Sea-Fire FM-200 Systems Supress Fire Quickly and Safely

Traditional fire extinguishing agents can cause major damage to─or even destroy─the very things they are meant to protect. Boatbuilders and owners worldwide trust their assets to FG and FD model Sea-Fire pre-engineered suppression systems. They employ FM-200, which is both safe for people and environmentally responsible. Sea-Fire's FG series is perfect for protecting enclosed engine compartments, covering areas from 25 to 240 cu. ft. Available in 20 sizes, FG models feature lightweight, compact, corrosion-resistant aluminum cylinders for easy fit and installation. The FD series protects areas from 150 to 1,500 cu. ft. These cylinders are refillable and, with 54 standard models to choose from, fit most engine compartments.

Ship Noise Guide Updated

Controlling shipborne noise is always a concern for vessel designers, builders and outfitters. The two most widely distributed documents are IMO's Resolution A.468(XII), "Code on Noise Levels Onboard Ships," issued in 1981 and the USCG's Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular (NVIC) 12-82, "Recommendations on Control of Excessive Noise," issued in 1982. These two documents generally discuss methods to reduce shipboard noise, recommend noise limits and describe how to measure noise on ships. One year after the USCG issued the NVIC 12-82, a group of acoustical engineers from the consulting firm of Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN), completed a report that is not as well known, which is still available from SNAME.
