Force Technology, Logimatic Collaborate on Software

The new collaboration between software supplier Logimatic and research and development company FORCE Technology has resulted in a multifunctional software system capable of providing big results for mariners. Last year Logimatic launched ’Sertica Performance’ as a part of the software system ‘Sertica Fleet Management’. ‘Sertica Performance’ monitors and analyzes the elements affecting a vessel’s fuel consumption. The collaboration with FORCE Technology consists of an integration between the performance optimization system ’SeaTrend’ and ‘Sertica Performance’.

EV Acquires Epidote

Leading specialist in well diagnosis, EV, has announced the acquisition of Aberdeenshire-based well integrity software supplier, Epidote Limited, to enable a world-class well diagnosis service. The acquisition results in EV taking full ownership of the company and its five employees. Epidote was established in 1999, its MIPS software providing multi-finger calliper data processing, interpretation and 3D visualisation. When combined with EV’s cameras, data can be streamed in real time and played back on log data, eliminating the uncertainty of well diagnostics. Additionally, data can be sought in one run as opposed to multiple, resulting in faster, better quality decisions and reduced downtime.

The Dutch weather routing software supplier Meteo Consult and Amarcon, have received an order from Maersk Line to equip a minimum of 110 Maersk Line container vessels with SPOS Seakeeping. The Seakeeping plug-in is a feature within Meteo Consults weather routing software SPOS. Seaspan Selects IFS Applications to Support $8B Navy Deal

“They (IFS) also have a partnership with our existing CAD software supplier which will help us ensure the continuity between design and engineering processes that are so essential to efficient shipbuilding processes," said Seaspan Shipyards President Brian Carter.

IFS North America said that Seaspan has selected IFS Applications as its Shipbuilding materials requirements planning (MRP) solution. IFS Applications was chosen because it provides a powerful project-based solution (PBS) with the ability to control cost and schedule in real-time, enhancing Seaspan’s ability to efficiently meet customer requirements. This capability will help Seaspan deliver on the recently awarded $8 billion Federal Government shipbuilding program to build non-combat vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy.

Simulation Companies Join to Teach ECDIS

Videotel, Safebridge and MSG join forces to offer a co-ordinated learning approach to ECDIS.   Maritime training software supplier Videotel joins hands with distance learning specialists Safebridge and MSG to offer the maritime community their ECDIS training courses, now updated to follow the latest IMO STCW amendments.   Deck officers who gain an interim certification of successful foundation training from Videotel, can progress to type-specific training and final certification by attending one of the training centres located strategically around the world that form part of the MSG controlled ECDIS Training Consortium (ETC).

CAD/CAM

Scheduled for a September 2003 release, the next major revision of the 3-D product modeling software for shipbuilding and offshore platforms from Albacore Research Ltd., ShipConstructor2004, will include a full Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning module (HVAC). HVAC is a fully integrated member of the ShipConstructor suite of Structure, Automatic and Manual Nest, NC Code generation, Outfit, Pipe, Fairing, and Lofting tools. To facilitate automatic report generation, HVAC makes full use of ShipConstructor's SQL Server product database. As with all ShipConstructor modules, HVAC is a full 3-D modeling package; this reduces drafting errors and time-to-production. With ShipConstructor, HVAC ducts are full-featured AutoCAD entities.

June 11, 2004 was a very big day for the advancement of maritime training as the Pacific Maritime Institute (PMI) introduced its full mission simulator in a new 15,000 sq. ft. building in Seattle, Wash. Gregg Trunnell, PMI's director set the tone for the day when he said during dedication remarks, "Oceangoing vessels are not simple pieces of equipment and the days of cabin boys and shanghaied crew members are over. Trunnell also noted that maritime schools are few and far between and often students had to travel to a number of states to get a single certification. "With the opening of this new facility, those days are gone forever for mariners in the Pacific northwest," Trunnell noted.

Taiyo Nippon Kisen Selects BASSware Suite

Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co., Ltd. has again selected BASS, maritime software to be its software supplier. Taiyo Nippon Kisen purchased planned maintenance system (Star IPS) and safety and incident reporting solution (SAFIR 4.0) to complement its existing systems. Taiyo Nippon Kisen. has purchased the complete integrated office-vessel BASSware solutions. The earlier purchase took place in the beginning of 2001. Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co., Ltd. has committed to install Star IPS and SAFIR in the office and onboard 62 vessels under its management. The planned maintenance software will enable Taiyo Nippon Kisen. to manage onboard maintenance and spare parts effectively. BASS will populate all PMS-related data in order for Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co., Ltd.

Many companies can claim to be global, but Autoship Systems Corporation (ASC) of Vancouver, Canada talks the talk and walks the walk. ASC has been in the business of CAD/CAM software development for nearly 25 years. A core tenant of ASC has been to establish itself as leader in innovation, helping to ensure that as shipbuilding techniques evolved, the industry could rely on its CAD/CAM software to meet new design and construction needs. BASS and NTC-M Partner Up

In sync with their objective of “training seafarers using quality software”, BASS and the Norwegian Training Center (NTC-M) in Manila have agreed to establish hands-on training experience for seafarers as the industry moves towards adopting ICT (Information and Communications Technology). BASS will contribute by installing their integrated shipboard applications in a simulated environment in NTC-M while the training center will conduct training based upon actual operation between ship and office. On-Line Tool Launched for Tanker Industry

A leading software supplier to the shipping industry said on Friday it had launched a new internet-based tool for the chartering and operation of tankers. It said the system had been developed with support from three U.S. ship brokerages: Dietze, McQuilling and Weber. Strategic Software, which acquired its closest competitor Dataworks in May, has long dominated the shipping sector. In the last two years it has come under increasing pressure from internet start-ups keen on taking a slice of the $120 billion per year maritime freight industry. The system is likely to compete with the online services of London's Baltic Exchange, which will be launched next Monday. To some extent it also competes with LSX-2, a product being developed for online ship chartering by London-based Levelseas.

Visma, Arena To Offer E-Commerce Software To Shippers

Norwegian software supplier Visma ASA signed an agreement of intent with Hong Kong-based Arena to deliver e-commerce solutions to the shipping industry. Arena, which has Hutchison Whampoa and Electronic Data Systems Corp. as main shareholders, has established an electronic handling system to be used by shipping firms and shipping equipment suppliers. Visma officials said the agreement with Arena included a close integration between Visma's AMOS purchase software and Arena's handling system. More than 500 shipping firms already use AMOS software to manage purchases, officials said.
