Euronav Inks MOU with Panama Maritime Authority

Euronav Ship Management (Hellas) Ltd. and the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the aim to open up opportunities for Panamanian seafarers on board Euronav vessels.The MOU signed on December 5, 2022 has two main objectives. International Maritime University Pacts with Latin America

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has announced that International Maritime University of Panama (UMIP) has been selected to host the regional Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre (MTCC) for the Latin America region, under an ambitious project, funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by IMO, to help mitigate the harmful effects of climate change. Under the Global MTTC Network (GMN) project, UMIP will host MTCC-Latin America. The selection of UMIP followed a competitive international tendering process. UMIP joins MTCCs in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. In February, IMO announced that Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) will host MTCC-Africa.

ABS Nautical Systems Donates Software to Panama University

ABS Nautical Systems (ABS NS) donated its NS5 Fleet Management Software to the International Maritime University of Panama (UMIP). The donation includes the Maintenance & Repair, Purchasing & Inventory, Crew Management, Quality & Compliance and Replication Manager modules of the NS5 software suite. The modules will be woven into the existing student courses as real-world examples, thus giving students exposure to the software throughout their educational program. “Our curriculum is designed to prepare future officers for the practical challenges they will face throughout their maritime careers," says Acting President for the university Victor Luna. “Our students will now experience first hand the management programs already in use on thousands of vessels," he adds.

Ship Operations Cooperative Program Meeting

The Ship Operations Cooperative Program (SOCP) is extending an invitation to maritime industry representatives to attend their spring meeting in Panama City, Panama, March 31 - April 2, 2009. The event will be hosted by the International Maritime University of Panama and the Panama Canal Authority. The agenda includes discussion panels on the comprehensive review of the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Convention and STCW Code, Piracy and Security issues and solutions, Green Ships and Facilities operations, Panama Canal operations and expansion, and maritime training and educational opportunities in Panama.
