Webb Searches for New President as Keith Michel Plans Retirement

After nine years president of Webb Institute, R. Keith Michel announced plans to retire effective June 30, 2022, and the search is on for his successor at this top-ranked undergraduate institution specializing in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Campaign for Webb at $28 Mln and Counting

Webb Institute’s Campaign Cabinet, led by President Keith Michel ’73 and Campaign Chair Joseph Cuneo ’57 announced that $28 million (70 percent) of the $40 million goal has been raised to date in the Campaign for Webb. The Campaign for Webb: America’s Most Unique College is the most ambitious fundraising effort in the institution’s history. Webb Institute Names McMullen 2013-14 Scholarship Recipients

Webb Institute, a 4-year college specializing in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, is pleased to announce that seniors Henry Jansen, from Bayville, NY, and Elli Wunder from North Bend, WA have been named the recipients of the 2013 – 2014 McMullen Family Foundation Scholarship. The McMullen Family Foundation Scholarship Program was established at Webb Institute in 2009 to help off-set room and board expenses. These scholarships are awarded annually to two outstanding Webb students and reflect the Foundation’s commitment to supporting institutions of higher education.

Keith Michel Installed as President of Webb Institute

Retired Chairman of the Board of the Herbert Engineering Group of Companies and Webb Institute alumnus, R. Keith Michel (Webb ’73) was inaugurated as the 15th president of Webb Institutein a private ceremony set on campus. Mr. Michel's inuauguration followed the retirement of RADM Robert C. Olsen, Jr. USCG (Ret.), who filled the role for eight years. “Keith is highly regarded throughout the marine industry and will be an asset to Webb Institute,” said outgoing President Olsen. Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. George Campbell Jr., conducted the presidential inauguration.

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) recognized four individuals for their outstanding contributions to naval architecture and marine engineering. The annual achievement medals were presented at the SNAME Annual Banquet, held during the SNAME 2009 Annual Meeting and Expo in Providence, R.I. The society’s top award, the Vice Admiral "Jerry" Land Medal for outstanding accomplishment in the marine field, was presented to Robert D. Somerville, Chairman and Chief Executive officer of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

Webb Institute Names Crowley Scholars

Crowley's commitment to provide educational opportunities to exemplary students continued this week, as the Webb Institute named Simmy Willemann of Pleasantville, New York and Seth Cooley of East Lyme, Conn., as the 2009-2010 Crowley scholars. Both students, who will each receive $5,000 in cash grants from Crowley, were selected based on their distinguished scholastic and community service activities. As the 2010 Class President, Willemann is involved in several school activities, including creating an online student merchandise store.
