Sempra Reaches FID on Port Arthur LNG Plant's Phase 1

U.S. power and gas utility Sempra Energy said on Monday the first phase of its proposed Port Arthur liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal received the financial greenlight to move ahead with investment firm KKR & Co agreeing to a minority stake in the project.Though KKR's investment was not disclosed, an infrastructure fund managed by it will buy a 25% to 49% indirect, non-controlling interest in the project. U.S. exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) fell about 8% last month, according to preliminary Refinitiv vessel tracking data on Monday, but Europe remained the top importer as the continent secures alternate supply following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.U.S. LNG exports to all destinations came to about 7.10 million tonnes (MT) last month, according to Refinitiv, down from a record high 7.67 MT in March.Europe was the top importer of U.S. LNG for a fifth straight month, taking about 64% of U.S. exports, according to the data.

Sovcomflot Tanker Carrying US LNG Arrives in France

A Russian-owned tanker carrying U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) arrived on Monday at anchorage outside the French port of Nantes Saint-Nazaire, according to vessel tracking data from Refinitiv.The Sovcomflot vessel SCF La Perouse was carrying LNG from Sempra Energy's Cameron LNG facility in the United States. France has not barred Russian vessels from arriving at its ports.The Elengy terminal in Montoir, where the tanker is scheduled to unload, is operating normally and has not changed its plan to handle the gas, a spokeswoman said. The LNG terminal is owned by energy and services firm Engie.The United States in February blacklisted Sovcomflot vessels over Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Cameron LNG Begins Commercial Service

Sempra's Cameron LNG Terminal Ships First Cargo

Sempra Energy said on Friday the $10 billion Cameron liquefied natural gas export terminal in Louisiana had shipped its first cargo, making the plant the fourth big LNG export terminal to enter service in the United States.Mitsui & Co Ltd, one of the partners in the Cameron project, chartered the tanker, Marvel Crane, to pick up the commissioning cargo.It was not immediately clear where the vessel was headed.Sempra said commissioning cargos were a critical step in the start-up process. Cameron LNG Begins Production

The Cameron LNG project has achieved first liquefied natural gas (LNG) production from train 1. The project will begin exports in the coming weeks.The project is operated by Cameron LNG LLC jointly owned by Sempra Energy (50.2%), Total (16.6%), Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (16.6%) and Mitsubishi/NYK (16.6%). NYK participates through Japan LNG Investments LLC (JLI), an NYK–Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) joint venture.NYK said in a press release that the Project will produce 12 million tons of LNG per annum through three liquefaction trains.This first batch of LNG was produced by the first liquefaction train. The second and third trains are currently under construction.

DOE Approves Port Arthur LNG Project

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the signing of a long-term order authorizing the export of domestically produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Sempra Energy’s Port Arthur LNG export project to be built in Port Arthur, Texas. The U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry signed the authorization allowing Port Arthur LNG to export approximately 13.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of LNG to countries that do not have a free-trade agreement (FTA) with the U.S. during the first U.S.-EU Energy Council High-Level Energy Forum in Brussels, Belgium."I am pleased to announce the order signed today authorizing Port Arthur LNG to export up to 1.91 billion cubic feet per day of LNG, to any country that does not have an FTA with the United States," said Perry.

Port Arthur LNG Gets Permits

U.S. energy company and LNG operator Sempra Energy said that its Port Arthur LNG export terminal has moved one step closer to obtaining a federal permit.The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) released a positive environmental impact statement for the project on Thursday, clearing Port Arthur LNG for the next round of the review process.FERC report concluded the project “would result in some adverse environmental impacts, but these impacts would be reduced to less-than-significant levels.”In addition to the Port Arthur LNG project approval, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued the EIS for the Texas and Louisiana connector pipeline projects that will deliver natural gas to the new export facility…
