to be a major hub and player in the LNG sector, the selection of SembCorp Marine as a refit partner of NWS, is a great boost to the Singapore marine industry and reinforces the Shipyard Group’s position as one of the area’s leaders in LNG refits.
