Oil Removed from WWII Era Shipwreck

A U.S. Navy led team has removed 229,000 gallons of oil from a sunken World War II era German heavy cruiser that has been resting on the seafloor near the Marshall Islands for more than 70 years.After being transferred to the U.S. as a war prize, the cruiser Prinz Eugen was loaded with oil and cargo and used to assess survivability of warships during the Operation Crossroads atomic bomb tests in the Pacific. Britain's First U.S. Shale Gas Arrives in Scotland

Britain's first shale gas delivery from the United States sailed into a heated European political debate on fracking on Tuesday and immediately ran into its first practical problem - the Scottish weather. The huge "Ineos Insight" tanker had entered the Firth of Forth at sunrise, a lone Scots piper playing on its bow, as it headed for the Grangemouth refinery, west of Edinburgh. But gusty squalls prevented it from unloading its controversial cargo before an assembled crowd of dignitaries. "The Insight vessel was unable to dock at the port due to high winds," said a spokesman for Zurich-based chemicals giant Ineos. It would arrive at the port as soon as wind died down, he added. Ship tracking data on Reuters showed the vessel had turned back into deeper waters.

Shell Makes Two Discoveries in Nigeria

Shell Nigeria Ultra Deep Limited and Shell Nigeria Exploration Properties Alpha Limited, companies of the Shell Group, announced they have made discoveries in two 'Big Cat prospects'. Further appraisal is required to determine the discoveries' resource potential. The wells, in blocks OPL 322 and OPL 245, were both in frontier areas. Bobo -1X was drilled in block OPL 322, to a total depth of 5,173 m in 2,479 m of water, the second deepest well in offshore Nigeria. Drilling was completed on 16 July 2005, under budget, and found over 140 meters of hydrocarbon bearing sands. Shell Nigeria Exploration Properties Alpha Limited has a 40 per cent shareholding in OPL 322. mEtan -1X was drilled in block OPL 245 to a total depth of 4,574 m in 1,720 m of water.
