Daewoo wins $430m Contract to Build Drill Ship

Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine & Engineering Co., won a $430m order to build an offshore drill ship. The deal from Odfjell Invest Ltd. calls for Daewoo Shipbuilding to deliver the semi-submersible ship by June, 2010, the company said. Daewoo Shipbuilding said that the deal includes an option to build another drill ship. The company won a total of $4.3 billion worth of orders in 2006 to build offshore facilities such as platforms and rigs. For the year, Daewoo Shipbuilding expects more than $3 billion in orders to build such facilities. So far this year, Daewoo Shipbuilding has won $1.65 billion worth of orders to build ships and offshore facilities, about 15 percent of this year's target of $11 billion. Source: Yonhap

Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group

The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) has received an order from the Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) to supply electrical equipment for a new semisubmersible offshore drilling rig. The rig will be used for deepwater drilling operations in harsh environments. The final customer is Odfjell Invest Ltd., Hamilton, Bermuda. The order is worth around 15 million euros and the drilling rig is to be delivered in October 2008. will be equipped with dual active heave compensating drawworks. For the first time, Sinamics S120 frequency converters will be used on a drilling rig for controlling all the drilling drives including the drawworks.

Keppel Deliver KFELS B Class Jackup

Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) will deliver a jackup to a wholly-owned subsidiary of SeaDrill Management (SeaDrill) on time and within budget. This is the third KFELS B Class rig that Keppel has completed within the first four months of 2006. During the christening ceremony of the jackup on April 21, 2006, Mr Choo Chiau Beng, Chairman & CEO of Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (Keppel O&M), shared with the 300-strong guests, “The on-time delivery of the jackup is a showcase of the good management and execution of Keppel FELS. This rig is the first of four jackups that Keppel FELS is building for SeaDrill. Construction of the other three rigs is progressing well in accordance to schedule. Their expected deliveries are between mid 2007 and second quarter 2008.

Keppel Wins Contract from SeaDrill

Keppel FELS Ltd has secured a $132 million contract from a wholly-owned special purpose company of SeaDrill Limited for a KFELS B class jackup rig. Delivery of this new order is expected in the second quarter of 2008. This order was secured via an option given to Odfjell Partners Ltd. (Odfjell) when it ordered its first rig in March 2004. Odfjell placed an order for its second rig in March 2005. In mid 2005, SeaDrill acquired Odfjell Invest Ltd. and was given the right to exercise Odfjell's option with Keppel FELS. Like the three jackups, this new rig will be of the KFELS B Class design. It is capable of operating in water depths of up to 400 feet, drilling depth of 30,000 feet and accommodating 112 men. Work on SeaDrill's first three rigs is progressing well at Keppel FELS yard.

SeaDrill to Build Jack-Up Rig with Keppel FELS

SeaDrill Limited has declared its option to build a fourth jack-up rig with Keppel FELS Ltd in Singapore. The rig will be of the KFELS B Class design, capable of operating in water depths of up to 400 feet and drilling depth of 30,000 feet. The contract price for the unit is US $132 million and is composed of a basis price of $117M, plus additional upgrades on the specification of USD 15 million in order to make the unit to a sister rig of SeaDrill 1 (Hull B-277) presently under construction by the same yard. The delivery of the rig is expected to take place in the second quarter 2008. This order was secured via an option given to Odfjell Partners Ltd (Odfjell) when it ordered its first rig in March 2004. Odfjell placed an order for its second rig in March 2005.
