Seven Seas Explorer Spaciously Intimate

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

August 26, 2015

The cruise ship being billed as "the most luxurious ship ever built" will also feature some of the largest cabins  and balconies afloat.

The suites on the Seven Seas Explorer, a cruise ship coming next summer, will be distinguished by some of the largest balconies at sea said Jason Montague, president of Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Through August 2015, the 750-passenger vessel, which debuts in July 2016, is about halfway through the construction process.

Montague hosted a preview of two of the most prevalent suite models here at the Fincantieri ship yard where the Explorer is being built.

Two categories of cabins are the 332-square-foot Concierge Suite, which is one of the more affordable options, and the 450-square-foot Penthouse Suite. The two represent 75 percent of the staterooms onboard.

Full-scale mock-ups of the cabins were on display for the media and about 30 top loyalty program members on a Regent cruise in the Mediterranean.

On the Penthouse suites, balconies will range up to 176 square feet, depending on ship location.  Access will be via two sliding glass doors, one from the living room and one from the bedroom of the suite. Balconies on concierge suites will be up to 132 square feet, with a single sliding glass door and a fixed window.

Like Regent's Seven Sea Voyager and Seven Seas Mariner, the Seven Seas Explorer will be an all-suite vessel, and at $450 million, the most expensive luxury ship ever built, the company says. Only a handful of luxury lines, including Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and Silversea Cruises, offer all-suite vessels.

When asked about Regent Seven Seas' promise that the ship will be the most luxurious at sea, cruise line President Jason Montague said, "We will live up to every word of that."
