The Port of Long Beach said it is conducting a comprehensive Land Use Study to eventually create well-informed land use strategies.

Work on the Land Use Study began in 2015 and is expected to continue through 2016. The purpose of the study is to produce an evaluation process and tools that will help port staff, management and the Board of Harbor Commissioners make informed decisions about how to prioritize land uses for the ‘Port of the Future.’

Focusing efforts and resources on creating a process to evaluate future land use options will allow the Port to proactively address major challenges and balance its role as a facilitator of international trade, while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, safety, security and community partnership.

With an ongoing $4 billion program to modernize its facilities this decade, the Port of Long Beach said it is building the ‘Green Port of the Future’ by investing in capital and service improvements that will focus on long-term, environmentally sustainable growth, and maintain its competitive advantage as the fastest route between Asia and anywhere in North America.
