ABS Nautical Systems, Siemens Energy Marine Partner

Fleet management software provider ABS Nautical Systems (ABS NS) and Siemens Energy Marine, a provider of energy technology, have joined forces to automate data capture and enhance compliance, including decarbonization targets, for ship owners and operators. ABS NS' digital solution, NS eLogs, is integrating with Siemens' data application, SISHIP EcoMAIN, to automatically capture, consolidate, manage and visualize essential emissions data.NS eLogs replaces traditional paper logbooks with an easy-to-use electronic logbook that reduces crew workload, eliminates error and improves access to data for compliance and operational insights.

CADMATIC Acquires Kymdata, CADS Software

CADMATIC has acquired Finnish software company Kymdata Ltd. including the entire share capital as well as IPRs to all Kymdata’s CADS software and its business agreements. The acquisition increases CADMATIC’s estimated turnover to EUR 28 million. With the addition of Kymdata’s 43 employees, CADMATIC will employ over 200 people.Kymdata's CADS Electric software is a leader in electrical and automation design in Finland and Estonia. The CADS product family also includes software modules e.g. for HVAC calculation and modeling as well as structural design.

The Future: Autonomous Robotic Hull Grooming

Ship hull biofouling has significant impacts on fleet readiness, ship performance, cost, and the environment. Biofouling results in increased hydrodynamic drag which results in greater fuel use and greater emissions per distance traveled than a hydraulically-smooth hull. A study by Schultz, et al. found the typical fouling rating (FR) of a US Navy DDG-51 class vessel, FR-30, increases fuel consumption by 10.3% over a hydraulically-smooth DDG-51. COSCO Orders Navigation Systems for New Box Ships

The German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz announced new contracts for the delivery of Synapsis Integrated Navigation Systems (INS) to five 14,500TEU Container Vessels built at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co.Ltd. The new vessels will be owned by Shanghai-based COSCO Container Lines Co.Ltd. and are planned to enter operation from September 2016 to December 2017. Raytheon Anschütz has won the contracts through its Shanghai Representative Office. Each ship set will consist of X- and S-band radars and seven Synapsis NX Multifunctional Workstations in various configurations.

Raytheon Anschütz Enhance Bridge INS

German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz says it has launched a new Synapsis software release and hardware infrastructure, which will further enhance the bridge alarm management and add new features and capabilities to the Integrated Navigation System (INS). Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control is the world’s first Integrated Navigation System (INS) which complies with the IMO Performance Standards MSC.252(83) and IEC 61924-2. MirTac Wins BAM Software Contract

BAM International has awarded MirTac the contract to (re)organize the documentation and activities related to maintenance, critical equipment, spare parts, quality and safety management into the Star IPS fleet management system. RINA and IB Partner for Ship Management Software Suite

International classification society RINA Group has partnered with Italian software house IB to distribute a software suite aimed at improving ship and fleet operation across the board. Maersk Tankers Now Fielding KVH CommBox

MIDDLETOWN, RI – Maersk Tankers, a division of A.P. Moller Maersk AS, has chosen the CommBox™ Ship/Shore Network Manager from KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) to increase efficiency and lower communications costs aboard 70 vessels. This is in addition to 50 CommBox-equipped vessels that Maersk brought onboard with its acquisition of Broström tankers in 2010. ABS Nautical Signs 30 New Contracts, Doubles Staff

ABS Nautical Systems, provider of integrated fleet management software for the maritime industry, announced it has experienced record growth in the second half of 2009. SpecTec Donates AMOS Licenses to MMA

Massachusetts Maritime University(MMA)and SpecTec have entered into a Cooperation Agreement in which SpecTec has agreed to donate AMOS licenses for MMA's Teaching & Training courses. This is the first license donation partnership with a Maritime Academy in the US for SpecTec. International partners include Dalian Maritime University, National Taiwan Ocean University and Italian Maritime Academy. MMA has extended an invitation to SpecTec CEO, Giampiero Soncini to visit the campus in 2009 for a formal signing event. Massachusetts Maritime Academy's programs include Marine Transportation, Marine Engineering, International Maritime Business, Facilities Engineering, Marine Safety and Environmental Protection, and Emergency Management.

Navi-Trainer 4000 Installed in Tenerife

Transas Europe GmbH has successfully commissioned a Navi-Trainer 4000 Fishing Simulation System combined with TGS 4100 GMDSS Simulation System and ERS 4000 Simulation System at Tenerife, Spain. This procurement provides the largest simulator on the island of Tenerife. The new simulator, installed at Instituto de Formacion Maritimo Pesquero de Tenerife, includes one GMDSS instructor station and eight trainee stations, as well as one navigational instructor station with one main bridge. The main bridge comprises three-channel visualization, plus numerous dedicated hardware and software modules for items such as Navaids, Complete Fishing Station, Conning Display, ECDIS and a GMDSS Station.

Veripos Wins Major Offshore Contract

Veripos’ Houston-based Americas Region has been awarded major offshore positioning contracts by , LSP, Tidewater and WesternGeco for vessels operating in Brazilian, Mexican and US waters. The contracts also cover supply of proprietary integrated demodulator and GNSS receivers and associated software modules to ensure seamless high-precision sub-metre positioning for survey, construction support, seismic and general offshore operations. Facilities being provided to LSP for its well-testing vessel, Aires Swan, operating in Mexican waters on long-term contract to PEMEX include Veripos’ dual-beam Standard and Standard HF augmentation data services together with LD2 and LHD2 integrated demodulator and GNSS receivers.

SpecTec Sponsors ONMA Competition

On November 6th, 2008, SpecTec participated in the awards ceremony for the “Best Cadet in AMOS” Competition at Odessa National Maritime Academy in Ukraine. The ceremony kicked off with a speech from ONMA management on the importance of Asset Management Operating System (AMOS) courses. SpecTec CFO, Stefano Foti, also expressed the importance of the cooperation between SpecTec and ONMA. The award ceremony took place at the Central Academy Hall. The program also included a welcome speech by Alexander Donchuk, SpecTec Ukraine, with his introduction to AMOS2 EMS. The ONMA is the largest Maritime Academy in the Ukraine. As part of the agreement, SpecTec will sponsor the annual competition among the cadets at ONMA.

Lyngsø Marine Awarded Contract

Lyngsø Marine of Hørsholm, Denmark, a subsidiary of SAM Electronics, has been awarded a contract for supply of integrated automation packages for installation aboard a series of 14 54,000 dwt bulk carriers under construction at Hanoi-based Vinashin Group’s Dung Quat and Ha Long yards for delivery to its own shipping line between 2008 and 2010. Each vessel package comprises complementary MCS 2200 integrated monitoring and control and PCS 2200 propulsion control systems together with newly-developed EGS 2200 electronic governors for main engine control. The systems, which will be mounted in purpose-designed engine room consoles, all feature open architecture as well as standardized hardware and software modules.
