Commercial workboat philanthropy on display on PT-305: WWII Museum’s PT-305 sails again after a far reaching donor-funded restoration. In March, the National WWII Museum in New Orleans launched its reconstructed PT-305, built locally by Higgins Industries in 1943. The museum acquired the boat known as the USS Sudden Jerk in 2007, restoration began in 2009, and it now sails Lake Pontchartrain as an interactive exhibit. PT-305, with a fifteen-man crew, belonged to a 12-ship squadron operating in the Mediterranean from 1944 until the war ended in 1945.

Caribbean shipyard Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBS) said it has completed work on 30 commercial vessels within first half of 2017, predominantly comprised of companies returning to the yard with repeat business including tankers, bulk carriers, containerships, tugs, dive support vessels and drilling support vessels. In what is considered a volatile market, GBS said 2017 has been a great year for repeat customers, solidifying its position as a supporter of the major U.S. East Coast…

Subsea Industries has strengthened its presence in the U.K.’s maritime and renewable energy sectors with opening up of a dedicated marine and offshore coatings office in the U.K. and the appointment of coatings specialist Mark Woods as its U.K.-based technical representative. The new office forms part of Subsea Industries’ wider growth strategy to meet increased demand for the company’s award-winning non-toxic hard coatings. As accounting manager, Woods will head up Chelmsford-based Subsea Industries U.K., with responsibility for sales growth across the company’s complete portfolio of marine coatings. However, the company is actively recruiting sales representatives for other locations.

The platform supply vessel World Diamond was delivered by Damen Shipyards, Galati, on June 28, 2013, to World Wide Supply. The PSV was built to a completely new and distinctive design from Damen, and World Diamond is the first of six PSVs for the Norwegian owner. The vessel is capable of worldwide operations and its construction involved close cooperation with Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, The Netherlands, which provided engineering and main equipment. Designed to address the industry issues of predictability in antifouling performance not seen since the days of tributyltin and the difficult issue of slime fouling on ships hulls, International Paint launched two new hull-coating technologies in March, 2013. International Paint said Intercept8000 LPP and Intersleek1100SR were created to improve vessel operating performance, increase efficiency and reduce fuel costs and emissions, and now the manufacturer reports that the two new coatings have already made a significant impact on the market within months of their debut. Since March 2013, Intersleek1100SR has been applied to 52 vessels with 45 contracted and 27 under negotiation across all main classes, including container, cruise, LNG, Ro-Ro, and tanker vessels.

Product and chemical tanker specialist Ardmore Shipping has taken delivery of the Ardmore Seaventure from SPP Shipbuilding in Korea and immediately delivered the tanker to Cargill on a 12 month time charter arrangement. The Ardmore Seaventure is a 49,999 deadweight ton (dwt) IMO 3 product and chemical tanker and the second vessel to be delivered to Ardmore Shipping from a series of four orders placed with SPP Shipbuilding, Korea. Ardmore Shipping Celebrates Naming of "Ardmore Seavaliant' and 'Ardmore Seaventure'. Ardmore Seavaliant immediately chartered to Cargill, following naming at SPP Shipbuilding. Chemical and product tanker specialist Ardmore Shipping has named the two newest vessels to join its fleet, the Ardmore Seavaliant and the Ardmore Seaventure. The naming ceremonies for the two newbuild vessels took place at SPP Shipbuilding in South Korea, prior to the Ardmore Seavaliant being immediately delivered to Cargill on a 12-month time charter arrangement.

International Paint helps refurbish a classroom at the Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. The project began when Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T), a wholly owned subsidiary of Russian energy firm OAO Gazprom, invited a group of suppliers to consider ways to cooperate with the Academy. A group of volunteers from International Paint in St. Petersburg teamed up with colleagues from the AkzoNobel Wood Coatings and Adhesives business to transform a classroom at the Academy and equip it with a new LCD projector, screen, computer, whiteboard, tables and chairs. Alan Walker, International Paint’s Marine Director for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia said: “As well as the refurbishment we will also provide training and training materials to the Academy.

The term “Fleet Optimization” means many things to many people. What does it mean to you? Hapag-Lloyd chooses International Paint coatings for ‘Hamburg Express’, and for all of its latest 10 container ship newbuildings. The ‘Hamburg Express’ will sail Loop 4 of the G6 Alliance, starting in Hamburg and calling at the ports of Rotterdam, Singapore, Yantian, Ningbo and Shanghai before returning via Yantian, Singapore and Southampton. Hapag-Lloyd has again chosen coatings from International Paint, this time for the ‘Hamburg Express’, the first of a new class of 10 container ship newbuildings from Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. At 13,200 TEU the ‘Hamburg Express’ is Hapag-Lloyd’s largest ship to date. All 10 units in the ‘Hamburg Express’ class are designed to support Hapag-Lloyd’s commitment to efficiency and sustainability by setting the very highest performance and environmental standards, reducing fuel consumption and emissions thanks to innovative on-board technology.

AkzoNobel signs J/V agreement with Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo group of companies for supply of the company's International Paint brand. The new deal strengthens the existing joint venture between AkzoNobel and Kanoo, which only covers the supply of the company's International Paint brand, along with coil and packaging coatings. Under the terms of the expanded agreement, AkzoNobel will offer products from across its Performance Coatings portfolio, including professional woodcare, automotive refinish, marine, yacht, fire protection, protective and powder coatings.

BAE Systems joined with Mid Ocean Tanker Company (MOTC), Mid Ocean Marine and Alterna Captial Partners earlier this year to commission the American Phoenix, a U.S. Flag/Jones Act-qualified product-chemical tanker. Measuring 616 x 105 ft. with a laden draft of 36 ft. and a cargo capacity of 49,000 dwt, American Phoenix is the largest vessel ever built and launched in the State of Alabama. BAE Systems was contracted to complete construction of the American Phoenix and prepare it for use. The vessel is owned by MOTC, a joint venture between Mid Ocean Marine and private equity firm Alterna Capital Partners. The vessel will conduct trade initially in the Gulf of Mexico.
