Langeland New MD of L-3 Valmarine

L-3 Valmarine appointed Finn Inge Langeland as its managing director. He will report directly to Klaus Lorenz, vice president of European Operations for L-3 Marine & Power Systems. Mr. Langeland succeeds Ingvald Løvdal, who will manage the Marine Navigation division at L-3 Valmarine. Mr. Langeland has more than 15 years of operational management experience in the marine automation market. Prior to joining L-3, he served as the head of hardware and software development at Bjørge Marine Automation.

L-3 Offshore, STX Engine Team Up

L-3 Offshore of Coventry, UK, has signed a teaming agreement with STX Engine, the subsidiary of South Korea’s STX Group, under which the two organizations are to collaborate in the marketing and supply of integrated power, electric propulsion, dynamic positioning and automation systems for the Korean offshore market as well as other STX Group concerns. Senior L-3 European Appointments

L-3 Marine & Power Systems Group, whose members include SAM Electronics, has appointed Klaus Lorenz as Vice-President of its European Operations. Reporting to Steve Kantor, President of the $1.3b Group, he will be responsible for all its activities throughout Europe, including business development as well as customer and inter-divisional relationships. Formerly President of SAM Electronics, which was acquired by L-3 in 2006, Mr Lorenz has been associated with the marine industry for over 35 years, having also held senior management posts with ABB.

SAM Electronics Acquires APSS

SAM Electronics of Hamburg, a subsidiary of L-3 Communications, New York, has acquired APSS S.r.l. of Italy, a leading supplier of automation equipment and control assemblies to the domestic marine market. Based in Diano d’Alba, APSS is an acknowledged specialist integrator of automation systems and manufacturer of control components. Customers include high-end Italian shipyards building cruiseliners, ferries and chemical carriers. Acquisition of the Italian company enhances the broad international presence of SAM Electronics and its Danish subsidiary, Lyngsø Marine. Additionally, together with its strategic partner, L-3 Valmarine of Norway, APSS provides further opportunities for accelerated growth within the automation sector of the marine industry.
